I love this story so much, I revisit every now and then. Each time I hear it, it’s like listening for the first time. Such a lovely story. Your parents grew up in a time that we all envy now. The simplicity of life, even though they had very little and faced a war. People were content enough. Thank you for sharing Kate 🌺

I found you recently on youtube and love watching your sewing and gardening ones. Although I am not a gardener, I am a crafter and quilter. This morning I started back from your very first video and have just finished watching the one “Remembering my Mum”. It has touched my heart especially because my hubby and I have the same sort of “love story” on how we met. It was during the Viet Nam era, a friend and co-worker was writing to several servicemen. She would send them “care” packages and give them the scoop on local news back then in the 1960’s. She kept trying to entice me to write to the newspaper (or whatever it was called at the time over there). Finally after several months, I submitted my name and address and I heard from 20-some of which I corresponded with most of them. My husband wasn’t much of a writer but I loved to write letters and most got pretty long ones. He, though quite the opposite of your Dad’s thinking, asked if he could meet me when he came home on leave as he new the area I lived since his grandmother lived in the same town as me. There are quite a few more coincidences in our lives that we discovered later, but he told me much later he has 7 other girls, some he new from his school years to visit also, but he didn’t get a chance to visit another after we met in person. We celebrated our 53’d this last August. So your mum and dad’s story is very close to my heart! thanks for sharing all you do. I am loving your current videos and looking back at your earlier ones.

Beautiful story! My Mom and Dad married at 18 and 19 in the 1930's and were married 63 years and my Dad passed away a week later. The last words my Father said to me was, "I love your Mom more today than the day I married her, I need you to tell me you'll take care of her." What a legacy to come from a loving relationship. My parents had 8 children and I was the last one. Watching your videos bring back my life to me that I lived as a child and young girl.

My mum passed away two weeks after yours did. 2017. As gently as she lived. She was beautiful inside and on the outside as well. She sewed and embroidered beautifully. Smocks and pretty dresses and the borders of some of her sarees. She sang. No...she performed for my brother and I. We thought it was normal for all mums to sing like that. She threw beautiful parties. Baked delicious buttery cakes and even pizza. She was fun, loving, thoughtful and had many friends. Even the local garbage collector would visit her. The gardener would too. She fed them all hot sweet milky tea and an egg with buttered bread. "they need the energy", she used to say. She spoke 6 languages including Burmese and Japanese. I miss her but am glad i was blessed with her presence for do long. You're quite a lady. You bring out my better side. Xoxo

I'm watching this again. I losy my mom in December of 2018 She was 92 and had lived with me for 18 years. I still cry weekly over the loss. I admire that you can speak about your parents without tears and am somewhat envious of your control. Love the story of their beginnings. My dad was also in the war in his teenage years but their marriage did not last. They divorced when I was 10 but became great friends when the grandchildren arrived and stayed friends until they died. He loved her always.

I am sorry for your loss. I read somewhere that the greatest gift a man can give his children is to love their mother. My parents were young during the great depression. Married in 47. Dad served in WWII and mom was a "Rosie the riveter" at Republic Avation in Evansville, Indiana. They were married 44 years. Mom was widowed for 23 years and passed at age 90. Aren't we lucky to have had wonderful loving parents.

I'm watching this 6 years later. My grandparents were married 67 years and 4 days when my grandma died just a month after your mom. My grandma knew that she was going to marry my grandpa the first time they met. They were roller skating and my grandma spotted my grandpa and told her friend that she was going to marry him. She was 17 and he was 18. Just over a year later, they were married. My grandparents had 8 kids with my mom being #5 of 8. My grandpa is now 92, and struggling with his loss of independence due to late onset dementia.

Hi Kate. It is September 15, 2024, my younger sister Michelle’s birthday. As always, I watch your videos after my breakfast. (I’m watching from the beginning). This is a sad day for me because Michelle passed away January 21 of this year and I am trying to figure out how to celebrate Michelle at this first ever event after she passed (she was 63). Listening to your story about your parents was uplifting and a great love story. I confess I still cried and am so sorry for your loss (belated). Near the end you said Don’t be sad; it was a good life. It made me perk up and realize that Michelle, too, had a good life and I know she would not want us (her 2 kids and 5 siblings) be sad today. So we shall tell stories of Michelle always laughing, tending to her garden (she was a Master Gardener), and watching Hallmark movies. Thank you for your beautiful story of your parents meeting. So beautiful!

Just seeing this in 2024. It brought to mind my mother’s final days and how those long-told stories suddenly were filled with greater understanding and love. ❤ A long life well lived holds its own arc of grace. Something we don’t see until the end when we begin to weave it into a new set of stories for the next generation to repeat from their hearts someday.

Your beautiful rendering of your parents was very touching. We lost my father in law Dec. 29, 2018 and it brought back many memories. They were married 64 years. It is indeed a joy to me to have known someone so special in my life. My mama was a strong, knowledgeable woman who taught me so many, many things that I am grateful for. Her teachings have blessed me every day. Thank you for the sweet remembrances. Many blessings

Lovely story. It helps with the sorrow of losing a loved one to know they've had a good full life. We aren't here for very long. The Bible says our life is but a vapor regarding the shortness of time. Now that I'm old I believe that. The years go by quicker than before. My mom passed on 9/11/2016. I took care of her the last few months of her life. She was in hospital a lot but we shared trips to the doctors, grocery store, pharmacy, etc...a few days a week out in the car. She ended up in a wheel chair because she had cancer in her hip and it got too difficult to walk. Here I was barely able to walk with spinal stenosis and arthritis in my knees. For some reason we thought it funny that we were the lame leading the lame! She was able to to make light of hard situations. I think being brought up at the end of the Great Depression made a difference. She was kind, and fun and all the neighborhood children wanted to play at my house. She always had something fun to keep us occupied. Good memories over a cup of tea is comforting. I'm going to go make myself a cup now :)

Thank you, Kate. What a lovely narration of your folks love story. Here it is now April 2020. I live in America and the world is in the midst of the dreadful COVID-19 pandemic. My own Mom, Maxine, will be 92 on 5/31. She married my Dad on 6/10/1950; he died on 10/16/2014, at the age of 86. They’d been married 64 years. My husband and I invited my Mom to come make her home with us right after Daddy died but she chose to stay in her pretty, cozy apartment where she was most comfortable, and with all the familiar things she enjoyed. Two years later, at age 88, she decided she’d been on her own long enough and she felt ready to move. She’s been making her home with us ever since. Obviously no one lives forever, and at nearly 92, although she’s quite healthy, that day is getting closer. I don’t think much about it to be honest, but it’s coming, huh.

Its Mothers Day in Australia in 20210 and that is a beatiful story to share. I lost my Mum 3 years ago on Christmas Day, and it is good to sit and reminisce. So I am glad we had this time of remembering our Mums together. x

I’m hearing this story 5 years later Kate. I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m starting from the beginning and have just heard this story about your parent’s love story. I laughed and cried and will think about this over the next few days. I look forward to “getting to know” you better. Many thanks for sharing.

Well, Kate, this is several years later but I’m so sorry about your mom. I just love the story of how your parents met. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us. I just happened upon your videos this morning & can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying them! I’ve decided to start at your earliest & work on from there. 😊I’m in Louisiana (USA), by the way. Take care, Melissa
