I know this is a 2 year old video but I just learned about this channel and I feel the need to comment on the premium quality of its contents. Wild to think about the fact that the quality of the videos has only increased throughout the years. This is already as great as it is. Thank you for making this content available on a free platform. This may not be obvious but, folks.. we would have had to pay for this information, just a decade ago. Kudos sir.

I didn't lose weight and keep it off until I set up an environment that limited my access to sweets. I was eating four peanut butter cups, a chocolate bar, hot chocolate with marshmallows, a root beer, and chocolate ice cream every single day. I'm highly addicted to sugar. You know how I stopped? I don't bring that stuff in my house anymore. It was that simple. I have to go out of my way and drive to the grocery store to get ice cream and chocolate. That takes 30 min. That's a long time to come to your senses and have an apple instead.

I’m on the first leg of my journey and I just found this channel a few weeks ago. His content has helped me tremendously. I feel like I have clear direction and motivation, whereas before I was lost in a sea of misdirection and uncertainty. I’m so glad I have this information. I’m like a sponge. I’ve lost 13lb since JANUARY 1st. I’m doing resistance training 5 days a week and I’m on a strict clean diet. Zero junk, zero cheat days, zero breaks. I am finally taking time for myself after having 3 beautiful daughters. I want to show them that without health, you have nothing. I want to show them that taking care of your body is self love. I started my journey 90lbs overweight at 235. I am down to 222.2 this morning. I feel so motivated to keep going. Thank you for all the sturdy advice and giving it in a way that is relatable and enjoyable to listen to.

This is great. I've always wondered about who the major player is between discipline and motivation. His description of inspiration to give you the initial thrust, motivation to provide the slow burn of continued action, discipline to keep your action plan on track, willpower to be used as a tool during times of low motivation and mood, and habit forming the new road on which you will find it easier to walk: is extremely useful information. For the last 2 and a half months I've been eating healthy. Meaning very low sugar, whole foods (meat and veg/fruit), low or no processed foods, high fibre & protein, a variety of different foods and making sure to include salmon and other seafood twice a week. Including Mindful eating so no tv or phone etc. Walks after meals. Water with each meal. It was rather mentally tough in the beginning and took a lot of effort when I went shopping and decided what food I wanted to eat and cook. Now. It's second nature. I feel a hell of a lot better and lost about 10kgs without even trying. I've stalled now at the same weight for 2 weeks. So I'm thinking it's time for a diet. What he's been saying makes so much sense because I've been going through it with my eating habits and choices. It used to be hard. Now it's what I prefer. I see the junk food isle and I feel kind of ill. It's not hard at all to avoid shitty food. It comes with such a mental tax that it isn't appealing anymore.

When I want to cut, at most I need to drop 10-15lbs. So I've learned that I do better with a slower approach. A small deficit of 400 under maintenance 5x per week and two maintenance days. This works out to like 2lbs a month. So if I stay on point Jan-June then I hit my goal. It's way easier to adhere to. Especially implementing intermittent fasting and a few surplus days per month. Also cutting slower lets you train a lot harder and recover better. 💯

So I keep my protein at about 2.2 grams per Kg of B/W divided over four meals a day. I greatly increased my carbs and didn't gain weight. I greatly added an increase in fat and didn't gain weight. Unless we count 1Kg in two months. I've got a decent amount of muscle, years of training and am reasonably lean. I'm also very consistent with my diet and training. I don't cheat either. I have some gut issues like severe gluten intolerance that punishes me for cheating. I was literally eating until I was almost bringing it back up. So, I thought I'd try to drop 5kg in a month. Dropped all the simple carbs and cut out most of the fat, but kept the protein up. Two months now and I've lost that 1Kg. I'm 55 and my gut issues are relatively new. I'm also a powerlifter, so I'm not exactly an expert. I guess I'm still dialing things in.

If I would have known it was something I didn't choose and therefore out of my control, I would not have even tried dropping the junk food, eating less, and exercising - let alone getting my hormones right. Boy, for me in the last decade, habit has had far and away the biggest, most influential impact on my adherence. It has become remarkably easy to set weight goals and meet them with zero to minimal struggle and suffering, and it’s been amazing. Grinding through the early days of tracking calories, reading nutrition labels, measuring portions, and experimenting with meals and scheduling has been life-changing, and I’m glad I did it.

Gaining and losing fat all comes down to your day to day routine. U didn’t get obese after 1 day and u won’t get ripped in 1 day. U got fat by constantly eating junk food+ being lazy. And u will get lean by consistently being active and not eating junk food.

How do I motivate someone else? My mother has been obese for years and I have tried so many different things. Reverse psychology has failed. Worried for her health argument, failed. She just doesn't want to start a healthier lifestyle. She needs someone else that's not me to help her. I show her alternative meals that fill you and taste great and she just makes a mayo sandwich. Doesn't want to start exercise which is not uncommon. I tell her it doesn't have to be weights or running; you can walk, hike, do a tv workout, literally anything you find tolerable. I've introduced her to calorie trackers to help her stay on track more easily; doesn't use it. How do I help her get inspired and motivated? I'm out of ideas.

I came up with my own diet, it's called eat body weight protein in a calorie deficiency. I've been on it for 3 weeks and I've lost 10 lbs so far (245 now 235). I've also been lifting and making good gains as well. Must still be a beginner. I'm eating mostly quality food around 2300-2600 calories per day and I've even cheated to maintenance 1 day per week. I'm not hungry, I'm MOSTLY not craving anything...... besides donuts, ice cream and candy bars LOL. We'll see if I can get down to 200-205 and how long it will take. My motivation is: I'm tired of having a belly, I'm looking forward to body weight lifts going up, i want to see my muscles, I'm eating foods I love anyways and I'm stubborn.

One thing I would like to mention is that the best way to develop passion is through genuine interest in the subject. If you want to get passionate about something, like dieting, become interested in it! Watch informational videos, read articles, follow people involved in the community, etc. SURROUND yourself with the topic to the point where you are thinking about it constantly. Do this, and I promise you, willpower almost won’t even be an issue.

Apparently being a Mexican is really difficult if you're trying to diet... can confirm. tacos are literally the main reason i break my diets.

Thank you. I have listened to this video while doing cardio and completing my yard work. The latter usually feels like a horrible torture technique (Florida heat/humidity is no joke). Today, I was inspired and motivated to keep going to finish the episode and end with the boxing move and success roar. Thank you.

This is so clearly put out that I'm speechless, adherence is something I struggle a lot, not just in dieting but in other aspects of life, I'm grateful to Dr Mike for explaining it so clear and free of motivational bullshit. I'll share this with everyone! Thank you!

I truly wish more people would find Dr. Mike, RP, and their true selves. So many people have passed without even living life in a body that works like a effiencent machine. No idea how wonderful it feels to be fit.

I'm currently failing to drop weight but I'm recomping pretty quickly so that's nice I guess. I can't figure out how many calories I need with my very active job and end up feeling weak and dizzy 4 hours in if I eat much less than 3k calories

Calories can be confusing especially if you don’t know your maintenance calories. Calorie calculators are not that accurate so I think the best thing is to not starve yourself firstly 👍🏻 then keep an eye on the scales, weigh yourself every morning at the same time and if the scales are staying around the same number then that’s probably your maintenance. But yes it would be easier if you could just work out your BMR accurately

I'm 50 years old and have maintained almost the exact same weight (72kg) my entire adult life. Pretty sure I was fat-phobic. This year however, I've gone for a bulk...gained a good 15kg and despite it feeling awful stuffing food down my trap all day, I'm enjoying the weight. Gains are fantastic too!! Cut might suck, but I don't care.

I've been so many times in a place when I would count calories and feel great, I'm not hungry, love my healthy food and think I could go like this forever, just to give up 2 weeks later. I thought it's the calorie counting that was so daunting, so I tried some other methods of restricting calories and none of them worked. What I was missing was the mental fatigue of dieting and the knowledge thatjit is going to come. Now I do light diet resets when I feel tired and like I don't want to weigh any more cottage cheese andjI am upping my calories by 200 kcal for about a week. A then continue. Works like a charm.

What was completely mad about watching this was realising that the reason I’m doing well this time (my second time going all in on diet and fitness) was that I had all the various aspects aligned (inspiration, motivation, habit etc). It showed me why I failed the first time (at the height of the pandemic, when inspiration and particularly motivation were in short supply!) If you’ve failed once, there’s always a fear you’ll fail again. But watching this I recognised that I’m already in the habit phase and have aligned everything properly, the lack of which was why I wasn’t able to stick at it the first time. Really great video, thank you!
