To those of us who born in the UK, yet reside in the US, the Queen was like a Grandmother we knew about, but couldn't visit. She reminded me so much of my Gramma Alma, in Minnesota, who passed at age 103. Whether you loved, liked, hated, or didn't care about Queen Elizabeth you should be able to see many of the good things she did throughout her reign. Of course she made mistakes over the course of 70 years. She was 24 when she became Queen, but through time she learned while still making mistakes along the way. She was only human after all. She was neither reckless or crass. She loved her country and had not betrayed it. Queen Elizabeth, I thank you for your years of service. With respect and gratitude, An American Brit RIP 🇬🇧🇺🇸

That's because he was sick and hospitalized with the flu and serious respiratory problems when Winston Churchill died. He very very much wanted to lead the U.S. delegation to the state funeral in London (LBJ, De Gaulle, and Kosygin were the only leaders allowed to lead or send delegations of three representatives as their respective countries, U.S., France, and the Soviet Union, were Britain's chief wartime allies) and asked that final decision not be made until his doctors could act. But he did make special accommodations at the funeral. He also secured an arrangement from the Queen to be received in private at Buckingham Palace after the funeral. But when the doctors finally acted, they took the trip away, saying he had to recover from the flu that got him in the hospital. Secretary of State Dean Rusk led the delegation in LBJ's place, but after the funeral, he was criticized for the absence of Hubert Humphrey and told reporters that not sending the new vice president as head of the delegation was a "mistake."
