I'm going to try this with my acrylic aquarium, nothing seems to get all the tough algae, I'll will give it a go. Thank you!

I scrub the tanks at PetSmart every single day. Would this sponge as good alone without the magnet?
@ewaldsreef2 жыл бұрын
It works great without the magnet. Just make sure not to catch any substrate in the sponge as it will cause scratches.

Nice to see im not the only ps employee suffering from cleaning those tanks. Armpits be bruised up cleaning the feeder tanks
@jscribbl32 жыл бұрын
@@Keawe I bought one of those magnetic scrubbers they're not made for acrylic but I take the velcro side and do soft circles up down side to side. And use the white algae pads that are made for the acrylic and scrub the shit out. It works every time my tanks are fabulous. Also a massage therapist so if your arms start getting hot from over working stick them in the comet tanks (66°) and stretch your fingers out. It's like ice therapy. Wish you luck my fellow PS employee♥️

@@jscribbl3 thanks for the great advice! Will note that down. Although the comet tanks are actually the ones i suffer the most, im very cold sensitive. Maybe I'll bargain with the goldies to blanket my arm to keep me warm in exchange for some bloodworms.

So the cloth covered magnet goes on the inside with another magnet on outside? What brand magnets?

Bruce, great vid. I have been a salt/fresh water fish hobbyist for 30 years. I have a 450 gal acrylic tank than I need to clean algae off the walls. I will follow your lead, try the Dobie method and let you know how it works for me.

Same exact issue here.... 450 gallon and it's impossible to reach the bottom!!

What is it called again and where can I purchase one?
Yes. The one I used in this video is a set from the brand "algae free". Mag Float also makes some good cleaning magnets.

All good but you have to be careful when you get close to the sand bed ,not to get any sand on it .Or it will scratch the acrylic.
@ewaldsreef2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. You make a good point. The sand will scratch it immediately.

Can you leave the sponge in if doing it by hand and is this a safe way to not scratch your acrylic aquarium?
@ewaldsreef3 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes. Obviously you want to be careful not to pick up any gravel or other debris in the cleaning pad. Other than that it is is very safe and effective on acrylic.

Nah. melamine sponge is WAY better for acrylic. Especially the really tough stuff that would normally require a razor if it was on glass. They sell them on Amazon. 30 of them for M them $10, or 100 for $20! Seriously a game changer and my acrylic has never looked so amazing. Especially if you have saltwater this Is the way to go.
