@@TheBonkleFox It's just a rule that FF protagonists aren't allowed to have sensible firearms as their primary weapon. Lightning gets a gigantic switchblade knife that's also somehow a rifle, and even when Vincent was promoted to main character for his own game he had to start with a triple-barrel handcannon instead of using one of the copyright-friendly renamed realistic guns he used to use. Well considering there were plans for a Shepherd class in 1.0, I could believe they might consider adding it in the game later on. Personally, I'd love to see a Merchant class for Disciple of Hand. Though considering how the Market Board works, I doubt they'd add any sort of Merchant class unless it was another Blue Mage situation with it's own exclusive content.

If anything, I'd argue that the Musketeer became part of the inspiration (and probably turned into) the Machinist, especially during the Stormblood incarnation of Machinist, given how a lot of skills revolved around your gun and augmenting it. Though to be honest, I'm REALLY happy with how Machinist evolved into it's current Shadowbringers iteration. It feels much more like how a Machinist SHOULD play, with a strong focus on using all manner of inventions and gadgets to both damage foes and enhance themselves as well as their allies.

Of course, that would mean reworking the whole algorithm set in place, so I'm fine with what we have.

while we likely will never see muskateer, we at least have one in npc form with Merlwyb
@johndipietro93012 жыл бұрын
Thinking on it, I wonder if they also took some of the ideas for Arcanist and moved them to Machinist along with Musketeer. Musketeers still "exist" in the form of NPCs, though I think Merlwyb is the only one who actively uses it in combat (and then it's very basic and underdeveloped). But it seems very much to JUST be guns. Machinist, on the other hand, uses technology powered by magic, including turrets (originally having two flying turrets - the Rook and Bishop). That part seems to be an effect similar to what the "distaffs" might have done - they probably had other utilities, but those would be dropped for the more damage-focused Machinist. This would also lend to a theory I have that the HW jobs were planned to build on existing classes, but that the idea was scrapped in favor of the "job only" system - with DRK being Marauder/Thaumaturge combo (or maybe GLD/THM, but MRD fits certain structural elements better) and Machinist planned to be an upgrade for a Musketeer class that would have been added, with Arcanist as a secondary.

Wow, the 1.0 dev team had this resolute determination to make this FF game feel nothing like an FF game. At first I chalked it up to the way FF13 had "roles" that were differently named due to having such different functions. Things like ravagers, because black mages don't use elemental physical attacks; or white mage being distinctly split into synergist and medic so you could determine whether a character healed or buffed; commando and saboteur being less of physical fighters and more specialists in dealing non-elemental damage or debuffs; commandos and ravagers having the versatility to attack physically or magically, instead being distinct in that they did elemental or unaspected damage. All of these were changed to accommodate the way you would macromanage the party as they wanted a much faster-paced battle system (even though allowing you to micromanage through character switching should've been a feature to begin with, and not something that should've been kept till the sequel, as that in itself exposed how shallow these roles became in a vacuum, but that's beside the point.) But, after seeing this, I'm like "hang on, why _couldn't_ the marauder, pugilist, conjurer, thaumaturge, lancer, and gladiator just be called warrior, monk, white mage, black mage, dragoon, and paladin? They do the same damn thing!" Yoshi P did also mention that the original game did indeed have zero intent to have the classic jobs, and him putting them in as upgrades to these "alternatives" was more of an attempt to make the FF game feel like FF. Ironically, now I love that idea because it feels like you start the game as some normie with a generic title like archer or gladiator, and once it becomes apparent you're a Warrior of Light, you hit level 30 and graduate to the prestigious rank of Final Fantasy protagonist, complete with classic FF job like black mage or monk. Granted I think archer to bard is a bit of a stretch, but considering how you can make a lyre look kinda like a bow and vice versa, I really dig it :P

IKR? I'm certain the game could handle something like that if it was maybe an instanced based thing like PvP. Hell, it'd be awesome if it worked similar to how it did in 1.0, where even Crafters and Gatherers could help out by crafting items and gathering supplies before and during the invasion. I've only been playing since Stormblood, and even I'm all for them bringing back Hamlet Defense (or at least something similar to it if not exactly that).
@MRorizs27 жыл бұрын
Dzemael Darkhold is way better now I think. also the new dungeon design makes it possible to solo it. I think they probably thought of the possibility for an expansion when they were redesigning the game. about those classes... maybe they would have worked in the old system but I don't see them working after the redesign. It would just be a bunch o classes with basically the same mechanic in battle and there's no point in doing it and overloading the game with stuff that can easily be supplied by one or two classes. the way it is now, at least, each class/job presents a different way of playing to the party. If you want to be a mage, you can choose a classic elemental mage or you can choose to be a heavy DoT +pet management mage. if you want to be healer you can choose to be either preemptive ( Scholar), with damage mitigation and buffs, or reactive (White Mage) with heavy heals and regens, or you can choose to have weaker heals but be faster and have multiple buffs to the party (astrologian). All physical DPS present something unique to their job and so on. this makes party diversity a lot better. Of course it's nice to see the remnants of those guilds, like I had always wondered about the musketeer one under the Marauder's guild. Have you seen there's a oob in Limsa that opens the doors that are closed and it kinda feels like it gives you access to the old 1.0 map areas they blocked. It's all empty dark hallways tho, very creepy

Not that they had to make the maps be close to the old ones (esp given how they just moved ancient ruins to entire new parts of the maps), but the area around aleport actually looks fairly similar, if accounting for what looks like a large chunk of the coast being completely wiped out, based on how far away the isles of umbra are from the land now and how much closer camp skull valley is to the coast. If someone wanted to give a story reason for new aleport looking nothing like old aleport, the easy answer is "the whole coast was wiped out basically, so since they had to rebuild from scratch anyway why not just build it better this time."

Hamlet defence still has a fart smelling shade in the shape of some specific FATEs in ARR maps. Cool concept, would do more of those if the backlog (leve achievements) for everything (beast tribes) wasn't (fishing log) literally (hunt achievements) over a decade (relic weapons) long as it stands. Doing old content will also become more off putting for new and old players in the future as the new and interesting stuff is where the game is at. The arcanist distaff tech puts my fever addled brain in a memory of WoW's shaman totems??? My first starting class was ARC because the 'magic from a book' idea was more fresh and interesting than the tentative smell of finally getting a sensible weapon choice in lancer. Both these dreams were of course dashed aground like the Galadion at lv30 when the stinky jobs taint perfectly good weapon classes, ah well. Massive hate for machinist, the steady and level headed musketeers look a lot more enticing by comparison. Should've been a crafting class. Speaking of which, no clue how herding and butchering would work as DoL classes in 2024 gameplay but OH BOY would I prefer that over the species mass-genocide of currently harvesting goblin nosehairs or whatever the [current expansion] craftables need! This all may come off as aggressive to the reader, but in sincerity I wouldn't have fully maxed every job or froth at the mouth for slight inconveniences if I didn't like the game over every alternative choice. Now that I got to writing, one of the other RoaR episodes mentioned character and job levels having been separate and it reminded me how RuneScape tracks total, combat and skill specific levels independently. The way 1.0 did it seemed to me more like that the way the devs intended 1.0 leveling to work was closer to single player rpg mechanics though.

Dat Musketeer, such a waste. Machinist could have had a class on its own. Fencer might have been a class for Red Mage, which could have equipped jewels in its off hand giving the DoW magic capabilities. Just a speculation, but it's interesting to think about it based on the info mentioned here. The current Arcanist we have now, I have mixed feelings. I mean, I'm okay with the Arcanist as a DoT caster, but to extend its gameplay to the Summoner job? Not so much. Summons in 2.0 feel underwhelming, and 3.0 pretty much forgot about the pets with no new abilities for the pets. Finally, it's safe to assume Assassin had made it to 2.0 as the Rogue.

Considering that the description says skilled at parrying, means it would have to be under attack enough times for it to need to avoid taking damage. But I could see changing some stuff it could easily be changed to a dps.

Traditionally in FF games with a full fledged job system the Fencer has appeared as a prerequisite job to unlock Red Mage. With Red Mage already on the way of course there's no chance of them implementing Fencer now. About the only job on that list I still see them possibly still doing is Mystic.

The series hasn't ended yet! But I still mispronounce that word every now and then ;)

I really want an Enforcer class in FF! there's something appealing about a cute waifu smashing heads in with a giant hammer.

I've heard speculation that they might add a Geomancer class later on, and personally I think it'd be interesting if that class used hammers as a sort of melee variant of Bard, where it's melee focused, but a lot of it's skills revolve around using Geomancy to support allies and enfeeble foes. Or perhaps even make it a healer, kinda like how Dancer is technically Ranged Physical, but a lot of it's AoE skills have a melee range? Maybe something like that for Geomancer?

Ugh. Scrapping 1.0 is one of the top things in my life I wish didn't happen. It was a huge and unique world with so much potential. So tired of the themepark MMO's out there.

Ugh. I couldn't agree more. Watching these videos just ends up pissing me off. What FFXIV could've been was so much more under Tanaka. Kids these days will never know.

weeeeeell they had to change it since it took more money than it gave. the engine also had alot of limitations to apply changes so they had to remake it anyway.

Darth Gumby I think the way the original was coded majorly fucked up the game. It had to read and process too much making the game laggy and broken. I think the game at its core was messed up, which is why they had to remake it from scratch.

It had potential, but it was really not fun at all to play, for a multitude of reasons. Even at its best point (1.23b), it was still agonizingly slow, full of technical issues, lacked a lot of content and QoL features people take for granted in 2.0 and onward, and while it had seamless zones and a lot more to explore it was a pain in the ass to navigate and was mostly copypasted assets in empty space. 1.0 is one of those things some new players think they want, but they really don't. It was fundamentally a bad game, and Yoshida tried to salvage what was there before deciding to completely restart from scratch. There are a few things here and there I wish they would have carried over, but 2.0 was an immeasurably better game in nearly every regard, save for visuals

tera is a dying game with developers who care nothing about the balance of classes and have resorted to doing nothing but making new and fancy class that are extremely overpowered compared to the rest forcing people to keep making new classes. Tera had great combat system ............but that's literally all it had.
