If there was anyone whose voice was also enormous, it was George Michael's! However, nobody can stand in Freddy's footsteps, but George was the best choice to perform this song. It is such a shame we lost both George and Freddy. They were so good!!! Oh, and this song... it is so full of rythm, it's like a heartbeat! Absolutely great! I loved this song in the 70's and I still love it now! Timeless!

Freddie always said that the finest voice in British music belonged to George. They admired one anoter greatly and the band so appreciated this performance. The joy on their faces was palpable. In George Michaels documentary I’ve learned that during this performance, George knew his partner had aids and would die of it. He sung this song for him. Knowing that makes this performance even more chilling and powerful!

No one knew his partner had AIDS, but George said in the interview he had only found out days earlier Alsemo was dying, and he angry, which was why his performance was so powerful. Just saw a documentary about GM last night. He said he showed up 5 days early and practiced it over and over. Most if not all of the other artists showed up for an afternoon of practice. George was intent on making it the best he could.

As far as I know, the only cover sang in the original key, meaning George was the beast we thought he was. An amazing man paying tribute to another amazing man. Sadly we’ve had to bid farewell to them both. The older I get, the more we lose. I wish I could go back and see them live one last time.
