I have a suggestion for you guys. I have only watched a couple of your videos so forgive me if you're already doing something like this. It looks to me like you have everything you need for a pool vac already on site. After filling the hot tub, you could put your trash pump next to it on the deck. Then set it up to circulate out of and right back into the tub. Before the water dumps back into the tub, have it go through your net. You would clean the bottom of it in about 2 minutes using the suction hose as the vacuum nozzle. Cheers!

The "old school tunnel rat" job was great! You could put old used oil barrels into the tunnels and if earth fall on them it will not be a monster break on top. The good thing with mettal barrels: You could form them with a big hammer...so they fit better.After putting them into the place- fill the tunnel roof with metal fence and over that a water proof foil- fill the space between net and barrel with styroopor and the rest with spray foam water proofe water proof is importend so that the foam will not root. If you find broken surf boards- cut them into 2 pices drill a hole into them and put them over the pipes as a smoze icebreaker. Frank

I am curious to see how that holds up. It is very strong, but ice is stronger than almost anything. I think it will jam up to start, then break loose and flow out a few yards. Leaving the remaining ice as a shield. Any runoff water that flows over it should drop sediment, further strangling it. At least, that is my theory. I do know for sure. It is better than nothing. I love your cabin and wish I had one like it to live in.

Do you think you need a "No Woodcutting" sign now that you have several cords of logs staged right on the river? But then you probably don't get too many steamboats up that way. I'm excited to see how it endures the winter and breakup. The part that stays above water should be pretty solid after it all freezes together and coated in ice.
@diyalaskanlifestyle4 ай бұрын
No, this wood will be covered in silt after the water level goes up, the chainsaw chain would be dull in no time. And people up here in the woods for the most part don’t steal or vandalize.

I forgot: The trees by the river- there rootsystem is allsow a "vibration- shaking element" When the winds or even storms hit and shake the trees the roots are under stress in all directions. Iam not an expert on your kind of sand earth mixture by the beach- but can it be that if would be clever to cut the trees- 5-8 meters from the beach? By doings so the roots would rotten from the time but the sand mixture around the roots would not be shaked. Frank

I was wondering do you ever have bear trouble? I really enjoy your videos and watch how you have built the building and hot tub and the deck. Why do you think the erosion is so bad on the river? And do you think you can stop it?
@diyalaskanlifestyle4 ай бұрын
I haven’t had any bad bear problems but they are around I find hair on logs that the rub up next to. It only takes one bear to associate a cabin with food then you have a nuisance bear that will hit cabins along the river. The record grizzly bear was shot pretty close to my cabin. The river has change over the last couple yrs flowing more along my bank. Yes I think I can slow it but obviously it will do what it wants. If worst comes to worse I’ll bring a small piece of equipment up in the winter when the river is froze and leave for the summer. There is techniques to stop erosion using whole tree roots/stumps.

one last thought about the "beach stability": The beach eara is a mixture out of 100 cm earth sand and then much sand. Can it be that the 6 wheeler and the other ATWs with 150-300 killo weight produce vibrations when they drive over that part of the beach? The vibration coul shake the ground and looses sand from the tree roots. Me be it is better to create a new autobahn or highway 10 meters away from the beach. Its about building physic- as long as the beach the river side has no steal concrete or wood wall- the sand will me loosen and go down. I would create a new runway for the trafic and I would not park them direct by the harbour station. Safe the ground from to much weight and vibrations. Clay in the deep of a river or by a river is the most stabil foundament. Sand is the most weak material. As I wrote bevore: Think about to cover the 4 or 5 meters beach over the edge with a heavy duty foil so that rain would not wash the egde out or the rain would wash the beach out. I dont know if that is clever. But we protect such earas with foil it keeps the material stabil. Rain has power not only the riverwater and ice and vibrations form ATW also Frank
