Another quality repair there Dave I have one of those Gates sonic tension meters which I bought over ten years ago used it regularly at the time you inputted the gates belt no into the machine then held the microphone near the belt on its longest run then gave it a twang it has a traffic light system which when the tension was correct you get the green for ok can’t remember when I last used it not really needed now but a nice bit of kit anyway.

Followed you video today to change the crankshaft seal and after doing the van I forgot about the tension moving the camshaft back one tooth so soon as I turn the key I knew it wasn't right so took it all back off and noticed the locking key you used was the silver one however that doesn't lock in and moves out of position and it's actually the black key which has a threaded end and screws into the engine hole. Anyway perfect video with good instructions and information cheers 🍻
@davesterl2 жыл бұрын
Yes there are a couple of different types. Some fit into a slot in the crankshaft(silver pin) and some press against the crankshaft web and need to be screwed in. That's why there are different pins in the kit

Fantastic video Dave I'm a technician myself and love watching other guys work, on my van after fitting a new timing belt the alternator clutch seized up broke the belt, and went under the cam cover and put the van out of timing, this was 6 months after so possibly worth fitting a new clutch to the alternator while replacing the belt.

Fantastic detail on an important job to get right👍 just not over the moon about stripping half the van apart to get to it 🤣 it seems like most jobs on these vans require the front off🙈 more complicated if the van has Air Con I suspect.

Dave another great vid I belive that device ya torque to 11nm is to remove slop from the belt I'm fair sure a few tugs on the belt would do the same and I'm gunna seal your idea with the tensioning by using the hertz app were meant to use a similar device in work for tightening timing belts on machines but it's allways missing

Great video, loved the detail and explanation. I need to do my head gasket, water in the oil and feels like the engine is partially locked up when starting? Bit of moisture in the cylinder? Second good battery hooked up got her started. ...... Wish me luck. Anybody know the torque settings and pattern?

thanks for your video. If i mark the tension out now on the cogs, does that mean a new belt can be fitted if the old one snaps? will marking out like you have done prevent a write off or huge cost?

Doing one of these belts as we speak but having a lot of trouble getting the belt on! I've got the lines on the belt lined up properly, tried getting it on in different pulley orders but it just seems as though it's too small (even though it's not), am I doing something wrong? Tensioner is all the way off too 🤔

Yes, it is not clear what you are saying due to the poor grammar and misspelling of your posts. I will answer your questions, the meter is reading frequency in hertz not decibels. I think you are confusing the two. I have changed hundreds of timing belts and chains on an array of makes and models of cars and vans. If you wish you can check some of them out on my channel in the playlists. You might learn something instead of posting insolent comments
