I remember 1986 so well. Last year of high school. I was working at a local grocery store. The 70's were my childhood growing up. The 80's was my teenage years. We had moved to a smaller place. These clips are so nostalgic not only being a Gen X 'r born in 76 that experienced this at the age of 10 and remember much of it, but the '80s, and '90s for the most part, were the final chapters in which decades had a tangible character, that carry on to this day with an inherently powerful impact on today's music and entertainment industry. In my opinion, they produced a legion of instant classics that defined the time collectively. The last bastion of the zeitgeist prior to the explosion of the information age, where the spirit of Christmas was still free from the internet, cell phones and 24 hour cable television. It's an almost prosaic journey to take yourself back to view the world through the lense as presented in this video just nearly 40 short years ago, it was quite a different time...

My grandparents, who hailed from Kansas before moving to California, were big country music fans, so TNN was on quite often at their house. I want to say that's Monty Montana with Red; he was a fixture at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses for years. Speaking of: That was always the unofficial 'end' to the holidays, watching Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards on KTLA Channel 5 on New Year's Day. Macy's Parade was the beginning and the Rose Parade was the end. Gosh, what a beautiful time that was. I was born in '73 so the 80s were halcyon days for me.
