Hey Mikey, To get the finches to go to the second floor more, you will need more foliage higher up. Maybe buy a taller tree like you did with the parrots so that you have one taller tree in the aviary. Finches typically will perch more where there is foliage cover so they have a feeling of security. As far as having some female finches. It's a good idea as all males can induce fighting. Mating is going to happen if there are females, but keeping down the number of nesting sites will help prevent nesting, which finches need to mate. You would also want to locate the nests in places that you could easily reach so you could collect eggs before they hatch. That would also help control the population. My beardies and other lizards and snakes I've owned loved eating the eggs, and sometimes the hatchlings if they didn't survive. Having baby birds isn't an issue. The issue will be how to control the population effectively. My suggestion would be to place nesting baskets, not nesting boxes, as finches prefer baskets for nesting. Small nesting baskets that aren't completely enclosed work the best. Place them in areas you can easily access the nests so you can collect the unhatched eggs regularly. Finch eggs don't take long to hatch, usually less than a week. And the mother won't usually release more eggs until after the babies have left the nest, which could be in 2 to 3 weeks, meaning that as soon as the babies or eggs are gone the mother can mate and lay more eggs. This is completely on the experience that I had with Zebra Finches for 3 years in an apartment in Edmonton. So, what I did when I had finches was I would take hatchlings to local pet stores. In fact I used to trade them for finch food as well as insects for my chameleon, snakes, breaded dragons, etc. So you can be the control for the population you have in the aviary. Another suggestion would be to get the birds you want to keep banded. You can get banding that you can put on yourself when you find specific personalities with specific finches. About letting a chameleon free in the aviary. I would be concerned about their being enough food in the enclosure for it to eat. Releasing crickets into the aviary would be one way to accomplish that, but then you're dealing with crickets running amok. Also, if you did breed finches merely by having some females, the hatchlings would also be chameleon, iguana, turtle food, as well as the unhatched eggs, in fact a very natural food for chameleons in the wild as they will consume small prey animals, mainly birds, when found. I'm happy to see small birds in the aviary. I think it's a much better environment for them. Happy New Year, Matt - Toronto, Canada

Purposely breeding them to exchange for food? Most of these innocent creatures will be born only be kept in small cages their whole lives. That is sick 😡.
@comedianmattrossey10 ай бұрын
@@nadv3054 I think you misunderstood what I meant. I wasn't breeding them to exchange for food. I was keeping a flock of them and they bred on their own. What I was doing was bringing them to the store to sell as pets and rather than the store pay me cash, we just traded birds to sell for food for my animals other than the finches as well as the finches. Considering how I was keeping them with a consistent stock of finches and I was exchanging finches from my flock with other breeders to keep healthy blood lines, it was the best solution to keeping the finches at all because the only way the finches don't breed are if they don't have a mate or if the birds have health issues or are malnourished.

💖RJ! You remind me so much of my late mother! 💖 I hope that doesn't offend you. When we lived in the Philippines (late 1960s) she loved it so much and her favorite thing was going out and bargaining. My dad said it was amazing because she could do it no matter where we lived or the language spoken. ALSO... she was an interior decorator and had he own quite successful business in our town... though she also had clients in other states and even in an American that lived in France. He specialty was making custom draperies, upholstery, bed spreads, etc. She LOVED gardening as well and my dad got a small house off base in the Philippines where my mother was able to grow beautiful plants. On Sundays we always went for a drive just to look around and many times my mom would see someone outside working in their gardens. She would have my dad stop and she'd go up and talk with them. We almost always left with cuttings or seeds they would give her. I TOO love unique plants and when I did my senior project in one of my college botany courses it was on unique plants around the world.... the strange and odd ones.

Like a page from a fairytale book! With "fairy" looking birds too!!! And yes i agree, i think it would be better if you still place more plants from the second floor up. It would be visually appealing and not a stark contrast from the lush first floor forest vibe.

The truck transporting all those plants made it look for all the world like a small forest on wheels haha. And good call on the decision to place the Golden Pheasants in the outdoor aviary as it would be better for them. After all the low-lying plants get placed in there, the final thing they'd need that doubles as environmental stimulation and for hygiene would be a sandy area where they can dustbathe. The indoor aviary actually doesn't look that tropical at all when you mention it, as some plants could serve as proxies to the ones the finches would probably see in the wild. I would also recommend some Diamond Doves in there with the finches as they are also found in Australia, as well as a species of quail for the aviary floor, with King Quail (also known as Chinese Painted Quail or Asian Blue Quail) being a good species due to their attractive appearance, although it would also need additional ground cover, such as shallow plant pots with grass or grass-like plants, and a place to dust-bathe in.

@@MikeyBustosVLOGS I believe you might be able to find Diamond Dove breeders in the country, as I have seen them several times in pet expos I have gone to. Not sure with King Quail though, but if you can't find them, Japanese Quails could work as the "ground crew" to consume any food the finches drop on the floor.

Now here in Australia, I’m keeping nanotanks with nano fishes and shrimps and into plants as well, so this is giving me all the vibes! 27:35 is epipremnum pinnatum variegata, not monstera btw. I also got nervous for a bit, I thought you were going to plant the ficus into the ground. Thank goodness it was in a pot ha. Just be careful to not get the roots go down the ground as they’re known to destroy pipes and foundations.

Mikey, 1. Roughly how tall _is_ your avery? Are your home's ceiling heights taller than a regular house which is 244cm (or 8' floor to ceiling). You can give it in whichever measurement is easier for you. I gave up decades ago & learned both imperial & metric. 2. Are all your plants going to get enough natural sunlight way down there at the bottom of the avery? Or will you perhaps need to supplement with some extra lighting during some parts of the year? When will you know for sure lik, how long will you wait before you panic buy lights? (Canadian here & THAT is what I ended up doing! LOL) 3. Are you going to start composting for your new houseplants or is that still gonna be Billy's job? 4. What was RJ's best & most favourite haggle/ deal that he made out of all those new gorgeous plants?? Thanks love you guys! *Hugs to you both from chilly, snowy Canada. 🤗💕💕 EDIT: We have giant picture windows at our cottage & tiny wild chickadees have flown directly into them & broken their necks. Using the rabbit poo is a great idea. I always kept a big compost pile. Pleased to see such large enclosures outside. The finches are lovely. I would wait a few months and then decide about breeding them. It’s a lot of work and you’ll need somewhere decent to take the overflow. There are lemons which grow in bushes and other varieties which grow in trees. The joy of the birds when you released them really touched my heart. I’d really watch the toads as they get larger …I wouldn’t put them with small birds as I’ve seen toads eat them. Watching this from Delaware and awaiting an ice storm. Wish I were there!

My goodness, I've been dreaming of such an enclosure since I was a child. In a year, when all the plants have developed, it will be a dream. I had acquired king toads as pets over thirty years ago. However, I had to give them away after a few years due to lack of space, space should not be a problem for you. But these were great pets, which became really tame after a while and ate out of my hand. They crawled with their front legs on the heels of my hands and ate the worms, slugs or whatever I was feeding, right out of my hand. When they aim at the prey, they always twitch one of their toes. They also came directly to the window when they saw me. Even though they do a lot of damage when they invade biotopes where they don't belong, as pets (especially as toads) they are really great pets with a lot of character.

😀I'm really glad you don't prefer the other solution. These animals had really won my heart back then. Although it was a coincidence, I was actually looking for another species (Bufo blombergi), which was not available in Germany at that time. So luckily I took these interesting animals with me. If it were up to me, I would have kept them. In my parents' house it was no problem to accommodate the terrarium. It wasn't until later, when I moved out, that it was no longer possible. Later, when I was studying, I wouldn't have time for the animals either. The only thing you have to pay attention to is an easy-to-clean terrarium. The animals pee really big puddles (especially if they are frightened😁). It is best to use a terrarium with a drain and very smooth stones that are easy to clean. And definitely not wood. I always had dry leaves mixed with wood chips (like the ones for guinea pigs and rabbit cages) as a substrate that I changed regularly. Nowadays, however, there are probably better solutions. A small separate water part that is easy to clean is also helpful. The animals then usually defecate in it. Otherwise, the animals are very frugal. They eat everything that fits in their mouths. Even slugs, which are slightly poisonous (that's why they don't need a shell like snails), all kinds of worms, roaches and, if they are tame, even cuts of meat that can be offered with tweezers. @@MikeyBustosVLOGS

I love the gayviary! I think you’re very smart to have only male birds - you can always add females later. They are the luckiest birds in existence. 🤣😁. I do think you should add rock to at least one level of the fountain, since the birds would be more likely to bathe in shallow water. It’s wonderful to see the parrots with so much room to fly - I think the outside aviary will be very good for them. However, if the parrots don’t miss you spending more time inside the aviary with them, I certainly do. Please let us see you spend some time and give them some treats. 🥰. As for the toads - could they move into the iguana cage once Magnus, Adam and Eve get their new palace?

Plant shopping… :) I’m a little surprise how expensive these plants are. Wow, you got a truck… bought a truck or hired a truck?, just curious. I’m super happy you got a lemon tree, I love the notion of fresh lemons (and limes). Holy cow, that’s a lot of foliage going in that aviary… it looks very jungle-like. OMG, I’m cracking up at the “Gay-viary”… I don’t know why but YMCA started playing in my head… LOL. I love it! It seems Sahara doesn’t like being left out of things, LOL. Somehow, in my silly mind, we need a disco ball and a rainbow in the gayviary… LOL. It all looks super nice in there, very lush and I know that’s what you wanted in the first place. I wonder how some LED string lights would look amidst all this foliage… like color-changing lights…they’d be hidden until you turned them on…. I will admit… as much as I really loved the parrots in the aviary, these little birds seem perfect. I can’t wait for you to get more. They look great in there. Why do the toads have to move out? Won’t there still be roaches to deal with? The funnest part of all this is you, Mikey. You’re so excited with every aspect of this whole thing, it’s awesome! We can all take a lesson in this to milk every moment of life as we are living it. This was fun, thank very much for sharing all this. I’m excited to see all the changes and, this is great!! Ya’ll be safe and I’ll see ‘ya next time.

Dapat talagang lagyan mo ng mga matatangkad na tanim ang inyong outside Aviary para Hindi maiinitan ang mga ibon sa kanilang bagong tahanan👍👍

You can make natural looking, tall, wood play stations made of branches in the outdoor aviary. They have a wood platform with wheels so you can move them around and change up the birds environment to provide enrichment. They would be good places for hanging toys; feeding bowls; foot toys; foraging toys... put in flats of grass for them to pick at. The indoor aviary is already looking gorgeous. It will look amazing as you go. Finches do like to to forage on the ground looking for see and little insects... so that is cool. Do you think the guys that did your wire screen work at the top of the aviary... could add little access doors where you could reach in to add and change around things such as some perches, some feeding spots, etc.? The the birds wouldn't always be clinging to the wire and it would add to the natural look.

I heard plants are cheaper in Cavite. Why not plant fruit dwarf bearing trees i.e. calamansi, lemons..in your farm? Beautiful Aviary in progress! Your dogs are amazed with the birds as well.
