I'm a stage 4 cancer patient and my doc said that trt has been a huge benefit in keeping my body strong during treatment and surgery recovery. the comment i hear all the time is "you don't look like a cancer patient" ive been able to stay active and keep exercising. I have 2 more rounds of treatment and then its "surveillance mode"

That's very interesting. Many would likely assume that TRT would tend to speed up proliferation of cancer cells. But I guess that isn't necessarily the case. Or at least not always the case. And I do have to wonder, after seeing how chemo can ravage people's bodies, if TRT's ability to stave off some of the catobolic effects of chemo might actually be helpful in some cases. Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope you're able to pull through this very difficult situation.

I have been using synthetic testosterone for over 30 years. I have used tablets, trans-dermal patches and trans-dermal gel but recently began injecting one ml of oil every two weeks and the difference is amazing. Finally putting on muscle at 52. I'm very active and now my recovery is incredibly quick. Never felt better in my entire life. Ditching alcohol is the next best thing I've done.

A urologist put on testosterone replacement when I was 50. I am now 79. I am given a injection every three weeks. I suffer from fatigue because of Multiple Sclerosis. As I get to the end of the three weeks I can feel myself getting very tired and listless. After the injection it can take up to two days before I am happy and jovial again. The injections also improve my libido. But not as much as they used too. It is time for me to get my testosterone levels checked again. I highly recommend other men do the same thing. Testosterone is not a magic bullet. But is a big help. All the other things. Such as smoking, exercise etc do make a big difference. Thank you Dr. Rena. A excellent video.

I've been on TRT for the past 10 years and it has made a dramatic difference. I've had zero negative side effects other then testicular atrophy which my doctor prescribed a peptide when first noticed and they swelled back up to normal size. My wife noticed a difference in my mood/libido within a couple of weeks and it has remained the same just like I'm still in my twenties. I think the TRT therapy is good as long as addressing what's causing low testosterone, not just in men. Yes, the fact remains women must have some levels of testosterone in order for estradiol to work. The trend is getting worse because of diet that we been told to eat, all government putting in additives in our foods. The general public does not know most people men and women that need TRT treatment is at an all time high at 89% of the American population because there is untreated underlying health issues. The sad thing about it most of these people have higher LDL Cholesterol and impaired fasting glucose levels, I simply won't call it type of diabetes because it's not! The biggest things is giving someone a low dosage of a long acting insulin such as Lantus, over a short span of treatment say: within 1 month testosterone goes back up, LDL goes down with an increase of HDL,

After a month of TRT my doctor asked me how I felt. My best description was, "It's like somebody cleaned the windows." You never realized they were dirty or dingy because they got that way over time. Then suddenly, you see clear through them. Yes, there are times that the labido kicks in like I am eighteen again. That can be a little frustrating when your partner is not feeling it too. Then there are those days when the partner is feeling it too. So just like normal life, it all balances out. All in all, a TRT was a good choice for me Shots two times a week.

34 yr old male here. I went to my general and during a physical and asked to have my T tested. I kind of lied to her and said that I just want to know what my level was so I could have a base line. At that point, I was napping multiple times a day and basically didn't really care if I had sex or not. My levels came back at 324 ng/dl. When I said, that seem really low for a 33 year old male. She said, it's within the normal range, so we don't need to worry about it. When I expressed some concern, she said that dr. used to over prescribe testosterone and that it caused more problems than it fixed. That's the sad state of general medicine in this country. I ended up going to a clinic, because I knew they would give me a prescription. I have to pay out of pocket because I am above 300 ng/dl, which is crazy since the vast majority of 30 yr old males will be north of 500 ng/dl. I hope your field of doctors makes some serious changes to bring awareness and research to this. I've been on hrt for about 12 weeks now and it's great. I feel like I am 20 again.

It's because it's all driven by insurance and insurance doesn't want to pay out. I had my yearly physical last month. I explained to my GP I was feeling tired, run down, no drive, no ambition, low libido, joint pain, angry, agitated, and I was was having problems getting or keeping an erection. She ran a bunch of blood tests, including my testosterone level. It came back at 196. She referred me to a Urologist and Sexual Health Specialist. Insurance states 200 - 800 NGDL is considered normal. Insurance also required multiple blood draws, done prior to 9 AM and if any of them come back above 200, "no Bueno". They won't cover shit. My 2nd blood draw came back at 166 overall with 3.1 free test, 36 SHBG, 71.0 Bioavailable Testosterone. My 3rd came back @182 overall with 3.2 Free, 36.5 SHBG, 72.0 Bioavailable. She also ran a million other tests including FSH, TSH, Prolactin, Estradiol, Liver Panal, Iron, Hematocrit, PSA, and a bunch more. Because all 3 total testosterone levels were all below 200 NGDL, my insurance will cover my TRT and Cialis/Viagara for life. She's starting me on 100 MG's of Test Cypionate tomorrow, once a week with additional blood draws to adjust dose in 6 weeks. While going through any of the thousands of TRT Clinics would be more convenient, and I could probably persuade them to get my levels higher, between 800 - 1000 NGDL, it would also be all out of pocket and they wouldn't be watching my health as closely with regard to prostate exams, PSA tests, etc.... So I'm going to try this through my local doctor / hospital system and see how it goes. I suppose if it gets to be too inconvenient, or they get me to 350 - 400 NGDL and say "you're in range now. No higher", I can always pay out of pocket and go to a TRT Clinic.

I'm 72 years old and put testosterone gel on myself everyday and it did miracles for me. I started having problems and wanted to figure it out. I gained two inches in my waistline and for the first time my belly overhang my belt ( they tell me I had a "muffin top"). I was tired a lot of time. I had also noticed about 4 or 5 months before that my semen was less or not at all and erections pretty much stopped happening. I had been to a urologist for my slightly swollen prostate and my testosterone fell in normal range. I Googled my symptoms and somehow it came up with probably a testosterone problem. My psychiatrist prescribe testosterone jel for me diagnosis ED. I feel 20 or 30 years younger. I haven't really abused my body and I enjoy sex. About 45 years ago I gave up cigarettes, cakes, candy, alcohol, some fatty foods, and lately all sodas and ice-cream. Overall I do eat well. And pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms 3x a week and a "overstuffed roast beef Hoagie with Lorraine Swiss lettuce tomato and onion also 3x a week. After applying the testosterone gel for about a 3 month period, I felt much better: my muscles were stronger and I felt more self-assured and knew that I could depend on my body and my muscles to do what I needed to do. My anxiety level really decreased and I feel happier than I have for probably 30 years. It's improved my thinking and it's also helped my prostate. I see other people in the senior building that I live in who are falling apart. Old age is especially hard on the women who often become very bony or very fat. But the men around me...to many are dropping off into oblivion. Diabetes, heart trouble, cancer etc. I've tried to explain but no body is going to accept that their testosterone might need a boost...it's about biology for me but to them it's like a personal insult to their masculinity!! Some times you've got to let go..... Me, I'm a very happy camper 😀👍🔥 filled with appreciation and gratitude🙏!!! I do take other medications moderately : vitamins, L-Arginine and l-citrulline, I've had two heart operations and I have a pacemaker defibrillator so medication for that. I was caught in an underground fire my lungs are damaged and I had pulmonary medication for that but since I've taken the testosterone I have no problems breathing... no allergic reaction to pollen or Ragweed or anything. I take a few unmentionables to but In not reckless..... I love being functional.

@keithgraham9547

Your urologist or PCP can probably prescribe testosterone. In a tropical solution, it would be a bittle with a pump. Perrigo is one manufacturer. Each pump is 30 mg, and you can do one to four pumps a day. You rub it on your underarms. My t-levels have usually been in the "low normal" and I didn't use it often. There seems to be correlation that if you have prostate cancer, "high normal" t-levels increase the rate the cancer cells multiply. Your doctor should do regular blood tests to measure not only t-levels, but PSA. I had a bout with skin cancer this year, and was taking very little testosterone. My last blood work had low t-levels, but also elevated PSA for the first time. I've had two full PET scans this year, so that was a surprise and have moved up urology appointments. With the liquid, you can self-control what kind of dose you take.

Just a note here. Back in 1989, my 89 year old grandfather was in the hospital dying from old age BUT...some doc found that he had(coupled with old age) prostrate cancer and recommended that removing his testicles would decrease his testosterone. He said that testosterone is like gasoline on a fire regarding the cancer. Testosterone makes if spread quicker. I told the doc to chill and let him go in peace. At least he'll have his manhood in heaven. Personally...I think the doc was looking for another payday.

Just got tested again... 1387 total and 28.2 free. So now I have dialed it back to 40 mg twice a week. My doctor wants me to keep it around 800. I sleep better, I have gained strength in the gym, I have more energy... and while age hasn't had an effect on my libido, the testosterone has had me waking up with wood like a teenager. Your vids are very helpful and informative, Im 55 yo, I've been on TR injections, about .75m once a week, self administered at home, been working out fine for me, also take a little clomiphene once and a while, it all helps w more energy, reduced stress, better labido/drive and prolonged sleep. About 7 years ago, i also did the T tablets surgically implanted in the hip/upper thigh, and i had great success over next 6 months in raising my t levels back about 550-600. That lasted few years, although it was recommended have them implanted once to twice a year. i only did one treatment, and i might return to that procedure as it's a fairly longer term solution to weekly injections. So TRT is an extremely important therapy for us older guys, and i came to that conclusion as i watched my father age and pass away a grumpy old man from what i saw was low T. This is a world that steals your life and vitality without reservation, but if you invest in yourself and some therapy, it can be reduced.

After reading a few comments, I no longer think that my 5+ years of Dr. prescribed TRT is very substantial. TRT has changed my life for the better in many aspects, with the only side effect being reduced seminal volume or infertility. At 49, this is not an issue, maybe a beneficial side effect. I am glad this interview was made available, it absolutely confirms my experience and self research, and clarifies many of the misconceptions that even MDs have. A key step for me was getting my insurance carrier to approve and pay for it. I have had a similar experience to the one described trying to get HCG; BCBS will not approve it even if you know how to manipulate off label to on label use. There are other means of boosting testosterone, but me and all the gym rats agree, legit pharma grade testosterone cypionate injection is the most effective and safest way to go. But remember, you still have to eat right, live right, and exercise. It is not magic. I think TRT made the most difference by making me actually want to go to the gym, and live my life fuller.

Thank you for this. I was diagnosed with T2D two years ago (alarming A1C at 12%) and worked very hard to fix it ASAP, as of a year ago I lost 80 lbs and got my A1C to 5.4%. With the immediate danger of glucose and cholesterol under control, however, I started experiencing something else that was quite concerning: I was getting extremely moody and severely depressed, even suicidal, had trouble sleeping, concentrating, and hit a hard wall to lose any more weight (I'm 5'8 and got stuck at 200lbs, so I still have 30+ to lose). My doctor tested my T levels and found them quite low ~ 100 (@ 38yrs old). I was afraid of TRT because, well, I don't really know, it was just a big unknown to me. I resisted it for another 6 months but finally came around and it's been life changing. Everything is better: Sleep, mood, energy, weight loss, gains from resistance training. Most importantly I've been a much better dad to my kids as of late. Basically, I'm me again, and it's good to have me back. I had no idea hormones could cause such havoc; I had always believed that I was in complete control. Keep putting out good content and spread good messages!

Well, I appreciate the information. I retired from the military a couple years back, I am 53, keep myself in great shape but a year ago or so I started noticing my performance starting to slip, I was assigned a nice doc in the VA and asked her about TRT, she gave me the same old spiel about how dangerous it was and how she had seen other guys getting TRT and then coming down with prostate cancer. Guess I need to find a new doc.

I found it interesting that they only mentioned getting blood drawn once. I have been on TRT for several years and on my 3rd physician overseeing my progress. The first one never mentioned the need to “donate blood”. After 8 months of therapy, my primary physician referred me to a hematologist because I had “sticky blood”, elevated red blood cell count. This can lead to stroke and other cardiovascular issues. I now donate every 4 months and haven’t had an issue since. Donating blood is important for males regardless of TRT. Is like an oil change for us. I can’t stress enough, the importance of it. Highly recommend!

Thank you for this nice and informative interview. I am myself a urologist but in another field so my knowledge in this is limited. I read articles and watching interviews of other professionals and seems that everybody agrees in two points. 1, Even if you are in the low- normal range of testosterone you can have symptoms of low testosterone. 2. TRT is a safe procedure. Despite those informations and despite the fact that I have all the symptoms except low libido and ED and a low - normal total testosterone and a free that is 1,4 % of the total, I haven't started yet with TRT. I try with sleep ( not easy)and gym and healthy eating and tongas Ali etc but honestly I still feel not myself. Starting TRT means that in order to have the effect you have to take it all your life and this is what stops me from starting since I am 57 years old. But still as Dr. Clavell said ( and it is a good statement ) the question is how do you want to age? I think I will give it a try. Thank you again.

I don't want to dispute anything these two doctors have said, but the fact is we do get older. And that does mean things will eventually stop working as well as they used to. Mental outlook is a big factor, so learn thinking patterns that will help you avoid depression. While getting grumpy does happen to some people, much of that is because they were crabby all their lives. The way we think and react to life's challenges is ultra important because hard times are going to happen no matter who you are. And they will happen all through our lives. They are not something you can avoid, they are actually meant to happen to make us resilient to them. It is how God designed life to be. Ignore negative people's comments, don't respond to their snide remarks with your own snide remarks, and if possible lend them a hand mentally if they will respond positively to your help. "Don't curse but bless" is the apostle Paul's directive here. Otherwise don't involve yourself with them if they won't change, any further than is necessary for your own life or work. Dwell on the positive and beautiful things in life and life will be a much happier experience. Testosterone shots can only do a finite amount. I'm 65 and these are some of the truths I have learned in life.

Statins lower ldl levels so there is less of a chance of clogging of arteries. Just watch out for muscle aches and inflamed liver that can happen on high dose statins. Hormones work slowly, over time, and affect many different processes, including growth and development, metabolism - how your body gets energy from the foods you eat- sexual function, reproduction, and mood. Hormone are like the fluid levels of a cars engine. Its the FIRST thing you check when diagnosing engine problems right? If a cars overheating, you first check the radiators water level right? If the engines knocking, you check the oil.

Note, I maintain a healthy body weight, exercise, eat mostly vegetarian diet, eat chicken and/or fish a few times a month. The men in my family have no history of prostate problems. I have major testicular atrophy which is distressing. My sex drive is relentless on T to the point of being antagonizing. If I had the potency of a 20 yo it wouldn’t be a problem, but like many older guys, my ability to perform contributes to nagging sexual frustration. I do have to watch mood swings. If I could go back, I’d never would have gone on TRT. I tried coming off but my T levels dropped to around 90 and lost all energy, (normal is between 200 to 1100).

As far as the heart goes... My cardiologist is retired from the Mayo Clinic with 35 years experience and he is the one who told me it has nothing to do with my heart and to keep the level around 800 and I will be fine. The ONE thing you have to watch is your hemoglobin levels... which can be helped by dontaing blood.

Great video! TRT for 16yrs now test cyp. More men and even women should check their levels if they don’t feel good. Ditch the anti depressants.

I had blood work done a few years ago because I wasn't feeling quite like myself... The results were had test levels in the 260 range... The endocrinologist canceled my upcoming appointment saying I was within normal levels and didn’t help me.

I had extremely low T level (less than 150). Since starting TRT (with Hone) I feel normal now. Energy level is back, erection in the morning returned, depression under control, life is much better 😊

I got thrombosis around a month after starting testosterone therapy. Years ago when I was not on testosterone I had my first thrombosis. I think testosterone was that increased my haematocrit and haemoglobin that may resulted my second thrombosis. If I use higher dose from testosterone gel I have higher haematocrit and haemoglobin levels. I may need regular veinsection haematologist said. So I’d say testosterone therapy besides it’s huge pros has some backsides as well. Take care about your blood-results, choose an endocrinologist you trust.

Seeing this video and your others have given me hope that maybe my constant fatigue, depression, brain fog, lack of sex interest, could be something that can be alleviated possibly. I have had many tests for energy, been on antidepressants for years and just assumed this was my life now. Am following up with my Doctor for blood tests, thank you Dr Malik for your videos giving me a little hope.

Definitely get testosterone levels checked. I've been on it for 12 weeks now and I feel 10 years younger. Caution though, it can take 6-12 months for some people to notice the energy increase. If it is low T, I hope it's really low, that way insurance will help pick up the cost. It isn't crazy expensive, but over the rest of your life it's a lot of money.

Similar boat, but I would say you should be getting counselling too. A good counselor combined with medication can make all the difference. T may or may not be your issue and you can't hide from your demons...you need to face them head on.

I’ve been on and off antidepressants for years because I feel like they never worked and my psychiatrist recommended I get hormones checked. Turns out my T was at 180 and I’m 28 years old! Going to see a urologist soon and hopefully can get answers finally.

I’m taking zinc, pumpkin seed oil, pygeum (just started), and saw palmetto. I know it’s a lot but they are naturally derived therapies. If anything if they don’t help BPH and cum force then they are good for something else.

There are a couple of things he didn't get deeply into that I have noticed. It's on the heart risk. If you use large doses you will drop your HDL and increase your LDL. Blood pressure also goes up. There's your heart risk. Now if you use a normal replacement healthy dose. Like my testosterone is at 620ng. My HDL actually improved. Blood pressure did still go up a little bit though from when I was low. 120/75 but that was closer to 110 over 70 before I started. For someone with high blood pressure this could be a consideration. Maybe it is the increase in red blood cells? I'm not sure but someone with high blood pressure this could be an issue worth keeping an eye on. Other than that all positive results. Sleep is better. Endurance is better. Brain clarity is better. I feel younger in a nutshell

It would be very beneficial for you to go more in depth on the different types of TRT. I have been on AVEED for over 5 years and it works wonderfully for me. It is a slow release testosterone therapy. I get an injection once every 10 weeks. I didn’t do well on the weekly injections as my T levels varied drastically. I heard there are pellets as well. Drs, what are your thoughts on slow release pellet TRT? Thanks so much for this informative video.
