Quite a PRECIOUS video! This is so useful for all of us begginers. Thank you so very much and greetings from the Algarve.

My summary from this is loose rivets suck no matter what you do. Good video.

Thanks for the video. Great ideas. The tape worked real good for me and saved my day. The side grinder - IF I would have had to go that route I'd have substituted a Dremel with a cur off wheel or a grind stone. The Dremel is a lot easier to control and prevent maring a finished surface.

I use a small nail puller to hold the rivet if it will fit in there.. It looks like a screw driver with a "V" shaped end to pull the nail, just another suggestion.

Also, remember to use a sharp, freshly sharpened drill bit. Less drag = less Spinn

How can you tell the diameter of the holes in a rivet that you need to remove that you didn’t install? Especially when the head is a very large one

I have a loose rivnut that held on my roof rack on my car installed by previous owner, any tips?
@WaschyNumber12 жыл бұрын
Use a correct smaller drill bit(sharp drill bit is best) size that fits in the Rivet hole and apply little more pressure and you don't need fancy stuff for removing the Rivet.

it seems the duct tape works best-the other ways aren't very convincing!

I have a fiberglass camper. Many of the fasteners are pop rivets. I ran into one today that appears to have a pop rivet with an acorn nut on the working end It goes through the roof and the end that would be popped off by the rivet gun is exposed on the outside surface of the roof. I cannot find ant reference in google images. Do you have any experience with this?

We would need to see the rivets to be sure of what they are. Try taking a picture of them and sending it to us at our support email so we can try to identify it: support@rawproductscorp.com

@@AlbanyCountyFasteners Thanks for your reply. I did more research on a fiberglass camper forum. Last night someone commented that the pop rivet is pushed through the roof from the outside. On the inside a helper pushes the acorn nut onto the end of the rivet. The person on the roof activates the rivet and the expanding end of the rivet expands into the acorn nut and traps it. Hope this helps.

This is nice, I just broke my drill bit because I thought I needed more pressure :|

If all else fails add a couple of drops of loctite 638, leave overnight and drill it out in the morning.

How about a small pair of vise grips to hold the river head?

The rivets are still spinning under the tape.
@AlbanyCountyFasteners6 жыл бұрын
The tape won't keep the rivets still the whole time, but it doesn't need to. Once the drill bit gets a secure hold of the spinning rivet, the rest is easy. The tape helps hold the rivet still, or at the very least make it more difficult for the rivet to spin.

These tips are useless. Tilt your drill to a +-30 degree angle. The rivet will turn slowly while you chew away the head. Easy peasy and fast.
