The 49er's had a state of the art offense with Y.A Tittle passing to his big-time backfield of McIlhenny, Perry and Johnson. This was ahead of it's time, in Old NFL films most quarterbacks and tem offenses did not utilize their backs much or at all in their passing offenses. The '49ers were always ahead of the curve in their offense. Y.A. was just as great playing QB for the NY Giants and set a team TD passing record, and I think NFL record with 36 in 1963. Throwing to Del Shofner, Frank Gifford and Joe Morrison as his prime targets. Y.A. is my favorite all time quarterback along with Eli Manning.

Y.A. Tittle was a great QB. He had the record for most TD passes in a season with 33 until Dan Marino threw 48 touchdowns in 1984. Tittle is one of the best Quarterbacks in Giants history...maybe THE best even though he never won an NFL Championship

He still holds the Giants single season TD record with 36. Only reason I put Eli ahead of him is that Manning won 2 Super Bowls and was MVP of both games (also beat Tom Brady and the Pats both times).

Y.A. Had one of the all-time great wide receivers, number 85 Del Shofner, to throw to during his Giant years. Del Shofner is one of the only members of the NFL 1960s all-decade teams who are not in the Hall of Fame (maybe the only one?) and he should be there. RIP both Y.A. and Del Shofner.

I loved how they played football back then. If you had the ball and you crossed the goal line it was a TD and they went with it. Now they review every play and if a single blade of grass touches the ball after 10 mins of reviewing its overturned.

One of the great QBs in NFL history. He gets way too often overlooked and under appreciated. He lit up the league in the 50s and early 60s (when it was MUCH TOUGHER for QBs to throw the football and when they were infinitely less protected than the QBs of the 2000s and 2010s

Old Time QBs watch the game today and chuckle. QBs today get to play in damn near perfect health their entire career. YA Tittle....Unitas.....Brodie...Tarkenton.....Jurgenson.....Namath....and that era of greats played the entire season tinged up. They were beaten bloodied and battered. Played in foul weather half the season. Today's great QBs cant even have an open hand slap their helmet lololol without a 15 yard penalty. I can tell you the old timers must howl , wishing they played today's game.
