I believe the answer to Question #2 contains an error in the blue text. The voiceover specifies that it is AGL, and that lines up with the FAA website about MOST class E airspace. However, the blue answer text shows an answer that actually doesn't exist at all in the three possibilities. It says "A" but then also says "AGL." I belive the answer should be "B. 700 AGL"

Seriously, one of the more informative videos I've watched..and I've watched 50+ over the past week or so. Just wanted to say 'thanks' for taking the time to go over the questions in a 'Mock Test' type format, along with explaining the answers (visual + verbal = very awesome).

Actual manned pilot here. Your explanation of class G and E airspace is somewhat wrong and misleading by the way. The magenta vignette is an indication of the floor of class E airspace (either 700 OR 1200 agl), it is not a range as in your video. Also the dashed magenta means it is echo from the surface all the way up to 17,999ft. It does not stop at 700agl just because it is within the magenta shading!!

Thank you for putting this video together, it's informative and straight to the point. I came across the error for question 2 as well. You addressed it a while back. I know it's a pain to upload a new video, but perhaps it may help others if you put a note in the description about the error. In any case... I thank you for taking the time out to make this video... I've added it to my study guide a point of reference.

The compass rose you refer to is a set of radials for a VOR navigation transmitter, with 0° being magnetic north. VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) is a navigation aid used by aircraft.

I'd also like to tell you how much I appreciate your instructional videos. Regarding airspace, the only space drones can fly legally is class G, am I right? Has anyone ever submitted a request to fly a drone in restricted airspace and heard back from the FAA in a timely manner with a favorable decision? How quickly is communication received and in what manner is it communicated (letter, email, msg)? How does one even ask the FAA?
@DroneTribe
@DroneTribe 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, thanks for the kind words! You need airspace authorization for commercial drone operations in Class B, C, D, and E from the surface. The FAA has been approving waiver requests for operations in these airspaces, but it's been limited. To file a waiver, do so online here: www.faa.gov/uas/request_waiver/ As of right now, the FAA requires 90 days to process a waiver, however sometime in the future they will be re-working these rules (and hopefully it's an instant request and authorization). So you are correct that Class G airspace would not require any waivers for commercial operations. Additionally, Class E airspace with a floor of 700 feet AGL wouldn't require any waivers.

HI, great video, definitely one of the most informing videos I've watched so far. On question 2 you have answer A as correct at 700 ft agl but above answer A states 700 ft msl in selection. So just to be clear are b and d airspace heights in msl and c and e airspace generally in agl? Thanks again for the video, Thumbs up.
@DroneTribe
@DroneTribe 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler - good catch! The answer for question #2 is 700 feet AGL (should be "B" instead of "A". Thanks for pointing that out! Class B, C, D airspace heights are all in MSL, whereas Class E is the only airspace listed in AGL.

Where's the floor '700 feet AGL' found?
@DroneTribe
@DroneTribe 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Tay - the airspace with the floor of '700 feet AGL' is Class E airspace. The simplest way this is broken down is in the Legend in the Testing Supplement (dronetribe.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Legend-Airman-Knowledge-Testing-Supplement.pdf)

@@nickhopwood4233 Yeah, if Class E in the FAA diagram they have it in AGL should it should be AGL. I think the only MSL are B and C. D and E are in AGL.

OK so this example is almost exactly what I was going to ask you about here in Dallas Class B. So the inner ring is SFC/110, the second shelf is 25/110, the third is 30/110, the fourth is 40/110. My question is they all have blue solid circles going out many many miles. I thought we could fly as long as we are 5 miles from the airport. The outer rings extend out a whopping 34 miles. Are we not allowed to fly under any of the shelves, or do we just have to not fly where it says SFC ??
@DroneTribe
@DroneTribe 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, as a certified operator under Part 107, you can fly within 5 miles of an airport, if the airspace allows it or if you have airspace authorization. If you are flying below the shelves (ie. the second shelf in your example 25/110), then no authorization would be required. You would need authorization if you wanted to fly where is says "SFC", because the airspace is from the surface.

No one ever explains that if you are photographing a building 450' tall, you can actually fly as much as 400' above the actual building. Not up to 50' below the top of the building. This is current FAA approval for 2019.

You need to learn this yourself ..at the 3:45 time point I stopped. You made the statement about Class C airspace as surface to 4000 feet MSL .. not true .. Class C airspace goes generally from the surface to 4000 AGL. Look at the Class C airspace for Colorado Springs .. surface to 4000 AGL ... if it only went to 4000 MSL it would be underground in the COS airspace. No good listening to incorrect information ..

I don't see a mistake in his information. I'm looking at Colorado Springs and it's SFC to FL102. He clearly said it's generally from the surface to 4000'.
