REKAP ⚾️ Cubs 4-3 Loss to the Cardinals - "Too many mistakes and not enough offense!"

Another unacceptable night for the Cubs. They were terrible offensively most of the night. Javier Assad pitched pretty well, but made two bad pitches to Paul Goldschmidt and he hit both of them out of the park.
Kap says Sonny Gray looked like Cy Young against this Cubs offense. They didn't score anything off of Gray. Finally the Cards bullpen came in and Ian Happ matched Goldschmidt with two home runs of his own.
But Kap is mad about the mental errors this team keeps making. They're making errors in the field and on the base path. There was one play where Cody Bellinger got caught off of second base. He should have been picked off but managed to evade a tag and made it to third base. But the umpire said he was out of the base path even though he barely stepped to his left. But still, the mental errors are killing this team.
For the second night in a row, the Cubs were able to score off of Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley. But for the second night in a row their attempt to tie the game was run too short.

Kap I was waiting for your rekap here is my take, Bush needs to be in AAA, Belli at 1st and PCA in center with Hoerner hitting in the 2 hole PCA leading off. your on base guys setting up your sluggers like dernier and sandburg. but the problem then is finding a bulpen solution. that could be the key to a playoff run or a last place finish because the division is loaded with talent. A closer is the key to setting up a bullpen we don't have that.... we also don't have a hitter that the other teams fear???????????

MLB writer, Jordan Bastian, who covers the Cubs wrote about Happ’s big night and thinks this might be a sign that the Cubs offense is coming to life. I concur that Happ saw Kittridge’s slider well, but do not agree at all that there are any signs of life on this roster. Take Morel for example. He made his sixth error last night and he’s being platooned at third. He’s batting .208 and would’ve been the final out of the game with two men on, except he was HBP with an 0-2 count on him. Counsell has to recognize that he’s getting zero production out of him. He’s an automatic out and was never an infielder as evidenced tonight. How long long before he’s reassigned to Iowa? Madrigal isn’t much better at the plate, but at least he can field. Wisdom isn’t the answer at third, either. He’s played that position before for the Cubs and isn’t trustworthy. Cubs are dropping like a rock and will be at .500 after tonight’s game. It isn’t just the pen that’s hurting Chicago. Lose Morel. Cubs need a bona fide third baseman. Morel, Madrigal, and Wisdom are just human stents.

Madrigal is no third baseman , he has no range and needs a running start to throw to 1st. Chapman was available all off season and they decided not to spend , even Candelario was too expensive for this cheapass organization. If you think Madrigal is a viable 3rd. baseman on a team hoping to make the playoffs you're accepting failure . They have a AAA catcher with bad mechanics and no bat and they refuse to upgrade the position , the kid at 1st. can't hit either but one hot week in April made him a lock there . The Cubs owner is dead set against spending to put a winner on the field and the fans still fill the stands and enjoy their little sing alongs , win or lose . Why change anything when it's working so well for Mr.Cheapass RICKETTS.

Can we finally admit that: 1) Craig Counsell is nothing special - this team is not fundamentally sound, they have regressed from the rossy days, 2) That the Ricketts family and their artificial budgets, have handcuffed Jed so we end up with a bunch of nice players but no one that scares an opponent. They are not serious about winning another World Series even though they are earning plenty and the franchise value is through the roof. Something changed with Tom, maybe his dad wanted his money back, who knows but he's not trying anymore. If you grew going to be the most expensive baseball experience in MLB you should put a much better product on the field.

Last week when I said the Cubs was going to lose to SL, I was called a 2015 Cubs fan. Well how did the weekend turn out? Just like I said. I knew it was going to happen and now they are here in Milwaukee. I will be surprised if they split the series. I hope they wake the hell up and take 3 out 4. That would shut Milwaukee the hell up. The truth: even if the cubs were all healthy, this team was a 500 club. Nothing more. They don’t have the weapons offensively. The overall pitching is suspect, if they did get into the playoffs as a wild card, they’re going home quick. It just kills me to watch these players strike out…hitting.180-.210…not much power….bullpen is so scary. I’d rather watch a coat of paint dry on the wall.

I was called negative, miserable by some of these "optimistic" cubs fans for wanting change to this team and see the writing on the wall with this team no matter how early it is. I think we as realistic fans and honest fans see this team needs changes no matter how early or late it is in the season if were honest because if im manager or gm, im looking at this team and saying "there's nothing fine right now" because were struggling, were losing, something needs to fix. There's nothing positive about this team right now except like 4-5 pitchers. Lot of our players are battling under .22. And were about to be under 500. This team is 4 players away from being a world series contender. The lineup doesn't scare anyone. Morel is nothing more than a utility player. Almost 1,000 bats .234 average. Need 1st baseman. Need 3rd baseman. Need a setup pitcher. Need a closer. Give us 2 Jed Hoyer...just 2!!!! Youmight make the post season with 2. Im sorry but this front office is awful. Sure they have made some good trades but not enough to have a mediocre team year in and year out. They are going to find themselves like the white soxs. They had the potential to be great and now are one of the worst teams in baseball. The downfall can come fast. You spend a little money and the Cubs would be right there in it. If they traded for Glasnow, added some more relief and maybe Chapman to the bellinger signing and Cubs would be way ahead. They didnt and now if this downfall continues they could be sellers instead of buyers. And Jed at that point should be gone. They couldve added Lugo, Robertson hell add pieces they didnt do enough and now they look horrible. Cubs just arent that good. Fire front office.
