You implied (and I think outright said at about 07:25) that permission is required to fly in Class E airspace. However, it is my impression that *no permission or communication is required of VFR pilots in Class E airspace* ...but visibility and perhaps minimum distances from clouds are different. Am I wrong?

For work, I took this course from Jason and Remote Pilot 101 and everything in this course is spot on. I got a 96 on my test and my colleague got a 94. We took three work days to take the course and all of the practice tests, then did all of the practice quiz's and tests one after another, all part of the remotepilot101 course, and took the test at a local airport testing facility. We now have our 107 and are beginning drone operations with an agricultural use. Great course and well worth the price and time.

I've just completed my course and now scheduled to take my Part 107 Knowledge Test. I want to thank Jason and the staff at MzeroA, they are who I chose to take the course from. So far I've been averaging 94 to 96% on my practice exams and I feel confident when I go in at the end of this month to take the exam, I have no doubt I'm going to rock this exam. The courses that Jason teaches are easy to understand and very thorough. He breaks everything down to where anyone should be able to understand. I also want to say that I think any drone pilot should take these courses, even if she or he isn't going to take their drone piloting to a commercial level. Great presentation. After looking at a 1980s sectional I still have, things look similar but this is because my brain is still stuck in 1980s airspace. Seriously, markings are similar, its just airspace has become considerably more crowded and more restricted since I last played PIC in 1982. More Class B circles and greater area coverage etc...and other similar changes around populated areas.

I self studied and passed just fine, I got the Drone U Part 107 Study guide from my local library. You do have to study but i don't think you need to spend this kind of money to pass. Just a thought for anyone on the fence. Get every practice test you can, study the areas where you fail the most, when you start to pass them you will know that you are ready.

I just finished Jason's course and got a 91.5 % on my final exam. I felt the course was well done and Jason has been busy gathering research and current Part 107 test questions and information. I can't tell you how valuable that is. As new information becomes available he updates his students with new videos to make sure we have the latest information. Folks this is a rapidly evolving body of knowledge and laws. I don't know about you but I don't have the time to stay up on all the new information and that's why Jason's course is so valuable because he does all this for us! Yes it's $99 but that's for life. Ive gone through the course and I agree it is absolutely amazing. Not only is it educational but the way he presents it makes the material very fun. Pete I haven't yet taken the part 107 test, the paranoia is still there and was wondering if you had any suggestions on if i should use any other supplementation on top of jasons. I scored an 85% on his final exam first time around, will be going through it several more times, but can never be too safe!

I actually just took part 107 test and although I was getting scores in the 90's on Jason's practice exams, I only scored an 83 on the actual Part 107 test. I expected to do better, but I passed! One thing that surprised me was the test was weighed very heavily on airspace and questions related to that. I would suggest you really understand airspace inside and out. good luck!

Folks I know nothing about this test. No prior knowledge whatsoever. I just fell in love with drones. Is it feasible to think I could learn this and pass the test pretty quick. I will put the study hours in. Quickly- I’m a 9th grade drop out with a GED and been to 3 different colleges with a Law Enforcement (APOST) certificate from one. studying hard I was still a C student in classes like Anatomy and Physiology. This test looks hard. Heck I can tell it’s hard from comments. I guess I’m asking if an average guy with no prior knowledge could handle this test and if so just roughly how long to prepare? I studied for one hour (watched the KZbin video that’s 1:19) and went to meacham airport and passed the remote pilot certification. It CAN be done. However, I pick things up EXTREMELY fast. A lot of it is common sense minus the airspace stuff which is quite hard to understand. I highly suggest reading up on LAWS and AIRSPACE. With those two study groups you should have no issues passing.

I passed the exam today!!! Thank you Jason for your guidance and training to enable me to pass the exam on my first try. As you can tell from the above video, Jason does an excellent job at explaining the subject matter. If you take the time and put in the effort to learn and understand the lessons in his course, then you should be able to pass the exam as well. Jason is absolutely correct about how much weight is put on airspace, charts and weather. He teaches all this and more so tht you will have a solid and confident understanding of everything covered on the exam. More importantly, you will understand how important safety is when you are planning and piloting your flights. I only used the course. I took the practice tests through all the lessons and also took the practice exam at the end several times. I always received 90% or over and then day before my exam at the airport I took it 3 more times scoring 98% twice and 100% once. The next day I took the exam scoring 82%. The exam isn't light hearted. When I took the exam, I was given 63 questions, not the standard 60. The examiner told me they randomly select people to give them test questions to see how they work out. I guess I was a lucky contestant, hahaha. The extra 3 questions do not affect your score. Your test score is still based on 60 questions. However, it is still like having a 63 question exam, because you have no idea which 3 are the test questions. I recommend this course, but before you go for the real exam, take the practice exam a lot. Also find other exams to practice with and REALLY learn the charts and weather from this course. Jason is a great teacher and it is easy to learn from him. However, I suggest Jason cover the airspace a bit more.

Not an easy test but if you pay attention and take the test while the info is fresh in your mind it should not be that hard. Use the reference book provided the images are way better than on the computer screen. Just a few tips. Know your airspace and be able to find a point on the sectional chart using longitude and latitude down to minuets. Become familiar with the abbreviations on charts and know how to read metars and tafs. Then there will be some operational questions that are almost common sense. Just commit to memory everything Jason tells you to.

OK so this example is almost exactly what I was going to ask you about here in Dallas Class B. So the inner ring is SFC/110, the second shelf is 25/110, the third is 30/110, the fourth is 40/110. My question is they all have blue solid circles going out many many miles. I thought we could fly as long as we are 5 miles from the airport. The outer rings extend out a whopping 34 miles. Are we not allowed to fly under any of the shelves, or do we just have to not fly where it says SFC ??

FAA is getting faster on some occasions. I got an Authorization for a Class C Airspace in less than a week. I gave an exact time frame, address and company name at that location. Kept it at 250 agl. It was even just two blocks away from the tower.

Looks like a great course. I'm considering taking the test, but I am a licensed private pilot. I am not current with my BFR and would need to invest more money to get current than it would cost to take the test. I have one question that I can not find the answer to - If I am near an uncontrolled airport in class E airspace, I know the class e airspace starts at 700 AGL, but isn't there some other level of controlled airspace to the surface 5 miles out from the center of the airport ?? I believe there was an ATA (airport traffic area) 5 miles out ?

I think that is Class B airspace (airports, etc.). You have to get prior ATC permission to fly inside the 5nm range. I used 1800wxbrief to file.

Well would a government apparently requires people that go through courses or classes in order to fly model aircraft 1 they have overstep their boundaries and 2 people who are offering products geared towards Preparing People for that can now charge more because it's pretty much mandated so once again government makes things more expensive and now that it's mandated there will be a increase in the amount of people with the increase in demand for his product he can sell it for more, so not only is the FAA ruining the hobby of model Aviation they are also making things more expensive for people in general.

Does echo always start at 700ft inside the faded magenta circle and always start at 1200ft outside of it? There's no indicator for specific altitude so I'm assuming thats just the standard?

Yes. Adding to what the others said, there are some exceptions in remote areas out west and in Alaska where Class E starts at 14,500 MSL. Also along the coasts over international waters, Class E has several shelves at various altitudes. These are marked on the chart as blue "zippered" lines.

You mean magenta, not red. I know they look vaguely similar, but magenta is not red. It's used so that symbols and lines can be seen in the red cockpit lights at night. Same as for boats and ships.

07:34 I'm very new to this but the way I read things today I think his statement that you'd penetrate class E airspace by inspecting the tower is not correct. Please help me if I'm wrong. Here's my logic as to why inspecting that tower near Cooperstown does not penetrate class E airspace, First, I think he was looking at the fact that the tower is 1708 MSL, but in reality it's only 250 AGL (the number in parenthesis next to the obstruction) in fact Cooperstown itself is 1424 MSL and the fact that they use the single icon for the obstruction itself means that it's under 1000 AGL. You're allowed 400' on top of a structure if you're within 400' off the edge of that structure (although if it has guy wires then the suggestion is that you fly 2000 feet away from it, but I digress), so that would mean your drone could reach 250 (top of structure) + 400 = 650 AGL which is under the 700 AGL floor of the class E airspace. E's floors are AGL. Anyway, I've been prepping too long for this test, but could someone please let me know if my logic is correct, or where I'm off if it is not? Thanks!

Your explanation about the difference between uncontrolled airspace (Class G) and controlled airspace (Class E, above 700' AGL or 1,200 AGL) is confusing as you imply you need clearance to fly in Class E controlled airspace. This is incorrect if you do not enter Class A, B, C or D airspace. This difference between Class G and Class E has to do with minimum weather limitations and cloud clearance requirements that must be adhered to when you are flying.

From what I understand you do not need a clearance or permission to enter, fly or operate in class E airspace unless the pilot wants to fly IFR or weather conditions are less than minimum for VFR flight.

No. And depending on what form of colorblindness you have, you might still be able to be a private pilot.
