The cars were built with two different philosophies of use. The Charger is built to be a sporty badass that tries to keep up in a high speed pursuit. The P71 is like Jason from Friday The 13th. No matter how fast and hard you run, it will eventually catch up with you. Well, at least it's radio, the helicopter and all of it's friends that it summons will. :)

Wow. Putting up an SRT8 against a stock P71. That's real fair. The charger may have gotten 2 or 3 car links ahead of the Vic but it wasn't getting away. That heavy Vic is by no means a sports car it by no means has the biggest V8 but for what the Crown Vic is it can hold its own. Law enforcement used Vics for years for a reason.

The Crown Victoria police interceptor will hold up better. The Hemi is faster but it does not have a full steel frame like the p71 interceptors. Start hitting shit and you will see which one will fold up. Drive them both foot to the floor from Florida to West Virginia. That dodge will burn up. State patrols have packages installed if they are running the dodge. The P71 is just built more solid even in civilian form. Also swap out the 4.6 for the 2014 5.0 coyote V8. then see what it do

The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. Call me a Redneck or a HillBilly but my truck will outlast anything you see on the road today and plus my truck looks better than anything you see on the road today as well.

I don't think a Crown Vic would even beat a Charger R/T. I own a '06 300C with the 5.7L hemi. My car is stock and I was able to pull on a G35 coupe from start to finish. I will be doing some work to it soon, such as CAI, Catback exhaust, maybe some headers, and a tune. I want to make it just as quick as the SRT8, if not quicker.

No doubt the charger has more power but I'd still argue a 100k cop car especially one with lots of hours is near the top of worn out maintenance items. The coil packs, oxygen sensors, maf, a worn out fuel pump from 1000s hours, transmission definitely worn out on a patrol car. The gear ratios are different that's why the charger was slow to start I believe its a 2.80 vs the 3.27/3.55 in a vic

Thats why they went with the Hemi Charger, Ford Crown Vic was ok in the day, but today theres alot of fast cars on the road and also with a higher M.P.H. top end, something the crown Victorian could keep up with the newer competition.

Ok. Former Ford tech and current Dodge tech here.. the only similarities between these two cars is Rwd, 4 doors, and a v8. Similarities begin to end there. The p71 does have a trans cooler and dual radiators and a basic "interceptor" tune along with a decent traklock rear end (which is why it hopped off the line faster) along with extra ground clearance. So the p71 is definitely a car to handle major abuse and then be easily fixed. It is not, however, a fast car. The Charger is far more powerful if it is running the 6.1 or larger so it had better win but when you break it the repairs are not as easy and you can't abuse it nearly as much. Both of these cars are cake, they're just different kinds of cake. And sometimes the cake is a lie.

BigOxx Auto No... 6.1 is 175 more crank horse than the 4.6. its not uncommon to see first gen srt8s going high 12s low 13s bone stock... P71s on a GOOD day with proper gearing and bolt ons MIGHT see low 15s. Its bus lengths difference. Even Marauders with FBO's don't hang with stock srt8s.....

When you're in a high speed chase they are not usually driving bumper to bumper. Rather in visual range with enough room to react and reliability to maintain the chase. Crown vic's (body on full frame) have been staying into service 200,000 to 300,00 miles after being discontinued. If chargers (uni-body) were such a viable also option this would not be happening.

JT P The Srt8 Charger has enough power to break traction down shifting into 1st gear. It makes 425hp @ 4,100lbs. The Crown Vic doesnt have enough power to lose traction downshifting into 1st it only makes 250hp at 3,900lbs. Unless theres lots of sand, gravel, shit, or water on the road.(wet pavement)

Interesting video to say the least. I think it would’ve been a better comparison to use a Charger with a 5.7. Most Chargers that are used as Patrol Units have the 5.7 in them, but there probably are some out there with the SRT8 engines in them. Most likely an agency with a little more capital to work with for equipment. Years ago the Dooley County, Ga, was running unmarked Impala SS units on the road, obviously more costly than the 9C1 Caprices. So right there is a Agency that isn’t shy about stepping up the class of Patrol Cars they use. It would be cool to have the SRT8 go up against a 32 valve 4.6 Marauder, but I’ve never know a P71 Crown Vic to be equipped with one of those engines. Good Day Everyone!

The only reason the Vic had the launch is because it's so underpowered you can just mash the throttle and go without wheel spin. Getting that older gen srt8 off the line correctly isn't easy.

love the charger, never been a ford fan. but im thinking about buying a 2011 police crown vic. back in the 70s i owned dodge police cars, 1978 furys 440 engines. took a while for them to wind out but these days i like to keep my license

Crown Vic is basically like a truck (it's a body bolted to a frame) - which is heavy and not very sporty. But it's solid and rigid as hell (and a hell more reliable than SRT8). It's silly to compare the 2.

yeah I'd like to know what works been done under the hood of that charger we know the Crown Vic comes with a special package for being a police interceptor however it be real interesting to find out what exactly has been done to that charger and that's something we'll never know

I thought MAYBE the vic would get the jump on the charger at 30 because flooring it at that speed drops right into first gear and the car just hauls. A 40 mph run, the vic has no chance because it's stuck in 2ND gear.

The Charger is faster (both are fast) but the speed difference is without meaning in practical police enforcement terms. In EVERY other measure of a police vehicle, the CV is better (including actually holding arrestees!) I have noticed that the younger officers like the Charger, I think, to satisfy adolescent longings more than hard-nosed police work.

i feel like if this were to be fair, the crown vic would probably need a new cam shaft, new spark plugs, fresh oil and ATF and of course some other things for a good tune up. even still i feel like the charger would win. but that's all expensive stuff right there so Rematch part 3?

You're blowing smoke out your ass ! I've driven both cars and as I said there isn't any Crown Vic that'll outrun a Charger or Chevy's PPV. A Crown Vic won't outlast a Charger either, I've been there and driven both cars . What's happening here is a couple of frustrated Crown Vic fans are talking total trash because the Crown Vics have been sent to the junkyard and what FoMoCo has replaced the Crown Vics with sucks ( basically a Taurus reborn or a cheap rollover hazard SUV ) ! Don't twist the facts just because Ford dropped the ball then Dodge hit a homerun, and Chevy offers a good PPV and a bigger SUV also. Sorry dude but I've been there and done that. BTW Fords new "EcoBoost" just doesn't even begin to match the Dodge 5.7 liter HEMI and Chevy PPV's !!

Not stock no, the vics only pushing 250 hp while the charger is around 425 and weighs less, now supercharge the crown vic and upgrade the exhaust and such it would beat it but the charger would still be stock and thats like 5 grand in mods just to beat a stock charger.

We are replacing the Crown Vics with Chargers and Explorers and I can tell you that the Chargers are in the shop far more then the Explorers or Crown Vics. We have some Chargers with the 3.6 L engines and every car has had multiple engine repairs while still under warranty.

The crown vic wasn't really made for top end speed. It was made more for durability, and catching cars within city blocks. As far as blowing your car away in a top speed run it will never happen.

What fool out there ever thought a Crown Vic would be in the same league as an SRT Charger? It is competition for an RT, maybe... I own a 2008 and it's an amazing machine. Best bang for your buck. Got mine for under $14k and under 100k miles.

I stopped the video at 1:07. How in the hell is a Vic going to race a SRT-8 Charger? A 3.5 V6 Charger would probably spank that ass. I beat the shit out of my nephew's 03 VCC with my 2016 F165. He thought because it was a cop car. It had balls.

Do you know that no good Ford guy ever leaves his vehicle stock so here's a few tips if anyone's interested from a certified Ford mechanic install 410 gears in the rear and make sure there is a good transmission cooler installed make sure you have installed or have planned to install the same let me repeat that the same parts that you can install on the mustang 4.6 L on your crown Vic 4.6 L that includes stainless steel Shorty headers some type of hush power Flowmaster muffler you do not want loud exhaust you want to slight rumble but no loud exhaust a quality intake manifold upgrade intake elbow and cold air kit change out the camp followers to the ones sold by American muscle they're better and lighter change the cams you want to use a Ford racing style cam or cam sets then you want a good quality SCT tuner and have it custom tune to buy Bama performance make sure you upgrade your breaks a good slotted set of brake rotors and ceramic high temperature pads then put some NItto Invo tires on it. Now enjoy your Dodge stomping Crown Victoria with the smaller displacement 4.6L 281ci.... if your engine is not savable find a 2005 to 2009 or preferably the 2010 model Mustang GT and swap the three valve an automatic transmission and the engine and trans wiring harness is into the Crown Vic and hang on

Yes, the charger is faster. However, that DOES NOT make it better suited for police duty. The police during a pursuit normally just have to "keep up" and wait for the offender to make a mistake. Since the person bei g chased likely doesnt care about the car their in, that pursuit may go over numerous curbs, through fields, rutted dirt roads, and god knows what else. The vic can handle that type of stuff better then any passenger car (and most suvs /pickups) built in the last 30 years. Not to mention, the crown vic isnt exactly a slouch by anymeans, and handles very well considering what it is.
