After getting a few expensive quotes for tree work I decided to rent a man lift and do the work myself. The rental fee is $300 a day, but The rental place is closed Sunday so if you rent the machine on Saturday morning you get it until Monday morning for the same $300 price. I suggest if you are going to tackle a project like this make sure to have someone on the ground to give a hand. My son Walter helped me out with this project. We had great weather and it was a good time working together. Thanks for watching, Jon If you want to build the furniture for your home check out all my project plans here. jonpeters.com/

Renting a machine like this is a no brainer... man I wish you had posting this before I spent $500 on a 30' extension ladder that I am terrified to use!

Yikes! Tree work and a tall ladder is a dangerous combo. I know because I've done some pretty silly stuff myself. Just curious, how'd it go? Hope you're still with us!

Holy cow you’re about to save me a lot of money. I have a bunch of projects that needed a really long ladder and now I won’t need to go up and down a million times. Faster and cheaper.

NOW you tell me. lol 80 ft tall hackberry tree with a trunk around 8 ft in diameter. Already had some work done to it a couple years ago to remove some high branches that were threatening the shop. $500 from a large, well known company. After a recent storm a few months ago, the trunk was split completely in two along the length ... to the point I could actually see through it! Same company wanted $2k to remove the heavy side that was again threatening the shop. Found a young kid who recently started a tree service who did the job for $900. Still a lot of money but also ton of work ... basically removed half of the tree. I never even considered renting the lift and trying to tackle it myself! Good to know for future reference! Of course, I'd need to buy a chainsaw too. lol

A "trick" with these is to use the outriggers to lift it off the ball on your truck to save some time with the manual crank and there's also no chance it can roll on the wheels. I just rented the identical lift a couple months ago. Great video, Jon!

Pretty impressive machine indeed, Jon! Fantastic work! 😃 Talking about DIY, my mother wanted to cut some small trees in our backyard some time ago... Then she found my ryoba and she and my father cut everything in half hour! 😂 Now I need to buy a second one, exclusively for them... 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Good video. I need to stain the side of my barn, at least 35 feet. Thinking the would do the trick. It's a plus that it works without a loud engine running. Good tip on the Sat-Mon rental.

That was a Leyland Cypress next to the Peeling Birch. Their branches can take a pretty good beating & the tree will come back. Vey well done Bud. That EGO Battery Saw crushed it. Hoping all is well Jon, Dirty Jersey out!!

If you put down the outriggers before you disconnect from the truck, it won't move, and it will make it easier to disconnect.
@dgoins6

Questions. 1. What size truck will tow something like this? 2. How many times did you need to move the lift around each tree? I can get one delivered, but not sure if my 1/4 ton B3000 can move and reposition it.
@JonPetersArtHome

A small car or truck should work depending on the land and you don’t want to move it around if the ground is really wet… I have two acres and needed to move it quite a bit.

I wonder if renting a wood chipper would have saved you any time or money by allowing you to take fewer trips to the dump.
@GM_____
@GM_____ 2 жыл бұрын
That’s what I would do to keep the wood chips for building up my garden soil. It costs a fortune to buy bagged mulch and depending on the species of tree they can make good firewood too 🪵🔥
