Today I removed the Insulation panel from the hood of my 96 ZJ. If you want this thing subscribe and leave a comment below.

I chased this very same problem for months. After replacing every sensor, and i mean every sensor, i found out it was the ECM. these are known for shorting out and causing engine stalls in these model jeeps. Going on 3 years strong, not even a hint of a stall anymore. Hope this helps. Love the vids bro, keep up the good work 👍

Most people decline to troubleshoot before starting to change parts. Any time I buy an old jeep like the 96 zj I drive now and I've owned a variety of them I run it for a couple of weeks and that's when the gremlins start coming out. I first troubleshoot then I isolate the problem until I am certain I know what part is failing. I have watched a couple dozen videos on heatsoak. Most of them suggest the same solutions and on most of them people are changing the same parts and trying to solve a problem without pinpointing it first. It turns out in most of the cases it's a different problem. People have tried changing fuel pumps, fuel filters. Have added a kit that raps around the fuel rail and injectors. Coil, spark plug wires, spark plugs, crank sensor cam sensor, cap and rotor and various other components such as radiators, water pumps, thermostats, air idler control valves and so on. Very few videos suggest starting by troubleshooting. Like I said before I have owned some zjs, xjs, cj5s and others and every time it has turned out to be a different problem. Some of them were computer issues, others were sensors, and on one it was a wrong temperature thermostat. Moral of the story is don't forget to troubleshoot and you will save yourself a lot of time and money. Keep on jeeping.

I do troubleshoot. However most of these things are very neglected. Parts need to be changed. It also creates peace of mind that I did it. The 96 is my off road rig. It needs to be dependable. I can't stall on the trail or out in the middle of nowhere especially with no cell service or anyone on the CB. So I throw money at it. Now the 97? I let shit ride. For instance, I was having evap issues and ran into a dead end. Then out of nowhere the light when off and the code was gone. You just don't know with these old Chrysler jeeps...

I own a '93 ZJ 4.0L and live in the desert of Southern Utah, where temperatures range between 105-115 during the summer. Although I haven't had any problems whatsoever with poor cranking after running it during the day, I did think to change the fuel filter. This is one of the most poorly neglected components in most people's vehicles and often does lead to fuel pump failure. Whether you changed the fuel pump in your ZJ by yourself, or especially if you had a shop do the repair for you, I really do hope that you changed the fuel 'filter' as well. When I removed mine, I simply dropped it on the floor and quickly installed the new one. It wasn't until a few moments later, that I noticed there was (what appeared to be) a lot of black 'silt' type dirt that had leak out of the filter. Picking it up and letting it drain, a LOT more came out. - - So, again - if you haven't changed that filter, please consider doing so. Running your tank close to the EMPTY range repeatedly will also cause fuel pump failure. And even the there's a PCM to control valve timing, a poorly adjusted distributor housing (advanced too far) will cause weak cranking / hard starts when your engine is at / beyond normal operating temperatures. As far as installing hood vents - I would advise against it. There's a lot of controversy here on multiple KZbin channels about front and/or rear placement because of aerodynamics at low vs. high speed. And seeing as how you live on the East Coast which is subjected to brutal winters and frequent rain - I could imagine water / snow / ice being an issue. Whether it's an inherent problem with the design of the 4.0L Jeep engine water cooling jackets, or a bad fan clutch, or a worn-out OEM plastic-vaned water pump, or the radiator, or even an improperly 'burped' cooling system - - Installing hood vents (in my opinion) are at the top of the list as the 'cheesiest' looking / non-essential modifications one can do to their Jeep ZJ or XJ. I've got a lot more to say on the subject of overheating in these vehicles, but will leave it at that. Hope anything I've mentioned helps you in any way possible and wish you the best of luck diagnosing and solving your current issues.

I don't think snow or rain should be and issue. I drive through deep water all the time. Water is getting under there. Whether it is rain snow or driving through a creek.

Did you change the fuel filter. It’s on the drivers side frame rail.

Mine is not. It's in the center of the rig right over the fuel tank on both rigs I own.

These just run hot. I live in FL and have the 5.2, I'm having a stalling issue only at low speeds. My transmission is a bit wonky too though.IDK the hell it is, she has 314k miles XD

Well, did you install the vent/vents into the hood yet? Did it help at all? Like to see the finished job if done! Wish I could help.

That project got sidelined when the Alternator and Battery went. If I don't get to it soon I might put it off until spring.

So I was having a what I would presume heat issue I removed the insulation and added vents which helped a lot because the ambient heat was so hot that the sensors and electronics I believe were malfunctioning

And it would die on me during the summer time I also have found out that it could also be my gas cap which may not be venting fumes properly
