I see that you have 2 videos on the restoration for the A1. I was wondering if you posted additional videos of the project. I am in the process of restoring an A3.

What is the purpose of the binding? Is it just aesthetics?

It's aesthetics and protection for the neck/fretboard wood from chipping out or getting easy dinks. Some claim it's for playability too, and maybe if you prefer a sticky, non-sliding neck that is the case. If it was my choice, I'd only put on a binding if it was made from wood that you can give a satin finish like you could with a guitar without binding. With wooden binding you have a bit of leeway to repeat that process of sanding to satin compared to taking away material straight from the neck and fretboard. Then again, that amount is so miniscule that it doesn't justify the extra work or cash in most cases.

Looking for a tutorial on how to remove binding from my cheapo Les Paul. Guess an expert restoring a 1920 Gibson mandolin will have to do, lmao. Oh, the times we live in...
