Emma, if you are replacing all the siding, its much easier to remove it if you start from the top and work your way down, then it wont fight you so hard. Just reverse the way it was installed. Glad to see you taking a little break from cleaning the BIG job, that way you don't get burnt out doing the same task every day, variety is the spice of life :-D

Small suggestion when you said you had a problem and you ran out of nails, keep a couple of the sleeve things of nails in your tool belt this way if you’re stuck on the ladder and you run out, you don’t have to worry about having the peace taking the peace down

The last piece is pretty janky but good job. Set your saw for depth so it just cuts through the OSB and instead of hanging the cutoff piece out in midair, slide a 1x4 under the top sheet and let the other sheets hold it as you finish your cut. You're doing fine. Oh yea, rough side out, label side in. Best regards from Indiana.

I love it. A guy would have looked at getting those larger pieces up by building s system with ladders, pulleys, rope and braces and taken an hour setting it up. Emma, I think I'll just cut these into manageable pieces . Perfect.

Scaffolding would probably be safer than the tall ladder and considering how much work on multiple buildings you are doing would be a good investment that you can sell when you no longer need it.

Just a small tip when pulling nails is to place the hammer head under the pry bar to add leverage. Loving the videos your doing great.
@trapspamalot9 сағат бұрын
Are you not going to frame it with studs on 16” centers ? Or, are you going to do that from the inside ? Be careful of the kickback on that circular saw… you have to be the boss of it, don’t let it be the boss of you 😊 when removing the boards, It will be much easier if you hit them near where they are nailed. When they bounce, that is just wasted energy. Also, pulling the nail is a lot easier than pulling the boards. You are lucky in that it is so old that it is coming apart fairly easily. 👍
@emmashaye8 сағат бұрын
I wasn't planning on adding studs except for in areas where I add windows. But now I need to consult pops :)
@paulsander54337 сағат бұрын
@@emmashaye 16" studs are part of the uniform building code. Depending on where you want to take these structures, you might have to plan for that.
@krystalwolfe80903 сағат бұрын
@@emmashaye that’s hard frame . I would put studs inside as you need them. Personally for me it would be cheaper. Adding more studs to hard wood is just adding unnecessary work.

Never discount the old books. I have a book from 1838 for millwrights, shipwrights and machinist. I referred to it a dozen times to learn to fix things that I didn’t know how to fix. One of those things was repairing the second floor support beams in 150 year-old factory the company I worked for bought. The beams were 14”x18“ that had been severely damaged from years of a leaky roof. If it wasn’t for the shipwright section of that book. I never would’ve been able to fix them properly. The building currently houses Pollock auto restoration in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, but it used to be the Acme sewing needle factory. Every repair I did had to be able to support cars that weighed 12 to 14,000 pounds from the brass era. I had that book for 15 years before I used it the first time. Yes I’m old but I love my books. I admire what you’re doing because you bit off alot but I think you can do it.

Why brush off the bottom seal when there will be alot more stuff just falling back down onto it when you continue to pull down the siding? You are just causing yourself extra work.
@emmashaye7 сағат бұрын
because once the OCB goes on, that area is a lot harder to reach, and some of it impossible to reach. better to do it right and get it all out at the beginning, and then clean up anything else later
@darylmorse73376 сағат бұрын
@emmashaye I was originally thinking that when you were going to continue tearing off the upper boards, that more pieces of wood etc would just fall back down there again. But it kinda looks like it will just fall to the outside. You did make alot of progress. : )
