It could soon be legal for some teachers in Tennessee to carry a concealed handgun inside their public school classrooms. This comes after House Republicans passed a bill that would allow teachers who are approved to carry firearms on campus.
The ruling was passed despite strong opposition from parents, educators, and Democrats, who argue arming teachers would not deter school shootings and could instead result in additional violence.
The bill is now set to go to Republican Governor Bill Lee for his signature. Tennessee State Representative Justin J. Pearson joins Scripps News to weigh in on the state's controversial bill.
