After watching this video, I stuck a paperclip under the safety, and bent the paperclip into a loop. After that, I stepped on the paperclip loop and pulled hard on the lighter. This way, nothing flies away, you can control everything.

Thank you. Usually use bbq lighters but picked up Bic to carry with camping gear . Could not figure out why it was so difficult to use,they use to work so well. I'm a petite female with very small hands and this is one more "child proof " barrier I can remove from my life. Most children over the age of 8 have hands bigger than mine.

This comment is over 6 yrs late but I just removed a bunch of child safe guards from my Bic lighters. I have to quit smoking eventually but today is not the day. So, at least now I don't have to deal with that annoying guard on the lighters. My thumbs and patience thank you very much. I know this channel and video isn't about cigarettes but since this is in the future, 7/19/2020 at 4am EST, the law changed last year. Now people have to be 21+ to buy cigarettes. This happened on December 20, 2019 as per the FDA making this change. It's supposed to be a national change but 'enforcement' seems to be different in some states. I never thought I'd see the day where the age to buy cigs equals the age to also buy booze. I'm 50 yrs young so I really don't care about the law but if anyone reads this, please reply and tell me what the age is to buy cigs in your region of the world. it doesn't matter where you are, I'm just curious about where you are and what the age is. I'd just like to know out of curiosity. Florida, USA tends to be a bit retarded sometimes when it comes to new stupid law legislation. Feel free to also comment about the age to buy alcohol as well. I'd offer to reply to me via email, but I don't want to put my email address out there. I'm sure I'd get all kinds of wonderful emails but I don't think I want to be that popular. :)

This a great tip! The only tip I can suggest is prior to prying the safety off, sometimes it helps to lightly pry up the 2 small tabs that hold the safety in place near the flame side. On a couple occasions I have tried prying ONLY the safety and ended up breaking the bic. The chances of breaking it are very slim but when it did, the metal striker either got lodged down inside or it flew off randomly much like the safety piece does.

There is a much easier way of doing that! Pry from the hole in the lighter and then bend them back once you pry it off.

I find them discarded at a park.... pocket lint makes them hard to light. With a string light from behind, check if it has some butane in it.... if empty, discard. So remove the 'surround' chromed piece with needle nose pliers and then bend back the semi-circular child guard. It will lift out once bent backwards. Blow out debris with hard puffs of air (blow it out with your mouth) and reassemble. The pliers will close the surround piece and then you can slide it on. Check if the BIC will light up. Done.

i first used a flint lighter and then moved to a button lighter but honestly the flint one does create black marks on your fingers but when you light a flint lighter its a much better feeling for some reason. so my favourite are flint lighters

So I did this to one of my lighters that I dried out after going through the wash :( They USUALLY DRY OUT 100% after a few days depending how bad and the temperature I'm sure and the child safety part in the middle got contorted or something cuz it felt and look like the wheels would turn but NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED I COULDN'T GET THE IMPORTANT OUTER PARTS TO TURN when trying to light it, my finger just felt as if it was sliding out the middle metal part SO I TOOK OUT THE SAFETY but NOW on THAT PARTICULAR LIGHTER the wheel is SILENT even when rolling slowly (like not hard enough to light)- typically you here the like grind/wind whatever of the metal grooves but its a smooth turn now but I could barely get it to move before I took out the middle.... Nothing is loose on the lighter so its not as if I broke it in doing anything but I do not get how or why the lighters lighting mechanism like is disconnected completely to whatever it connects to INSIDE it crazy weird- 35yrs old and NEVER experienced THIS before! Especially NOT WITH A BIC- The clear lighters always screw up with their flame size changer and all LOL but this has me mind-fucked rn tbh haha I mean I have other lighters but it's just trippin me out I don't GET T plus it was MY PINK ONE!! MT FAVE!!! wahhhh! hahaa
