Improvised and overcame ! 🙌👍 I've had to make my own tools before too . Sometimes what you can come up with is better than what they're selling . Glad I found this video before I ran up against this issue .Kudos friend !! Just saved me from a major hassle .Much appreciated . Mine is a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird with tilt steering ,but I'm sure the parts are similar . Started feeling some play in the steering wheel up and down but not side play and became a little concerned. I've never had to deal with this sort of issue in all my years of repairing cars .Oh well there's always a first time for everything I guess . Again much appreciated and thumbs up .

Hey Richard. Great video! Can you demonstrate how to remove a broken special tool or bolt from the pivot pin area? In the case of breaking the pivot pin remover special tool in the door side slot on the steering column. Screw extractor/easy-out or a drill bit?

Yeah... I had a piece break off in my pin, too. I got it out, but stripped the inside threads in the process. My current plan is to tap the hole with the next size up, and either create a slide hammer, or proceed in similar fashion as the video above. I did a lot of looking, and I couldn't find any 8-32 bolts in Grade 8; all I could find was slotted head machine screws, longest being an inch, and that's what got me in this current predicament. Those are soft as hell, and snapped right off.

I understand how to grade BOLTS, but how does one determine the grade of a screw, and what type of screw is that, anyway?? Doesn't look like a phillips' head or a hex, is that a Torx screw? Other than that, thanks for the great idea and the awesome video!!

Certainly. Though, depending on the year of the Lumina, and the year of the Buick, some modifications may have to be made, some fabrication may have to take place... In other words, maybe it will bolt straight in, or maybe not. Not enough info given for a clear answer

Yeah, tried that. It didn't work. In my van, those pins are jammed in tight as hell. Ended up bending the hell out of the 1st and 2nd screw, then the 3rd screw snapped off flush with the pin. I'd recommend the Grade 8, if one can find it (and thus far, I've not had luck in finding 8-32 in Grade 8)
