I'd like to see them acknowledge striking as dangerous. As a matter of fact the guys that can stuff a jits guy pick them apart. So great jits and great standup make a great fighter in todays cage. No one art can get it done anymore. But jits is vital.

@xchargerOUx they are only referring against martial artists that people don't know any jiujitsu, MMA fighters utilize jiujitsu in their training all the time. it would be a horrible training flaw in MMA today to not train in striking, wrestling, or in jiujitsu, you need all three.
@thesashworth12 жыл бұрын
JDS seems to be doing OK testing his boxing in mma. As they say people are lost and drowning is the way I see these guys if they entered the octagon. They would end up KO'd or at least TKO'd and I suspect it would be by a punch what are they MW's how do you think they would match up against A Silva Dan Hendo (we saw what happened to Renzo against Hendo KO'd by a punch) or even M Bisping.

@methodtraining he's not saying you WILL rock someone, he's saying its possible. I use the same analogy to explain to people why I think grappling is the safest way to fight someone. I've got a shitload more boxing experience than a normal person, but I'm not good enough that I know I won't get caught by them just swinging their fist hard as shit. BJJ is different. Once you take someone down they're not going to know what to do, it's not as natural or intuitive as throwing a punch.
@kanguesso13 жыл бұрын
@IamVeryFrozen The same could be said about Ryron's "Boxing", assuming he had never taken a single boxing class. Throwing him in the ring against a trained Boxer is like throwing a baby into a pool no matter how wildly Ryron tries to swing at his opponent, he'd easily go down for the count. That's simply my point, it is that it could be said about both arts.

@xchargerOUx their goal is to get people to incorporate jiujitsu into their training, as they have stated in past interviews. they are looking to enlighten those people who have not used jiujitsu in their martial arts. they already see the guys in the UFC as a victory for them. they know they couldn't handle guys like GSP or Overeem, they are looking to improve martial arts, not boost their egos.

What an unbelievable crock of shit here. I love BJJ as much as anyone as i am a purple belt & have been practicing for 6 years now. However, the Gracies are really delusional with their mentality, no wonder none of them are doing well in today's MMA. Rener says you walk into a boxing Gym without knowing a single thing about Boxing and you can rock someone by just "swinging for the fences"? Yeah sure, get in the ring with a trained Boxer with that philosophy and see how that works out for ya!

@lightningmunk - Yes, and against any martial artist no matter what style that actually incorporates jiu jitsu or wrestling into their cross training, would make this logic of theirs turn against them. They are no different from strikers at being one dimensional.
@Gallagur-xz6fr12 жыл бұрын
They're not talking about professional/world champion MMA fighters being "lost" on the ground. MMA fighters TRAIN in BJJ. They are talking about traditional martial artists, or your typical street thugs, that are clueless to BJJ/ground fighting. You can't teach someone to be JDS or Dan Henderson. But virtually ANYONE can learn BJJ.
@kanguesso13 жыл бұрын
@IamVeryFrozen I didn't change my words, i just simply used Tyson in comparison to a top BJJ practitioner like the Gracies. Believe me, if you have never even trained a single day in boxing, and you go into the ring with a trained boxer, no matter how wildly you swing at him, there would be NOTHING COMFORTABLE about your experience. He'd simply toy with you until he decides to dispose of you much like how Anderson Silva does to opponent who aren't on his striking level.
@methodtraining12 жыл бұрын
@hellomynameisboblong I think BJJ is a dangerous art. I do agree it is not as intuitive to be on the ground. I simply stating that Boxing when done right is called the Sweet Science for a reason. And to fight someone who has been schooled in this is a very painful lesson. Truth is in order to be successful we know we need Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling (Greco and Free) Its all good.

I love the Gracie brothers, they are sharks swimming in the ocean. I train Muay Thai because I'm lion I train Jiu Jitsu because I'm a lion that wanted to learn how to swim. I'm a lion that will drag the shark up on the beach and back into the jungle. No disrespect to the Gracie bros as they are the sharks that taught this lion how to swim. Because of what the Gracie family started I'm becoming a better swimmer. Lol

@LukeRock1000 My point is, there is no such thing as "most effective", "superior" or "Best" Martial art. Every single Martial art has its limitations. My problem with the "Gracie Mentality" is that they seem to think BJJ has no limitations and therefore it is the "superior" martial art. I saw a video documentary where Rorion Gracie said BJJ was the "most complete" martial art, that's an oxymoron to me. How can BJJ be the most complete Martial art when it mostly focuses on ground techniques?
@methodtraining12 жыл бұрын
Nothing but respect for the Gracies and Jiu Jitsu. HOWEVER...Rener has never been to a REAL fighters (boxing) gym for him to say something so foolish. "Just swing for the fences and you will rock someone." Try that with a real Boxer. Freddie Roaches Wild Card boxing. Kenny Weldons World Class Boxing. Be sure your medical is all paid up. You are going to need it.

@IamVeryFrozen First of all, THAT IS BULLSHIT. I am a BJJ practitioner and have been for 6 years. I am a purple belt under Renzo Gracie in NY. I love BJJ as much as anyone so i am not some BJJ hater. BJJ fighting abilities does not depend "100% on technique". That is an exaggeration on your part. BJJ is still evolving as we speak. The top BJJ competitors spend countless hours on strength & conditioning programs because they know it makes a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE when you're Technical, Strong & Fit.

@IamVeryFrozen Like i said, get someone with absolutely no boxing skills whatsoever in the ring with a prime time Tyson and see how well that person defends himself. It is no different than someone who has absolutely no idea about BJJ and gets on the mat with a high level BJJ practitioner. It's the same thing here. The point is that the Gracies think BJJ is the "end all and be all" of Martial arts.
@jitsroller11 жыл бұрын
I would agree you can't go to a boxing gym and hope to knock anybody out swinging for the fences. Not against a good boxer that's a poor example. The boxer uses timing technique strategy, not a good example at all. I'm working on my purple and love juijitsu but lets imagine rener in the ring with a pro boxer rener can only box, he would get beat more times than not. No rules Rener wins. Much respect to the Gracies.

But if you can stuff the takedown the jits guy better have some stand up.
@jitsroller11 жыл бұрын
If you have ever watched amateurs fight they do not know how to correctly through a punch. I have boxing experience but not a pro, with someone as he describes you use timing make them miss then they are off balance hands down, a short hook to the jaw is usually the prescription. I'm working on my purple love jits but I don't like that statement.

@lightningmunk - And by keeping it real, they know they couldn't handle anybody in the UFC.

Let me get this straight. Lion goes from jungle to beach (by bus I`m assuming), jumps into the ocean, looks for shark, finds shark, manages to get shark out of ocean and onto the beach, then back into the jungle. Impossible. None of this would happen because you would get run over crossing the street on your way to the beach. Lions aren't good at crossing streets. Tough luck pal. Sharks win.

Your comment indicates you are about 12-14 year old with no real experience. The last thing you should be doing in a street fight is go to the ground, the reason is that it is concrete. By doing something as basic and simple as pulling guard with the weight of your opponent plus your own body weight dropping 2 feet plus on to the base of your spine on concrete will more than likely render you crippled for life.

a guy right off a the street probably has a piss poor chance of rocking a boxer and an even more piss poor chance of submitting a bjj guy. However if a big ass dude off the street were to go against a much smaller boxer he might have a chance. If the same big ass dude were to go against much smaller bjj blue belt he would still have almost no chance of winning.

@IamVeryFrozen Look, lets just agree to disagree. I have a problem with the "Gracie Mentality" and arrogance about the sport. I don't have a problem with BJJ or its effectiveness because i love the sport myself. You on the other hand drink too much of that Gracie Kool Aid, no pun intended, you hold them to a certain pedestal that you swallow everything they say. I again, i see no point in continuing any further because neither one of us will convince the other!

HAHAHAHAHA "A guy with no Boxing skills can show up at a Boxing gym and rock someone if he just swings for the fences, you know what i am saying?" That's an incredibly ignorant statement to make. That just shows the arrogance and false bravado exhibited here by the Gracie spoon fed "Royalty" who thinks BJJ is the end all and be all of Martial Arts. Go ahead Rener Gracie, show at a Boxing gym get in the ring with a trained seasoned boxer and employ that tactic. BJJ purple belt speaking here.
