Somehow, I managed to miss the last 30 seconds of my own video! You know what's coming. Like and subscribe ❤😊

Touch in any paint loss on the bulkhead and give it loads of wax polish, much easier to keep clean and rust free if you can keep it clean allowing you to inspect any beginnings of rust.

The thing with minis is it is a car you will always be working on and this is from years of ownership. They are awesome cars but like a small child require lots of attention 😂 in saying that they are a car that will pay you back with miles of fun and laughs. Mini shows are a must and a great source of advice and inspiration for your own mini.

Yea I have to say for the whole twenty miles I've driven the car I've loved it 😂

Change the tie bar rubbers. Can get more firm ones to reduce engine rocking if you wish.

Replace the motor mounts and all of the rubber bushes - cheap as and easy to do. Maybe new earth strap too - may help elec issues. Someone has had a play with the hoses as you have silicone - bonus. Radiator looks iffy esp given the rusty water evidence. Thermostat replace at the same time cant hurt. There will always be a list of things to do - joy of a classic old car! ;-)

Thanks Toby. On the list.

The crank issue I think was just bad luck. I don’t think the seller could have predicted that and no inspection would have picked it up in my opinion. Happy to be corrected.
@RookieRestorationsАй бұрын
On that you are possibly correct. The amount of hidden rust...not so much.

The rusty water is just sand from when the engine block was cast, you will find that on pretty much every steel block engines, nothing to stress about 👍

That's good to know. Think I'll definitely give it a flush.

With a old mini it's always I step forward 2 steps back . The day you think its perfect. It will let you down

I'm happy with that ratio. I'd just like to stop moonwalking backwards 😂

Don’t beat yourself up, nobody would have spotted that clutch. The rusty marks on the subframe/rad is that it has been over heating - causes are - the rad’s knackered, thermostats knackered, water pumps knackered or possibly engine issues. I would 100% change the thermostat and uprate the water pump. Probably change or flush the rad. Whilst out, change crank seal, gear selector seal, maybe driveshaft oil seal. Basically if it’s leaking oil, change the nearest seal. 👍

Unless you have hydrolic suspension it is far easier to remove the whole front end, complete with engine, gearbox and radiator. It is also much easier to re assemble the whole thing out of the car. There is also far less chance of scratching or damaging anything in the process.
@RookieRestorations8 ай бұрын
Hadn't even though of that as an option Bruce. Will definitely keep that in mind.

Got a classic mini on west coast of Scotland as well, bought site unseen. Engine and gearbox been perfect for me, the body work not as great. Time to learn to weld for me 😂😂 Although the weather's been that bad here its only been out once this year.

Yea I feel your pain Paul. Although I've just woke up to sunshine. Time to get some jobs crossed off that list.

@@RookieRestorations aye, no doubt it'll be back to rain tomorrow. You'll love the roads in the mini up the west coast and Highlands, brilliant for such a wee car.

That rusty look appears that the previous owner must have been running water and not coolant...Should to a Red rebuild/ replacement..
