I love these re-makes of older tune videos. Sure sound design is fun but there is nothing more nostalgic than taking the production approach of writing with mostly, if not all, using just samples. This video also shows you how you can use the exact same samples/breaks and come up with a slightly different result even when trying to sound as close as possible. I wonder who else has flipped this portion of sampled bass into a song noteworthy song?

Nice video! Bacteria was a huge track back in the late 90’s I always remember grabbing this from hard to find records and thinking how different it was it certainly pushed the scenes boundaries, it will always be one of those tracks that push the genre. I used to drop this in regular sets up & down the UK and was always in the record bag! Big tune will always stand the test of time also Bacteria was the B side Gas Mask was the A side 🤷🏻‍♂️

Less 'feedback' on the flanger will change up the harmonic content on the sweep worlds, less depth on the phaser will add more fat harmonics on the sweeps,, made this bass years ago with an EMU e6400 and a bunch of rack modules, the z-plane filter modes help a lot with the BP sweeps, pretty nice job emulating it in Live.

@Burnt Herb Mackie desk distortion, I used the old 32x8 buss desk back then, same thing boymerang used to make the 'boymerang' break (He also used a Sony DAT, a Roland JV1080, a boss drum machine and an EMU E4XT Ultra, as well), you 'direct out' from one channel into another and shape not only the gain output stage, but the eq as well, you can keep jumping channels on the board itself and then buss it back into the sampler and resample it to really ring out more harmonics created by the z-plane filters, then you can continue to add more noise and filter pass layers and so on until you have something interesting, there's been a lot of 'gate keeping' on the precise method of this over the years on the forums that I've seen, but it's a pretty sure fire way to get a lot of those really nasty ripping lead bass sounds a lot of the early tech step guys were known for, it's really quite simple once you understand how it works, much of this however can be done with modern DAWs, however, the old AKAI / EMU analog inputs really could roast the shit out of anything fed into em and really added a lot of color and character to anything fed through them.

if anyone wants some more context for that emu+mackie combo, here's a video from fracture and neptune showing it off kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5nIiWevp7SCh6s and here's one specifically on the "direct out" distortion thing (it's for making gabber kicks, but same idea) kzbin.info/www/bejne/j37ReZyLo69jg8U btw, if you want more "mixer preamp-y" distortion than just serumfx or an ableton saturator, i find Airwindows BussColors4 works really well. its open source, too! www.airwindows.com/busscolors-4/
@angelfalls9418
@angelfalls9418 2 жыл бұрын
@infoslinger it's pretty clear what they're doing: filter, distort, eq, resample, repeat. same tech people have been using for 20 years. you can prove this yourself with the right distortion (like busscolors). how exactly you configure the filters is up to you (as long as you have some sort of morph weirdness going on). obvs there are other fx being used at points but the principle is always the same

The boymerang break was made with an Emu e4 sampler, the rides were from the Roland iv 1080, a boss drum machine, a Sony dat and a mackie 32x8 console,he started by sampling the original amen break at it's original tempo into the emu sampler, from there he chopped the break in midi including every flam and noise from the original, he then replaced every drum sound from the amen break with bits from the Boss, the JV and the emu while resampling the break back into the sampler each time with a different level of gain as well as a different layer of noise along with the desk gain until he got a break that didn't sound like anything else he had ever heard before, he then resampled it one last time at a more dnb bpm and spit the break out, he first left a few bars of the break for people to steal on soul beat runna, but if you or anyone want the original break in its entirety with all of the crashes as well, he left it clean towards the end of the boymerang remix of the krs one and goldie track, 'Digital', I've used that for years and it is the cleanest full example of the break you will find, also a killer 2x12 framed and hanging in the wall of my own studio, respect. 🎧🎶
