True story - I went to UGA in the late 80s / early 90s; saw Michael and the boys a fair amount. REM still had a little office downtown - this was before email - so I wrote them a letter asking if they could send me back lyrics to a few specific songs (I, like half of the town, was an aspiring guitar player / singer) so I could practice / cover them. They actually wrote back - and said ‘Michael makes up most of the lyrics on the spot when they play so your best bet is to do the same’. 😆
