My teenage friends and me were waiting outside Angels Stadium around 1970 for players to come out to get their autographs. Jim, who was associated with KMPC at the time (they did Angel games) came out and we immediately recognized him from the Dating Game. We asked him for his autograph...he couldn't be nicer to us. He talked to us like we were human beings; asked us if we had a ride home, etc. I still have his signature in my autograph book. He was just SO nice to us, have never forgot that moment. RIP Jim

I enjoyed listening to him on KABL as a teenager in the late 90's though the early 2000's. He was also great host on "Name That Tune" as well. His older stuff was before my time.

I know I'm late with this, but I got a new appreciation for the guy that Bill Cullen must have been when I saw him on a rerun when he was a part of a celebrity panel on "TattleTales". It was really apparent that he knew his wife backwards and forwards, and there was an affection that his spouse and Bill had for one other that you could perceive through the lens, even retrospectively - Truly heartwarming.

So many greats have left us.. makes me sad. It would be so cool to be able to sit with a former host and get the neatest stories about the shows they've done and the celebrities they've met.

I really do remember this game show was called $100,000: Chance of a Lifetime was started in 1985 to 1986 and lasted a very short lived one season in first run syndication and aired over 100 episodes. Mr. Jim Lange was a very great game show host and did Bullseye from 1979 to 1982 that his old game show did avoid itself from getting struck by lightning was from the old days after successfully ran for 3 years on the air and later went on and hosted Name That Tune (1983-84).

Actually, the $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime lasted two seasons. Lange added a co-host for the second year, Karen Thomas, who if it's the same person years later became a meteorologist.

I read Chuck Barris's book, "The Game Show King", 20 years ago after I saw a bunch of copies of it for sale in a Dollar General-type store (it wasn't Dollar General -- we didn't have one of their stores -- but a similar chain) in my hometown one day and picked up a copy on a whim. He tells the story of the pair of blackmailers in the book, too. Interesting to hear some corroboration of it from Jim. Thanks, Winker!
