Gotta head to work, but I thought I'd say I saw Ren's community post and link to Dotta's track, and I also saw the anti-Dotta disses. My impression (maybe wrong) is that a lot of Renegades are being very protective of Ren, because he's our "sick boi" and must be protected. BUT--Ren is also smart and a lion, having faced the Lyme beast for eight or nine years and come out on top. Ren himself said that he's going to have fun with the whole battle thing. So I think we can expect some interesting twists and turns, in a rollercoaster kind of way. (But there's nothing for the Renegades to worry about.) Already there's a little bit of drama going on, and I'm stoked to see where it goes.

Not sure how this honors the culture, Ren has soooo much going on right now, mostly with his treatments, and I'm not saying the man can't handle it, he more than can. But being put in a spot where he could look weak if he doesn't make a response track, or look like a douche if he destroys him too heavily, to a rapper that Ren is clearly leaps n bounds out of his league, is like telling the NY Yankees, that if they don't play Ohio's all state little league champs, then they hate kids with cancer. or some shit like that, ya know. That is NOT hip-hop or rap culture.
@heatherhobbit2931 Жыл бұрын
@@sunshynff um. So Ren challenged Dotta first. Their banter is out in the open for all to see. Diss tracks predate hip-hop, Muddy Waters and Koko Taylor had some beef back in the day. But hey, y'all should keep taking this ish so personally, acting like DOTTA and Ren are stepping into an actual ring or something. If you're truly a Ren fan, then do your research and get with the program. Unless Ren is secretly a bully, he wouldn't take on anyone he a) didn't see worthy; b) couldn't respect losing to; and c) he uplifts those he respects. Period. Ren and Knox BOTH literally built their very own careers on KZbin, just like the majority of these reactor/rappers. Slamming KING DOTTA for the same is futile. Yeah. Ren has had quite a heavy few years, don't you, as a fan, want to see him have some fun? He has a battling background. Ren asked KING DOTTA, publicly, not to drop the diss until after Murderer, DOTTA respected that. As for Knox. I've lost so much respect for him. He put out his diss track, calling out a long list of other yt rappers, none of them responded. Whether Knox meant to mention DOTTA or not, he's the one who slapped back. Freestyling and battling are the foundations of hip hop. Hell, house music started as a way for rappers to flow over beats, when not everyone had the equipment. Culture. When a white Welsh boh gets it more than those who revere him, well....🤷

@@sunshynff Ren isn't a rap god. He's an incredibly talented artist. Absolutely. I'm a huge fan. Bug I've been a fan of hip-hop and rap since 84. Not until Hi Ren, and unironically, reactors all over the world brought his numbers up, before you of I as followers. Y'all need to dance in the sunshine of some shit, loosen up. It's hip-hop, not wwe
@sunshynff Жыл бұрын
@@heatherhobbit2931....I never said Ren was a rap god, and I've been into hip-hop heavy just as long if not longer, I was singing Run DMC, Curtis Blow, and The Sugar Hill Gang songs in the shower before the Beasties even hit the scene in ' 82. If you think Ren is emo, much less "overly" emo, I don't think you know what emo is, and I know emo and former emo folks that would be insulted by that analogy...lol. I know what you're referring to with eyeliner and trendy clothes or odd fashion choices he goes with sometimes. That's a little bit just U.K. style that folks from the U.S. sometimes find quirky (I'm assuming you're from the U.S. like me, I shouldn't assume, sorry, correct me if I'm wrong though). Mixed a little with Ren's I don't give a shit what people think attitude. As far as his debut album Freckled Angels, I'm aware of when it came out, while I hadn't discovered him yet at that time, I did start getting into his music and catalog before Hi Ren dropped, and "reactors brought his numbers up" So let set one thing to rest here ok. Yes of course, Hi Ren was a huge success with reactors and they went bat shit over it, because it also brought them huge numbers, do you see what I'm saying there? Of course reactors helped boost Ren's YT numbers, and he's been EXTREMELY grateful to them and shown love by doing interviews and promoting their channels and what not. But lets not get it twisted here, at the very root of Ren blowing up, is the song Hi Ren itself, and the years of brutal pain and psychological mind fuckery he endured to come out the other side and write a song like that. Before finding a career as firefighter/medic, I was in a band, and worked at a sound recording studio part time for years, and music, either making it or producing it for others has remained a hobby of mine. I have seen grown men and women, that are far better musicians than I could ever imagine, people that have intricate knowledge of music theory and at the same time, know what it takes to make a hip hop or rock song, worthy of street level respect by the masses, watch Hi Ren for the first time, not as a reactor, as me showing them, and tear up, or just be so frickin' blown away they can't speak for 5 min. As a paramedic and someone with ptsd, I have shown this video to a plethora of mental health professionals leaving them in tears and/or mouths agape and speechless. With both crowds stating that this song will be studied and dissected in music theory classes and psychology lectures for decades to come. So forgive me if I don't chalk up Ren's success to "just some reactors blowing his shit up" Now while I stated I never said Ren was a rap god, which is true, if you bothered delving into his catalog, he's not just "able to do songs in many genres", they are top tier level songs in each genre he chooses to do them in. On top of that, he has a special place in his heart above most genres in rap and hip hop with tracks that are fire, going back to debut album and all around then. I am not saying he is better or worse than any top main stream rapper out there, I don't like comparisons in the first place. I will tell you this, he is a true student of the genre, he is a true student of the English language, he intimately has studied the genre of all things hip hop, when it comes to making the music, he understands it inside out, the alliterations, how syllables relate to each other, he finds pockets where there is none....that kind of stuff, not to mention his ear for a great beat, which he makes himself! He honors the culture, by staying true to old school hip-hop music, just dressing the part of a hip hop head, DOES NOT honor the culture or make you a good artist. In fact I would argue that hip-hop culture would dictate the opposite, what's become known today as hip-hop "fashion" is just that, fashion bullshit. Hip-hop dictated nothing, it was about blazing your own trail, making beats you couldn't buy at the record store, because the DJ made them up on the fly at the club the night before, ya know. So you can judge your rappers on how emo they are or not, or how crunk, or dope or fly their outfit is, but I'll stick, with judging rappers I like, on their ability to stay true to their craft. And Dotta ain't figured that shit out yet, that is why Ren is out of his league.
@sunshynff Жыл бұрын
@@heatherhobbit2931 ...Well you apparently are not a true student of hip-hop then if you think the foundation of it was battle rapping. Freestyling yes, and that is the only thing that I know of that Ren challenged first, was to do a live freestyle battle, he did not "challenge" Dotta first, from what I've heard, but I wasn't following that from the beginning. Now I'll give you that battle rap sprung out of hip-hop culture, but it was not the catalyst for hip-hop. Like I said, in my last comment, hip-hop sprung from the ferocious appetite club goers had for the newest and latest beat to listen or dance to, then wanting something new the next week, and DJs starting to use two turn tables and mix beats themselves on the fly, then improvising lyrics, taking a page from the spoken word lyricist of the time shortly before them. I've forgotten more about music and hip-hop than you've ever learned or acquired, so I'm fine on doing my research, thanks anyway. Listen, you can play this who did this or that first, or use the same ol tired line, "you just hatin' on so-n-so because you're on the other guy's tip" NO! I don't do that, and I went to Dotta's page before I listened to a single Dis in any of those involved right now, and I spent almost two hours giving his catalog a very serious fair listen. And one of my earlier responses directly to DOTTA, not behind his back or some shit, I said my peace and didn't think he was in Ren's league, I did say that I thought he had a lot of untapped potential and talent, but that seeking out beefs and battle raps, IMO, weren't working out for him, but did truly wish him all the success he seeks. Also just since you got this wrong too, if you wanna talk about the history of battle rap, it was face to face freestyle, that's how it started, and they shook hands afterwards like gentlemen, even if they refused to, they still looked each other in the eye out of respect. The modern day dis track sprung from REAL BEEFS artists had with each other, real anger, real spite, real insults. Dis tracks were not friendly or respectful or meant to be fun, they were meant to be insulting and put the other person in their place. If DOTTA can't handle the heat, get out the kitchen, and If you can't admit that last part about dis tracks is a fact, or If you think a mid level rapper at best, combing youtube for popping artist to create a beef with from behind their keyboards in order to get clicks is staying true to the culture of hip-hop, then you need to be stripped of your hip-hop head credentials.

I really enjoyed this review of the 2 "Diss" raps! From my perspective, I loved how Knox used the Stan stalker persona to deliver his diss, clever! I'm coming from an angle of only seeing battles in 8 Mile and The Voice! That is, zero expertise. I get your 50 Cents story, it truly is the game! The Money Game if you will. In non-music arena's, we see it in boxing re-matches. Even in my comfort zone music genres, UK had Blur v Oasis spat, turned out a win win for both bands. You could loosely say the same for Neil Young's Southern Man, answered by Lynyrd Skynyrd's second verse of Sweet Home Alabama dissing Neil for having the temerity to expose America's deep south links to slavery. BTW I get your "fence sitting" awaiting a Ren response, should it come!

Folks, I recognize some of those bars from a Flight of the Conchords comedic faux rap battle. I’m ready to call “use of Chat GPT” by Dotter-king.

Like Ren said in Knox's comment section "how do you kill a dead man"? Asking for a friend 😂😂😂😂 knox buried him, resurrected him, and buried him again.

I am 100 percent ren fan but I love this track and the diss’ shows how much this guy studied RENs work and life and it’s good. Rap battles is part of the rap game I think ren likes it some of the fans are taking it to heart

I don’t know one seemed cruel and the other seemed clever. I let you decide which was which. Thanks for reviewing this. It’s all so exciting for us newbies.👍💕🦇

Thank you so much for this unbias reaction. Respect. I have been loving this battle and the build up. It’s fun and exciting. I thought Dotta went a bit gentle on Ren but clearly I missed a lot, so this really helped to form a more educated opinion 🫶

Not sure if it’s been clarified yet but in the beginning he is on Michelleshow ad libs say “I can’t breath Eugene”

Thank you for breaking this all down, I'm not into rap or hip-hop culture so I defetly apreciate your neutral way of explaining all the bar. I'm defently a Ren fan and I'll be plz to listen to his response, not only can he rap but his level of knowledhe and literature is way over the top... might be some line that the Dotta won't understand ...
@Hayzelle Жыл бұрын
Dotta’s line about haymakers being slower that jabs would’ve been fire if any of the previous bars had actually been haymakers. They weren’t.

Why would anyone diss a beautiful being like Ren, it could only be to sponge off these great artists.
@ChrisLawton66 Жыл бұрын
Diss tracks and battle raps are a part of hip-hop culture. Ren is likely thrilled. After all he told Justin Hawkins he wanted a nemesis.
@brianbritton3693 Жыл бұрын
Ren did a pre-emptive strike by travelling back in time a year for Murderer and figuring Dotta would come at him and doing the double on the bar get your daughter/Dotta to eat it like a Toblerone bitch lol.

Ren, a time traveller, reading an HG Wells book while simultaneously writing a double about King Daughter 😂

Dotta- fairly decent rap diss. Knox-left Dotta in the burn ward. Ren-no response yet but we already know how vicous he can be to himself. All 3 are getting extra time out of this, with Knox getting some new respect for sure.

This really helped a lot. I am biased as Ren and Knox are my faves. But i am open to listen to others. Dotta isn't for me, however i am all for the creative aspect this is bringing. I hope they are having fun with it and KD gets what he needs from it. Reminds me of Eminem in the early days

I dont think the hospital flashbacks are about Ren's music videos, so much as a direct jab at Ren's life. If you didnt know, Ren is actively getting treatment for years of misdiagnosed diseases. Seems like a pretty low blow but that's rap I guess. I just want to know why he has beef with someone like Ren though. I mean what did he do? Ren just out here daily making people's lives better. 🤷♂️

Ok I just saw the part where you said it ain't serious and it's just banter between rappers. I can accept that.

Couldn't get into Dotta's (never heard of him before so whatever) rap. Just the rythym feels weirdly awkward to me. I'm not much into the slow rap and he sounds like he's struggling to breathe and shoehorn relevant song titles in. Just not anything I'd ever put on a Playlist for sure. Ren and Knox now, they got that bounce and speed. It moves ya feet. Dotta's plods along like cement shoes in mud. He seems like he could be better if he tried and maybe practiced some more. A LOT more practice to get anywhere near their level. Can't wait to hear Ren's response. It's bound to be something special. I know rap battles are just culture and nothing personal, but usually there's at least two of close talent and i just don't think Dotta is bringing enough to the table. Just my opinion, and everybody's got their own. 😊

Yeah, not feeling King Dotta flow.. Not riding the beat.. Like Anthony said, sounds more like battle than lyrical..

Sounds more like he is trying to fight the beat and force his lyrics onto it. Mostly I just find the guy’s flow and cadence boring.
