i found out i had cancer around the same time colleen found out she was pregnant, and i remember telling myself "well i'll be fine by christmas" because that was the only way i felt like i could cope. sometimes that works out (i'm in remission! and found out the day colleen released the birth video!) but along the way there were hurdles and every time it felt like treatment would go longer, i crumbled. it's so so difficult. i definitely understand our brains need to believe in something bearable.

Ask for an itemized receipt for your NICU stay/hospital bills. They may charge you $60 for a freaking band aid. It’s ridiculous. Get the itemized receipt, call the hospital, and be like “uhh okay.. so I understand that I have to pay this, but I think it’s ridiculous that (item) costs so much. Is there any way that this bill could be lowered so I can pay it all?” And they’ll likely come back with a more reasonable price. Also, if the bills are like $10k and you could pay them like $7k up front, offer them that and they may just take it for the full amount. There’s ways to negotiate these hospital bills at least a little. I hope this helps someone

@@mads5522 i recognize this is such a warped mentality but as an american, so many people think why should i have to pay for other people to have babies? it was your choice to have a baby, you should pay for it. plus there are some people who abuse welfare systems that help poor people [thought definitely not as many as people think], so people think those systems would be abused and people would have babies and procedures left and right because it's paid for which is dumb but I am curious-- 1. do people abuse these systems that you guys have and how often does it happen? 2. do people who are very healthy versus not healthy have to pay the same amount to the government if these people's salaries are the same?
@drey11932 жыл бұрын
@@zarahshabs7936 I definitely can understand how some people might feel that way. I feel that way sometimes too, especially for situations that can be preventable. I have never experienced Health Care that is as privatized as it is in the US, I think that's why Canadians struggle to understand American's view on this issue since free public health care is our normal. Personally, I have never had an issue with my tax money funding the public Health Care system (although it is far from perfect). Every person in Canada is entitled to equal access to health care under our Health Care Act. I haven't made much use of our health care system but I am extremely grateful for it to ensure our people are taken care of.
@drey11932 жыл бұрын
@@zarahshabs7936 To answer your questions 1. It is difficult to abuse the health care system because everyone has "equal" access (by law, I can't actually say this is true) to health care. Some people might take it for granted, meaning they take more risks which can lead to needing medical care. 2. In Canada you are taxed depending on your income, so yes their tax money would be funding our public health care system the same. Which most people are fine with here. I am curious about your views on public vs private health care :) Hope that answers your question
@maleneolsen64532 жыл бұрын
@@zarahshabs7936 i live in Denmark, which have full health Care, School and everything like that. I remember thinking like that then I had to pay my first tax. But studies shows that over all most people are richer, happier and healthier because that. Plus most people(not like 60% but more like 90%+) will pay less in taxes, than they would pay for school, medical bills and so on if we had a system like USA😊 so it is actually cheaper😉 we help each other getting better, because we want the best for everyone. And that it is not allways your fault you end up in bad situations. Right now I am going to college, and I not only going there for free, but I’m getting payed to. So I almost can live without using my saving. That makes it easier to give attention to school and not working 10-20 hours a week. 😉

When it comes to the hospital bill, make sure you ask for an itemized bill. I once got charged $70 for a travel size of baby powder and $120 for a crappy hospital toothbrush. After calling and asking about these erroneous charges, my bill went down by $3,000. A lot of hospitals do this. They will sneak charges in for small items hoping you don't notice it, or have the sense to ask for an itemized bill. Also, they gave Erik juice because he was pale and they were trying to prevent him from fainting. The nurses are amazing, and know to keep an eye on the dad...my first husband got the juice while I was pushing, and then he got shoved into a chair immediately afterwards because his knees were starting to give out. They don't want dad to face plant on the floor and get a head Injury. And they know most men won't say a word about not feeling right because they want the focus to be on their significant other in those moments, so the nurses are always monitoring dad when he doesn't even know it.

This is the most I've seen Erik show emotion & it's absolutely beautiful You can tell he loves the hell out of Colleen. It honestly almost brings me to tears. Seeing him describe his experience with the C-section & everything is just mind blowing. I hope they last forever & their family is blessed with all the happiness in the world❤🙏🏾

the twins will probably be double that long and two babies, so scary for them to think it could be $120k if its 4 times that amount for double time and double babies.

Pediatric nurse here :) another reason why getting new babies to regulate their body temp is important is because if they get cold, their blood sugars can go down causing hypoglycemia. This is because the baby uses their glucose stores to help warm themselves up, causing glucose to decrease, thus the hypoglycemia. Praying for you both and the babies ❤

Colleen if you are producing too much milk have you check to see if your hospital has a milk bank where you can donate your milk to other mothers who can't use theirs? Just a suggestion I have heard some moms do like if they have stillborn babies but the moms still want to not waste the milk they are producing.

Colleen - when I had my son (3 weeks ago today) my milk hadn’t come in and the lactation consultant recommended he start on donor breast milk. He drank it the whole time he was in the hospital. It’s screened and pasteurized & all that good stuff. If you have too much milk to store, I’m sure there’s donor programs in LA!

Question: Since Wesley is doing better, and I think I heard you say he is "a week ahead" of Maisy, will he come home sooner than Maisy or do they usually discharge both babies at once? Do you think it will be a week sooner than Maisy cause of his progress? Whatever happens, I wish the best for you and your family!

Emergency csections happen everyday, especially for twins. I’m surprised you weren’t advise to rush to the hospital right away if your water broke. Even with a singleton, if your baby is breech and your water breaks you have to rush to the doctor right away

So, I wonder why they couldn't keep Maisey in longer? Colleen mentions how Wesley's water broke and since they are di/di twins with their own sac and placenta and everything and Maisey didn't have any water breaking, I wonder why it's not possible to take one twin out via C-section and leave the other twin in to cook a bit longer lol I know they can't do this but I do wonder why. I'm thinking the reason is because a womans body wouldn't be able to decipher that one baby is out and one baby is in, I think the body would likely start the healing process from Wes being born, and not maintain the pregnancy hormones for the twin still inside? Or the body would just go into labor to try to get the other twin out, I tried to Google it but it's such a strangely specific question that im not finding much. Obviously there is a good reason why this isn't able to be done but it's a interesting question 😂 it would be great if it was possible to get the body to understand that only one baby was born and the other baby needs some more time inside😂

Her umbilical cord prolapsed and rushed the birth because the babies would’ve run out of air and blood flow !
@hernameispekka_Rebecca2 жыл бұрын
@@RustynAB No, that was Wesleys.
@TheYoungBaker2 жыл бұрын
When you are in active labor, once one baby is out. Both babies will come out. Especially cause she had coliostasis. Recovery from two c-sections within a month would be horrendous.
@art3mis8982 жыл бұрын
You can keep a baby in longer . But Wesley had a cord prolapse and the main concern then is to make they’re both good . Also she was having contractions and stopping them wasn’t a priority . I read about this one woman who had her twins born 90 days apart but she didn’t have a cord lapse . This coming who just watches a lot of Grey’s Anatomy and did some research. But I hope this answers your question.
@Juwlz2 жыл бұрын
@@RustynAB yes, Wesley's cord and water but as Colleen says in this podcast, Maiseys water and cord were fine, Maisey wasn't in distress and had no issues but because Wesley's cord was prolapsing, they had to do the emergency C-section (in her birth story she mentions that originally, before noticing the cord prolapse, they said Wesley had enough water to keep them in for a few days, the plan prior to noticing the cord prolapse was to keep Colleen in the hospital, give her steroids to prepare the babies lungs and do the C-section in a few days. The cord prolapse changed everything but it was only Wesley's cord) My thought was that because they are di/di twins, meaning each had its own water, cord and placenta, it would be interesting to know the reason why it isn't a option to have the twin in distress birthed via C-section and then keep the other twin whose water and cord and everything is still fine, in for longer. There is clearly a reason why they can't do it, I am assuming it's more to do with how the pregnant mothers body is programmed to work, I think having one of the babies out would trigger a change in hormone levels or that the body would just automatically continue the labor process until both babies were out but I'm just saying it would be interesting if medical science could figure out a way to keep one twin in, and just do the emergency C-section on the twin in distress. This would only be applicable in pregnancies and situations like Colleens, where it's dichorionic diamniotic twins(di/di twins) because they both are completely separate, they don't share a amniotic sac or a placenta, it's essentially two babies who happen to be growing in the uterus at the same time and don't share anything but the uterus, and where one of the babies has broken their water and is in need of emergency delivery but the other baby is completely fine remaining in. I'm a medical information nerd😂 so it's just interesting to think of how they could accomplish that so only one of the twins is born premature. If I figure out the actual reason behind why this isn't possible I'll comment again lol or hopefully a NICU nurse will know
