Was amazed by this horse's 2 year old performances and could not imagine him not winning everything at 3. His failure in the 2000 Guineas sent me looking for an alternative winner of the Derby. Bur every other contender had flaws, so I waited until the parade at Epsom. City of Troy was the outstanding presence, head and shoulders above the rest. Watching him stand there, like a professional athlete in the locker room, as his trainer stretched the horse's forelegs one by one, I felt sure he was back to his best. Aidan O'Brien had given the horse back his mojo.

The fact that the loose horse easily outran the field says more about the impact of the riders than it does about the actual talent of the horses. It's a rare occasion for a loose horse to cross the finish line first in thoroughbred races.
@SherifIsmail-fd2bw8 ай бұрын
That loose was in front for a really long time really strange and was loose from the start to boot. Interesting to see if that happens a lot more at Epsom, but it was unique nevertheless, perhaps he was setting such a pace that they didn't need to go past but then again he was up there as well at racing speed. I have never seen that before in Flat racing, you would never ever see that in a Guineas for instance.
@SherifIsmail-fd2bw8 ай бұрын
It's possible that loose one is very good or just remembers where the stables are after the last time he was there recently on the breakfast with the stars gallop, but he went flying around that corner way after the finishing line. It was really funny the way he disappeared on his own. Usually horses as herd animals wait for each other.

Given that bloodline to weaken that early in the 2000 guineas was a shocker. Mind u Ryan Moore did not work on him as he continued to weaken in the 2000 guineas run. This will probably turn out to be the worst Derby of all time it didn't look a strong race the proof is they were a bunch of non stayers but we will wait till the rains come out

Hmmmmm..... City of Troy does not look like a champion to me... good but not great, I'd say. Travelled well, but didn't fly. The riderless horse did well though. Shows the horses love it. One on the eye for the race saboteurs.

He just won the Derby. 😂😂😂 he is a great horse..try table-tennis mate😂😂😂

@@michaelmoynihan9591 I love people who think every Derby winner is a "great horse". Like, say, Harzand, Wings of Eagles, Masar, Anthony Van Dyke, Sadayar, perhaps? Let's see how City of Troy does on firmer ground, with luck we'll see some real turn of foot then, and can upgrade the evaluation.

It was such a bad training performance by Aidan for the Guineas, he messed up two years on the trot
@SherifIsmail-fd2bw8 ай бұрын
City of Troy ran really well and Coolmore camp knew he was going to come around Tattenham corner flying with his feet going forward, but if he was 'Pegasus' he should have got past the loose horse doing 3/4 speed canter. Sea the Stars would have and Desert Crown would have been getting upsides. Very good Derby, but not a Vintage one.
@JohnDoe-il7dp8 ай бұрын
The loose horse was irrelevant. Jockeys don't ride to beat loose horses.
@SherifIsmail-fd2bw8 ай бұрын
Its irrelevant in our context but the best horses are trained to race and get to the front and nice ones like to be in front, look regardless of the jockey good ones will just take you there. It would have looked nicer because its the Derby and for media purposes that he overtake that loose horse, and Ryan himself would of. Unsung hero of the race was Declan Mcdonagh who rode an outstanding race on Euphoria came out set a good pace, rounded Tattenham well and got beautifully out of the way for City of Troy to overtake. It was a piece of art Coolmores tactics and looks good when it comes off. I'm partial to the loose horse I bet him E/W and nothing else. I think he is very good.

I'm glad COT won but this was a poor Derby, COT was wilting and they still couldn't close on him. He may just be better at 1m-1m2f,

@@captain007xhard to pull up? Is that why he was veering left n right and losing his legs? Jockey done brilliant to get him to win but he's a miler. Poor Derby son.

The derby now is a poor race in world terms. There hasn't been a decent winner since See the stars.

There has been a few poor winners mostly from Ballydoyle. Sea the Stars best horse I have seen. If he represents your value of a decent horse you set very very high standard.
