Remembering Somsri

This video is responsible for making me an activist. I have since first watching it, educated myself concerning the horrors of elephant cruelty around the globe. I can't seem to hold back the tears every time I see this vid. I can't help but think of all the years of the mistreatment of poor Somsri. It's wonderful that BLES has made her last months happy. This is unspeakably good. I have since adopted elephants, supported sanctuaries, and donated as much as I can to help prevent this insane treatment of these intelligent, sensitive creatures. Someone has rightly said that elephants are like humans without the negative qualities. I believe it.

Heart broken story!!! Any animal's owner who treated animals cruelly should be treated same ways, so they can feel how the animals feel! These rescuers - volunteers are ANGELS. Million times thank you for your mission.

And there will be times when one of them will slip to the cracks. She was a gentle soul a beautiful girl. She suffered so much during her life. At least at the end she was taken to a place where she enjoyed and was loved and cared and die with the dignity that she deserved and was denied most of her life.

What a wonderful In Memoriam... Every cell in my body is deeply touched. I am so impressed of how Somsri, after all she'd been through, still was able to accept and enjoy, yes, really cherish, all the love you guys gave to her. It was so clear that she was so happy and relieved to have you at her side at the hospital, and how delighted she was about her final fruit feast... almost as if she knew it was her last party with the humans she loved and who loved her so dearly. I wish her time of happiness might have lasted longer - but i am more grateful than i can express for her to have had a time of happiness at all. You proved to her that humans can be good, too - and all of mankind owes you for that. Thank you, from the depths of my heart, for doing what you did for Somsri and for doing what you do for any other elephant. With love.

I cry when watching this, but it's important to witness, they deserve so much of the best of us and many times suffer the worst of us. My husband said, she was free and I think that's what she needed. I'm sure the people at BLES understood her. It is vital that everyone be a contributor to a sanctuary for people AND animals and all in the sea, such as Sea Shephard. Bless those sweet children.

Very moving that she had at least a comfortable last couple of weeks on earth. But it saddens me even more that she had to be bought free from someone. That someone presumbale pocketed a lot of money and he/she was freed from the inevitable problem that he/she was facing... what to do with a dying/dead elephant? So sad that this person had the audacity to ask money for the Somsri and that many good willing people spared money for Somsri, that went straight into the pocket of the person that had originally the responsibility to take good care of her. The world is very unfair.
