Here is something that's occurred to me through all my watching therapy videos, watching some love coaches, and reading relationship books. Most of us have no idea what we are doing and go into love blind hoping it works out. I would have been the worst boyfriend. Insecure, people pleaser, conflict avoident, resentful, and angery (and those are just the ones I know). We treat dating and relationships like a social, biological, chemistry experiment. With a sprinkling of astrology, fate, and destiny. Which results in some people finding a good person. Other people just settle. While some find themselves in a very dire situation. My point is this, romantic love is great. When you're in a healthy relationship and with the right person. But, you need to figure out what that means for you. Stop loving love, the idea of love, or the idea of marriage and family. You are trying to find another person to love. Not an idea or role you believe that person can fill. When you approach relationships that way, you're just looking for someone to change. Focus on loving yourself first and then focus on finding someone to share life's journey with. But, do so because that person feels like they bring something into your life. Not out of fear, you're missing out. Or some socially constructed obligation. You're not incomplete or broken, just because you haven't found your person. Far better to be happy alone than miserable together.

Interesting tie to the film. The book is great too. As always I enjoyed your viewpoint. Still fresh and genuine. No matter how old you are there is still something in you that will let you love. Unconditional love. If you don’t try, you will not experience. And always look in the bright side of life.

Love hurts in the most wonderful and unexpected ways. Sometimes it lasts, sometimes not, but the experience of being loved and loving is like breathing -- we have to.

the guy I'm seeing seems to have that same mindset. I don't know how he does it. I was so ready to close myself off after how my previous relationship ended. He's been through worse and somehow still remains open to romantic love

@Muhluri Congratulations on finding someone. Hard as it is, you just have to remember not to project past people's mistakes on to your expectations of others. Especially people you've just met. Set up boundaries, yes, but try to leave past baggage at the door.

Love and relationships come in a spectrum of manifestation that songwriters and authors have written about for thousands of years and millenniums before they even had a language to express these emotions. From Shakespeare love sonnets to Love is a battlefield the dissertation about love tends to display a lot of conflicting emotions. But I feel the the most satisfying relationships are the simple everyday wanting to be with each other, not expecting any more or any less. I may have gone off topic. I agree having or leaving relationships can be traumatic but we can bring new knowledge and wisdom to each subsequent relationship. Stay well. 👍🙏😘😎

Wow, you're one profound 'hunk' The most powerful lover I had needed to break up. I created a song in which the words are "If you love with all your heart and set free with all your soul you will find the light within you that will make you whole.
