I LOVE the way songs transition through another, I'm such a nerd for it, its the main reason I listen to artists like Pink Floyd. I love when musicians make a cohesive album. Beyonce said herself that artists don't release albums anymore, just singles. You can tell this is an entirely cohesive album, ugh I love it.

Church Girl is a bounce song which is a specific genre of dance music from Louisiana, specifically New Orleans. Beyoncé’s mom is from Louisiana so she grew up listening to Bounce and several of her songs are inspired by it. Big Freedia is basically the Queen of Bounce that’s why Bey loves putting her on her tracks.

I had very mixed feelings with the first listen of this album. After just several days, it’s already in contention for my favorite Beyoncé album. I wasn’t sure about getting a vogue, house, disco, funk, dancehall album from Beyoncé. But it managed to sound risky, fun, fresh and unified.

@@kalmanta1824 Even within its risks, it’s was extremely streamlined and overtly calculatedly. While most of the songs still fit pop conventions. It was also a “serious album”. So, risk-taking is more expected.

Your reaction was everything! You got it in a way that other reactors seemed not to have with the house and ballroom references. This project is such a love letter to black queer art and expression. Just a few notes; Church girl is for the girls in the south who spend all night at the club Saturday night, and then come to church on Sunday to catch the spirit lol. It reminded me of my cousins from Arkansas, and a lot of black queer music has roots in gospel music so I thought it fit even though everyone might not get it. Also, I think I have another theory about why she chose to name this project renaissance. I think it is a nod to the Harlem renaissance which was an outburst of black queer art, music and literature in the 1920's. I think she is saying that is what we are in right now in 2022, and what she wanted to highlight with this project.
