In todays video we have not one, but TWO megane MK4 trophys... and we're putting them head to head to find out how much a simple remap does for performance, and to make things even more interesting, the standard megane is also MANUAL.
We will be putting the cars through their paces in 3 tests... 0-60's, 1/4 miles and roll races...
SO its EDC vs MANUAL, REMAPPED vs STANDARD...

Interesting comparison on manual vs auto. It is a shame both are not on the same playing field in terms of tune, however its clear that the manual looses significant ground when changing gear, and this is very evident on the side by side. My 300 Trophy is a manual, and don't get me wrong I love it, but I do wonder if the EDC might have been a better option. Whilst I prefer a manual for 'driver engagement', I do often think the EDC might be better from a 'non pro' driver point of view allowing you to keep more focus on the driving rather than having to deal with the extra task of changing gear. The manual needs a bit of heat in it I found. 1st to 2nd when cold is a little crunchy and you can really tell in winter, but once its got a bit heat in its fine. I note the 2nd to 4th crunch - I had this in my Nissan Pulsar 1.6DIG-T. Nissan just said 'that's not the way the gearbox should be used' and told me to go away. I dare say this is some sort of design issue but cant say I have noticed it in my Meg.

Appreciate you checking out the video dude, and as for this concept tommy (the owner of the manual) will be coming back on to do this again when its mapped so we can really see the difference the box alone makes. I added roll races in to try and take the gearbox out of the equation as much as possible but in the 0-60's and 1/4 miles there was obviously going to be a large difference in times. I did cross reference my old times after tommy did his runs so you could see standard manual vs standard EDC before i did my tuned runs, but there will be more tests like this coming, its just sourcing the cars and planning meets which are the tough part. I think you hit the nail on the head, with that 1.8 litre engine, 4 wheel control I think the EDC option is probably the better bet, allows you to focus on getting the best out of that rear steering..

I wouldn't want it mate, the pano roof is cool but you don't get all the black headliner and interior with it

Maybe do a comparison between the face lift and preface one and see where Renault have cut there production costs but are happily charging more. No ambient lighting in rear doors, no adaptive cruise control, no blind-spot monitoring, no park assist. Obviously a few of those would have been options but now they aren't even listed to choose. Only options now are wheels, interior trim and sunroof. There may also have been a lane assist option where now it's just lane departure warning as standard - which is a waste of time as you're already on or across the line before it alerts you.

@SPORT300-UK Just shows how fickle Renault are, when I ordered mine adaptive cruise control wasn't an option now it is and according to the brochure RS monitor isn't available on RS300 and is an option for the RS300 Trophy. Where as it came standard on my 300. I suppose they fit what they have at the time, annoying though.

The 0-60 is a game of traction mate, when its hotter here i think i could dip into the 4's, but it was 3 degrees on this say and we just had to roll with it. Good times though mate, really close to my standard times!

I'll look into setting that up mate! Not alot of people have modified these cars yet and trying to source the vehicles can be a challenge, but as i had a modified EDC i only had to source a standard manual, but i'll look into doing the video the other way round for sure! And i am in talks with the owner of this car and he will be coming back when its mapped for a rematch 😂 Thanks for checking it out!

@@VersionOneUK I’ve been all over google and the 2 that keep coming up are, driving assistance (which isn’t anywhere on my system) and keeping hold of the ‘ok’ button until I assume something pops up and switching through until it comes up but no matter how long I keep hold of ‘ok’ nothing happens. It’s killing me 😂

The manual is faster in the top end standard I've seen them doing runs on autobahn, The edc seems to pull alot less after 60mph i.e 0-120mph 22secs compared to the manual 18/19 seconds not entirley sure why.

Done more vids on the channel regarding reliably and day to day use mate, but I've had the car almost 2 years and other than one warranty recall its been solid as a rock

I think people get too caught up on the numbers. No way this car can be pushed to its limits on 99% of public roads we would be driving on, so may as well enjoy the manual. Driving auto seems much less interesting.

Agreed mate alot of people do, but as a creator you have to appreciate its the only safe way i can show the viewers the difference in performance as racing on the streets is highly risky especially if you're filming it. As for the gearbox it all depends what you're after... The megs my daily and I've only ever had manuals besides my last car and this one, and I don't miss the manual one bit for daily commuting and driving... Its smooth, quick, and responsive. Some people just prefer manual and thats fine but does the GT3 Porsche become less of a car because of its PDK? Sales value and popularity says otherwise, i think there's ALOT of negative stigma towards an auto box, especially from people that haven't experienced a good one, maybe on a track a manual may be more engaging but for the average consumption you can probably drive quicker with the auto, both hands on the wheel.

@@esthetics4512 in an ideal world mate i'd have manual for weekends, auto for daily... But the autos are are so good now the shifts are just 👌 Also... I've only ever had 2 autos and i grew up playing gran turismo and forza etc so having paddles in my own car is fun 😂 Big kid i know, but i enjoy driving either mate and if the cara good enough it won't matter if its manual or auto 👌👌

Yeah i had quite a bit of wheelspin due to the weather, i did explain in the video it was 3 degrees at the time of filming so grip was an issue. I would need to re-run when its not so cold

@@Laguna2kai like i said in the video mate, the weather had a big part to play in times, unless your car was there on that day too we'll never know. The MK3 seems to have more straight line speed (I've driven plenty) and this test was done to put a standard mk4 against a modified mk4, not to be compared to the older generation. @SPORT300-UK its interesting you should say that... Mine made under claimed figures before mapped. After my tune came out with 320bhp and 360(ish) ft lbs, the EDC's party piece is not having to let off between shifts, you can see how much time tommy was losing on the shifts where i could just stay in it... We'll be re-running this video back when he's also running a tune so keep an eye out for that!
