It was a thriving part of downtown Pittsburgh. But not everyone knows the history of this tiny Chinese immigrant community - once located between Grant and Ross Streets. The 1920s ushered in the beginning of its disappearance - largely because of the construction of a major roadway, the Boulevard of the Allies. Today, the popular Chinatown Inn restaurant is the only significant remnant of a bygone era. WQED traces the history of Pittsburgh’s Chinatown and recounts how a new generation of Asian Americans is remembering this landmark site.

Pittsburgh is great. I’m from Philadelphia so I view Pittsburgh as like the brother on the other side of the state

I've had lunch at the Chinatown Inn. It's hard to believe that an entire community existed in that small area off of Ross Street.

Best of luck. I hope it remains strong. There used to be a Chinatown in Detroit. It’s long gone now, having been ravaged by crime. Most folks never knew it existed. That was a long time ago. There are other cities that have lost their International district/Chinatown. So sad. I fear that here in Seattle we are going to lose ours. Best of luck to you. Stay strong.
