Heh, the fine print on the side of the saucer says "USS Antares"
@CaptRobertApril4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's a puzzler. Window misalignment is understandable, but how do you put the wrong name on the thing, when every other marking has the right one? They've really gotta get a hold of some quality control standards....

only thing, I prefer the torpedo-pod like the actuall Miranda had, or something more integrated into the ships body. But still, its a nice looking alternative. 10:32 lol it actually says USS Antares on the side ;D

I'd always heard that this design was NOT *rejected* -just that Harve Bennett had signed off on the design upside down (signature upside down on the drawing) and the model makers went with that over bothering Bennett again. Mistake/oversight -not rejected. I've seen this said in clips as well as articles such as this one: forgottentrek.com/designing-the-reliant/ A similar error occurred with John Eaves’ original sketch of Ru’afo’s Son’a ship which was drawn with the forks pointed forward ..like Ferengi Marauders.. but the model makers misunderstood his sketch and the ships fly backwards.

I was about to comment this as well.. there was an entire 'Star Trek: The Magazine's dedicated to the special edition of ST:II that goes through and says exactly this.

Maybe it’s time the concept artists start putting arrows on their drawings. 😆
@CaptRobertApril4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure "rejected" is the right term. Harve Bennett did approve it, but he was looking at it upside down, as evidenced by his upside down signature, so somewhere in the process, either they confirmed with Bennett that he preferred the nacelles below or they just went with it reversed.

"From hell's heart, I stab at thee, for hate sake, I spit my last breath at thee!" Ahab, Moby Dick, or Khan, Star Trek 2. But I do pronounce FASA the same as you. That's correct.
@weirdkitty074 жыл бұрын
Head canon figuring the Avenger class was meant for destroyer escort classes, and Miranda was more the scout class civilian midrange cruiser class. Same type, but one with more guns. By TNG period though the variants were all just based on scout classes as they were in relative peacetime.
@Wimpoman4 жыл бұрын
I'd go along with that.

"USS Antares"... I caught that too! But where's the forward facing "deflector dish array"..?
@zzeegermantube4 жыл бұрын
Magnetic stands would solve the issue. Put a small magnet inside the ship and then you could have a simple rod/bar with a magnet on top of which you plant the ship.
@richardlewis54274 жыл бұрын
This design would be a good workhorse design. Swap the two under slung torpedo launchers out for cargo pods about the length of the nacelles and you have a good transport ship similar to designs developed for the Kobayashi Maru. Put on some sensor pods and you have a great science / listening post ship. Pop the torpedo launchers back on and you have a hardy patrol/ combat vessel. Seems like such a multi role ship design would be great to have during the height of a "cold war" era with the Klingons.....

The version they used could blast the side of the Enterprise, this one couldn't.

The top nacelle design looks faster, I like it better.....Maybe the Kelvin Movies used that concept for the Intrepid half saucer section ships.... Starting back to the ENT Era / NY Intrepid Class looks like similar aesthetic. Think how weird the bottom nacelle Reliant would look if they used the first concept in the movie. They used to put a notch hole on the bottom section the stand would snug into with a top notch. I liked that better, they could have just added a small notch plug to attach in the bracket hole when off the stand, but those would be very easy to lose.....

Flip the pylons around so the warp engines are on bottom and photons on top and I think it would look even better.

I appreciate the Miranda variants a whole bunch, what with their modularity and versatility in canon, but dang, this is the only Miranda variant that looks (to me) like it has anything resembling a modicum of attitude. Those high-slung nacelles.. mm.. yes please! Hope this shows up in STO some time. Nice thing is, this variant looks like it could still mount a roll-bar up top for a 3rd torpedo pod if you wanted a variant specifically for tactical engagements.
@adamlytle26154 жыл бұрын
6:30 - what is that note on the bit that is on the top center of the diagram of the pod? The bit on the top that matches the two things on either side of the saucer. I kinda assume they are access ports, but some people say they are part of a deflector system.

I think there could've been something like this that Starfleet may have had a variant like this. Maybe because of the Antares error on this model, we can call it the 'Antares Type' lmao
@bjvincent87864 жыл бұрын
I personally love the model and really love the design. With the final version seen on screen they designed a much superior ship to the Enterprise without meaning too. While it is too bad it could not have seen original concept used in other movies or the TNG and/or DS9 series.

The RED shirt of Star ships.
@larqven01924 жыл бұрын
It does look pretty cool. The producers might have been concerned about having a cooler looking antagonist ship than the hero ship? I would argue that the ship looks TOO aggressive for a Federation ship. Clearly it carries a lot of fire power and would live up to being an Avenger Class. Hmn? I notice that it says "Antares' a few places on the ship. The original name? "The Antares...a ship of the new Avenger Class!". That would be very alliterative. It ALSO looks almost 'Romulan' with the central hull and top nacelles as 'wings' and the bottom weapons modules as 'claws'. There does seem to be some thematic issues with being overly aggressive and Romulan seeming in the configuration. The registry number also seems a callback to the original series suggesting that the Reliant was also a major refit.
@kennethsumida52643 жыл бұрын
this ship seams right on the dot. the other one, needs to have the bridge moved to the forward rim. and klingon markings instead of federation.
@brettcooper38934 жыл бұрын
The moviegoers getting confused is a legit point, if you think about it. They have to assume they're making these for the lowest common denominator.
@adamlytle26154 жыл бұрын
Also, better to plan for every contingency. If the ships are far away from certain angles they would look pretty similar.
@watcherzero52564 жыл бұрын
9:54 isnt that a paint alignment issue? The yellow is way outside the red box. Is the same on the opposite side but not nearly as bad, the rest of the model the paint job looks fine though.

The lack of a deflector dish on these ships still bothers me. I like the pods, stick them on top of a normal miranda and it would look cool, but not a fan of the nacelles on top like this.
