I just received mine after a very long period of development. I am seriously impressed. This thing kicks butt. I too thought the company had gone away and asked for a refund over a year ago. Thankfully they didn't see the email, and I now own the best gimble system out there. I currently own a Feiyu 4GS and the immediate result is that the S1 kicks it's butt.

David Tilbury Still think it's great. Been skiing with it all season. Wear it on my helmet. It's a little heavy but the video stabilization more then makes up for that. You could get a chest mount too.

I got mine last mth via Indiegogo for my Hero4. The functions are great and with good finishing. The remote controller feature is unique and I love it! But it comes with 1 battery so I need to purchase the 2-battery pack at the same time. Nonetheless, it is a great product and no lies in the campaign (when I was cheated by other campaigns before!). Good work!

Great review. I am very impressed with the quality and versatility of the S1. It was so worth the wait. Removu really thought of everything and I do believe that the Removu S1 is the "Most Versatile Gimbal in the World." I am waiting for the Hero5 case but it works and looks great on my Hero4 Black. Seems well engineered. Pretty impressive feature set. I like that it is water resistant and the camera is mounted with a twist lock. Is it bad that I am concerned it looks UGLY as heck to me, like designed in 1989 ugly? I would need something that has the 360 Pan motor though. I don't like having to turn the handle around to point it at myself.

Thanks for this review. Looks very good and like you say some advantages over other gimbals. Not sure what the price in Europe in euros will be. How is the delay when turning/twisting the gimbal. I'm used to the old Steadicam JR + Gopro Hero 3+ where no delay is there when you do this. Does it react fast enough to make sudden moves/turns?

Thumb joystick’s hard edges and pips feel uncomfortable to my finger tips and it does not control tilt when in pan-mode (e.g. would be useful when climbing up/down a hill).

Is there a possibility to mount an external microphone to the gimbal and a Hero 5? Giving up the GoPro mount for the micophone limits the gimbal being not wearable in combination with a microphone (and dead cat). The Removu mic only works with the Hero 4.

To be fair they all work very similarly. All have great quality, silent, smooth motors and all create pretty much the same end result. Hence we need to consider versatility. I, for one, would rather have a unit I can do more with - mount to different objects, control remotely as well as in the standard handgrip design etc. Nowadays, versatility is key! Yes, its nothing new, but the wireless bluetooth, low power, remote, the build quality, and the overall robustness of the S1 really sets it out from the rest. In my opinion of course! ;o)

I know you've answered other gimbal comparison questions already, but I want to touch more on versatility: how do you compare the Zhiyun Crane-M with the S1? Both seem extremely versatile, but the Crane-M can handle mirrorless cameras, smartphones, and the GoPro (all of which I own). Apart from the water resistant build, are there other areas where the S1 prevails over the Crane-M? I'm particularly interested in build quality and ruggedness/durability. Thanks.

The Crane-M is a great piece of kit! I guess it comes down to your uses. Both have remote support via a remote and both are smooth in operation. Do you need to mount other cameras? Do you need the splash proof abilities of the S1? Do you need to mount the gimbal to other items etc? The S1 is certainly the most versatile (and cheaper) of the two. Although if you want to mount mirrorless cameras then the Crane-M is the obvious choice. Otherwise I'd go with the Removu!

There are some errors in this video - it doesn't come with two batteries (one only) and it doesn't come with a frame for the Hero 5.

It came with two batteries depending on which kickstarter campaign you went with. The video also mentions that the Hero 5 frame will be available as a separate purchase - not that it is included with the package. However, when available, Removu will be supplying different packages - one of the Hero 3/4 camera, and a package for the Hero5 camera - so you can choose which package to purchase. The extra battery will also be a package you can purchase.

I have a friend who has a UoPlay and his only CON is that you still get the up&down motion when walking. I couldn't tell from your video but how well does the Removu work what hand held and walking?

All gimbals will suffer from this due to the lack of a 4th axis to counteract the up down motion. It's down to a change in waking style. Slightly bending your legs as you walk helps.

i am a backer and i have discovered a problem with the gimbal. when you use the hero 5 you get audio noise but not on the hero 4 black. i also tested with video stab, off. i still get it. damn disappointing if you ask me!!!

The noise of Hero5 is because it's waterproof structure and Hero5 amplify the sound. You can remove the noise by setting Hero5 mic at "Windy Only" mode. Try it! :)
