Brings back old memories. Sure beats the old 17’ Whaler and a couple trail 90’s for hunting the inlets. That’s all we had 30 years ago and boy did we get wet for days. Thanks for taking the time to put the video together. Cheers.

You’d solve all your condensation issues immediately if you put a woodstove in your boat. In our sailboat, I’ve got the double bus heater for when the motor’s running, and we fire up the woodstove as soon as we drop the hook. Impossible to be cold or damp in our boat! The woodstove was the first thing I installed in the boat when we bought it 20 years ago, and it’s still the single best improvement I’ve done to the boat..
@4byfarmАй бұрын
We’ve almost got a handle on it, just the hatch in the bow drips when it’s closed, I’m think just a rain gaurd of some sort so we can leave it cracked when it’s raining. Otherwise the diesel stove is doing well.

I always wanted to do a trip like that with the boat towing a 4x4, cool! The potential to explore the coast like that is huge! And the fat bike is a perfect addition too.

Blue eyes is my old boat, I bought it in Parksville used it to go hunting up the coast in rivers inlet. sold it in 2015 to a guy in Cilliwack. Great to see she is still going. How are those diesels doing we had head issues.
@4byfarmАй бұрын
Small world! It sat at a dock in Powell River for 2 years before I purchased it in 2023. I’ve been breathing some new life into it, the diesels have been running great, I’ve been scheming about putting a pair of 6bt Cummins in it though. I hope you enjoyed our video! Thanks for watching!

Hello from Q Cove! New subscriber, but I'm a long time Discovery Islander. I've been meaning to do a mainland hunt in my Ranger 21 Tug, but the cramped space and lack of heat (bus heater only so no heat without the Yanmar chugging) has kept hunting local, for now. Who knows, maybe next year? Thanks for the interesting story.
@4byfarmАй бұрын
Those Ranger Tugs are awesome machines! If you have room for a diesel stove I highly recommend it! It was sure nice to dry off our boots and coats this season! Thanks for the comment, I’m glad you enjoyed our video!

@@4byfarm had a Dickinson Antarctic in our last boat, and loved it. But that was a 37 foot sloop. We used to boat year round and spent New Years Eve at Mansons Landing, Cortes Island. At best in my Ranger 21, I might be able to squeeze in a small Chinese diesel parking heater. In our climate, heat in a boat or RV is definitely a game changer. See ya' on the ferry some day...when it's running LOL.

You'll learn how to get that diesel heater running better with practice. That flame is too orange/red, burning cooler and producing more smoke than it should. Once you get used to lighting it, you will find you can get it to produce a yellow/blue flame which is much hotter and cleaner burning.
@4byfarmАй бұрын
It has been burning much cleaner since I cleaned out the fuel lines, flame is much more blue and yellow now. It’s definitely a bit of an art though, it will turn orange if left on too low of a setting it seems
@two-senseАй бұрын
@@4byfarm Yes, it is a bit of an art. Worth it though. Glad to hear you are getting a hotter flame now. We give ours a thorough cleaning every 100 hours, or less if we run it low a lot. When you run it low, crank it up full for half an hour every 2-3 hours. It will help some. Cool weather cruising is the best! Cheers.

@two-sense This is great info thank you!

@@4byfarm No problem. We have the two chimney setup. One for fresh air to feed the bottom intake in the heater, and the other to exhaust the combustion gasses. Intake is a foot or so lower than the top of the actual exhaust chimney. We've sailed hard to weather with it running lots of times, with zero backdrafts. I love the dry heat of diesel, nothing beats it. Propane just fills your boat with water. Happy cruising.

@@SamG-v5v it’s a Mossberg Patriot Long Range .308, it’s a bit heavy for hiking and probably a bit over powered for our coastal deer, but it’s what we have for now. We are looking at a new set up next season, maybe a tikka .243 or 6.5 creedmore. Thanks for watching!
@SamG-v5vАй бұрын
@ it’s great 308 is my favourite caliber light 150 grains for deer for moose and elk 165 or 180 out to 500 yards the drop is not much diffrent then the 6.5 but way more power I’ve been using 308 since I’m 13 have gotten 1elk and 320yards one shot drop 3 deer I have a 7mm rem mag but I rather have a lighter quick handling 308
