This is the best sawmill for me! Efficient, practical, time and effort-saving. Operating a sawmill like this is a real big deal. I salute the owner and operator of this sawmill. You’re indeed a rare breed!

great video. I like watching the de-barker as much or possibly more than I do the sawing.

I’m going to try to get more on here!!! I just have no idea how well it will do or not:) Bit I think an hour format de barker video is necessary

I never thought about a debarker and log meshing together like gears but they work effectively together. Thanks for the video, really beautiful lumber from the log near the 50 minute mark!

You should name the debarker, Chewbacca, the disintegrator.

Chewbacca it is!! I love it😂

Hey Ian, enjoyed the video as always. I know I’m probably by myself, but I do like it when you explain what you’re cutting and what dimensions the wood is bring cut into.

Yes!! So I took a hint from a fellow KZbinr! He said leave some questions un answered, and answer them when people ask in the comments! So I can increase KZbin traffic;) I was going for 12” blocks, and ripping 1x12’s as the primary out of the big logs!

Owesome job buddy, thank you for the video , man that debarker doesn't look much but its impressive
@Helmsburgsawmill2 ай бұрын
It sure gets the job done!! It’s so fun to run too:)

If the debarker operator would slow the feedrate down, there would be no need for a costly and time-consuming second pass. In addition, it would also reduce wear on the machine and extend the duration between its maintenance requirements. 🤔 👍

John ask: Ian, do you do the debarking, or do you have a debarker man. Sometimes, do you think that the debarker man digs too deep into the logs?
@Helmsburgsawmill24 күн бұрын
My dad is the de-barker man! And the de-barker is more than capable of digging too deep. It may not seem like it on camera, but it’s kind of finicky to run. Especially with all its kinks😂
@CarnivoreCurin24 күн бұрын
John said: Yeah, the camera might be discorting the view. Is your dad the owner of the sawmill? I wish I owned mine until it breaks down. Then I am glad that it belongs to someone else.

What’s the purpose of debarking, are you trying to get a better live edge or is it simply to remove dirt, rocks and whatever before it gets to the saw blade? Also, do you use a metal detector before working the logs?
@Helmsburgsawmill2 ай бұрын
Yes it’s because the bark holds dirt and gravel! And every once in a while we’ll use a metal detector. They have massive ones you can run logs through, but those are very expensive😳

They’re swept out of the building with a barn sweep. And blowers are hooked up right below the head saw and edgers. They blow it out of the building into a funnel that send it into a bin
