Nice vid, considering the eaton or yukon. Bearing caps are on backwards, arrows point towards the wheels.

Yeah, this was my first time messing with a diff. I've since gone back in, put a new gear set in, properly shimmed it and got my backlash and pattern proper, and made sure the caps were facing right lol. But it is quiet as can be now.

Man can i pick ur ear?, you seem to know alot and i just had a shop install mine on my 02 gt, i pulled the axel out and brought it to the shop i had them powder coat and install one of these and 4:10 gears with yukon 31 spine axel shafts, i get it back to the car bolt it all up nd wen i put the my dual caliber brake setup i noticed that on the passenger side the rotors are perfectly in-between the brake calipers but on the driver side the rotors are so close they are almost rubber my calibers somethings not right, i havent even broken it in yet, Advice?

Interesting. So I had a weird issue with my first set of axles, some fords (f150, explorer, a few others) have an ABS ring between the ring gear and differential. It's about 1/4, but that means if you have an 8.8 (like in my car) that doesn't have an ABS ring in the diff, then it will be offset to one side. For mine I couldn't even install my first set because it was offset enough I couldn't get the c clip on, and the other side looked okay but probably stuck out a hair. Had to order a different set of axles and the second set was setup for my my style diff and 8.8 and fit fine. I'm betting that could be what you're experiencing, maybe the shop clearanced an axle tube to make it "fit" but obviously it's not right

@@AllThingsBoost test drive? Did it work? Also good job on keeping the backlash the same, at 0.010" 👍

It definitely feels better, the noises the diff was causing are gone, but the solid lower control arms still transmit quite a bit of noises to the cabin. I thing I might go for a bushing design down the road if the rear seat delete and some sound deadening material dont quiet the noise down a bit.

I don't have the part number, but yes it is the one you listed. I have an updated video called fixing my gear whine, or something to that effect that goes into detail on installing the proper shims and setting backlash and all that. Much more info than this first attempt

Using the bearing race to press on the bearing can cause a flat spot on the bearing rollers - thus a possibility of causing noise and vibration that you will never find. That is a bad practice. Also - you installed the bearing cap up side down. The arrows on the cap always point to the wheel - this too, can cause a vibration... Not sure how precise you like to be - but any vibration in the drive line is not good... Just an observation, but all and all good video...

Thanks, I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to a lot of this, so I appreciate the pointers. I will probably revisit this as I'm learning more and make some adjustments and do new bearings for piece of mind. Thanks

@AllThingsBoost3 жыл бұрын
I actually really like it. My only complaint is I should have swapped out the crush washer on the pinion gear for shims, because it still whines pretty good, when you launch it slowly crushes that washer putting itself out of spec. I've had a bunch of 1.6 60ft launches and one 1.5 and its held very well, so all and all big fan of the diff.
