To be fair, while the movie still probably would have sucked, you have to remember that The Last Airbender was released in 3D. Making a movie in 3D adds a LOT OF money to the budget. Depending on whether the 3D was added in post or if the movie was meant to be 3D from the start, making a movie 3D can as much as double it's budget. If it was initially shot in 2D and was made 3D in post then it's a little bit cheaper. So if it was a 2D movie and it had a $150million budget, the effects for the bending might have looked a lot better (assuming that Shyamalamadingdong didn't screw it up in some other way).

As much as Rathbone (Sokka) sucked, he WAS a fan of the series. He said in interviews when he accepted the role that he wanted to play Sokka to break his typecast as a stick in the mud and play the goofy genius that Sokka in the show was. He knew who Sokka was, but much like with Wahlberg, Shamalyan just broke him.

If you look at the gag reals, he ACTUALLY is a good sokka when left to his own devices. But under direction..... To be completely fair, shamalyan started with a GOOD script, else the show creators wouldn't of approved it (they were VERY strict on that). The behind the scenes detail the process and.... Yeah. It's safe to say, the process broke them. It broke all of them.
@zacharykim2955 жыл бұрын
@@danielwilson8604 shyamalan wrote the script tho?
@danielwilson86045 жыл бұрын
@@zacharykim295 true. But the script was revised constantly via orders from above his head, doing things like cutting off a half hour, changing dialouge and actors etc. Which ALSO meant scenes had to be re-shot a lot and the actors didn't want to put any wasted effort in, among other things. There's an interview about the process that describes it in detail.
@bartsimpsonyellowmenace37805 жыл бұрын
To be honest it would have been better if they had switch the roles of Rathbone with Zuko actor. That Zuko actor was more of Sokka than Rathbone was. And Rathbone was more Zuko than the actor they used. Shaymalan is an idiot for changing their race. I know firebenders actually are asians but seeing change a race to indians to western cinema is even more weird.

It's easy to blame Mr. Shyamalan for the final result. But to be fair, there was more than just him: - Producers trying to change a lot of things. - Constantly changes of the script - Nepotism (The actress of Katara was chosen because is the daughter of Nelson Peltz, a powerful person with a lot of contacts.) - Casting chosen by producers (Imagine that, for almost a moment, every character would be pure white americans!) - Zero control about editing (30 MINUTES WERE CUT JUST TO RENDER THE MOVIE ON 3D! + Producers had a rule: No more than 100 minutes... Book of Water, 420 minutes aprox on the TV Show, to 100 minutes) -- Hell, for Post-Production, and knowing how this film was going to suck, Shyamalan abandoned everything and just put an auto-mode to say "Yes, I love this movie" (For 2019, he confirmed that the movie stinks). And the creators didn't like it either, but they couldn't do anything. So, maybe some things are clearly Shyamalan's fault, but blame him at 100% isn't fair.

You know who I feel the most sorry for in this movie? Noah Ringer, the kid who played not-Aang. Ultimately, nothing that was wrong with the movie was his fault, as he actually took the time to learn several martial arts katas, on top of the martial arts he already knew, for the requisite action scenes. And looking behind the scenes, it’s clear that Noah was legitimately trying to give a good performance. So even if he wasn’t good in this film, it wasn’t really his fault, as Shyamalan basically sucked the talent dry from the kid. Hell, I’ll even say the same for not-Iroh’s actor, as it was clear that he at least embodied the fuddy-duddy tea-loving uncle facade that Iroh typically keeps up for the sake of appearance. Him and Ringer seem to be the only two actors on set who actually gave an iota of a shit.

22:00 the most overblown reaction ever. Man BHD doesn't phone shit in that badly. Like I refuse to believe a grown ass man yelled fuck at the top of his lungs over a movie
@blueorange89737 жыл бұрын
Can I just say that this is easily the best reaction you guys have ever done. Your clear passion for the subject matter and constant pausing for discussion made this a much more fun viewing experience than most other reactions. I would really love if you could make similar reactions to this in the future.

Check out The Orange Insanity's version which is a bit more detailed and exposes more flaws than Doug's. After revealing a flaw that even I didn't notice, he said that it ruins the sequel BEFORE a sequel could be announced. The movie broke its own universe.

Hollywood, cease with the waste of budgeting on the bad movies. Please cease on trying to give Nate a heart attack. I love this channel. I may love it too much. So please, Hollywood, don't try to kill this channel. Don't kill Nate, but try to take his advice: Use your budgets wisely, and with good effects.

Haven't seen the new Spongebob movie (kinda grew out of the series), but the first was actually kind of solid. Which means that fucking Spongebob had a better theatrical film than The Last Airbender.
@foxymetroid5 жыл бұрын
Spongebob didn't try to cram an entire season into 90 minutes.

You know, if he actually watched the show and directed it well, instead of being idiotic and trying to cram one season into a movie, he could've made a movie about a different Avatar, like Kyoshi.
@fireball12497 жыл бұрын
thebeav That's actually a good idea.
@thebeavpercabethftw96047 жыл бұрын
I say Kyoshi because we already know all there is needed to know about Roku. We know a little bit about Kyoshi, but not much.
@sammydray59197 жыл бұрын
thebeav Percabeth Even the story of the very first Avatar would have sufficed. Seeing that storyline from Korra in a live action movie would have been PERFECT!!!

38:50 Come on guys, sure Shyamalan did poorly after Unbreakable but he's coming around recently. The Visit and Split are quite good.
@ZyroShadowPony7 жыл бұрын
Shipping Is Magic but his past can never be forgotten. Also he could go downhill again so dont have much hope
@Trojianmaru7 жыл бұрын
Sorry but those movies were terrible. They relied solely on shock value and treating mental health like sci fi. The visit only got a 6.4/10 and Split, while it had the great actor who played Xavier in it, made no freaking sense and only got 6.5/10. Split personality I can accept, but the speed at which he changed clothing and the fact that one of the personalities had superhuman abilities was just dumb. It was just more trash from a man who hasn't made a decent movie in 17-18 years, yet hollywood keeps giving him chance after chance. Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan is a talentless loser who got lucky once and never again.
@amalin36447 жыл бұрын
fuck off fanboy, your shyamalan sucks and i hope he never get's to make any more horrible Movies or stories to ruing
@seanwilliam28566 жыл бұрын
Honestly split is a good movie. And to be even more honest the reason why it succeded and it's because of the return to format approch of shamalan. And i can appriciate that he's going back to what he loves doing.

Another thing, in the tank scene, the 3 people in the back were standing still while the other 3 were flipping the tank. So 3 earth benders can flip a tank in the show, but it takes about 5 to make a wall in the movie. Just a thought
