The good thing about painting with oil is that it's easier to add or remove things. When you're working with markers or colour pencils you can't modify a "finished" piece that much. If you don't like the shoulder, you can't just draw over it.

Fun tip! Using a variety of different skin tones can really help make something like this even more dynamic, also flat pictures with flat lighting can also not be as dynamic as using a more contrast heavy lighting situation!

Photo realism Tip: avoid using black to create shadows. Use complimentary colors or burnt umber. Even when you see chiaroscuro in paintings, the darkest areas are never truly black. - invest on a 50/50 gray toned palette. It’s going to make skin tones so much easier to mix - for skin, don’t blend until you are near done especially for alla prima. And don’t just blend very different tones together with scrubbing. Mix the tones and make integral gradation. - highlights are done LAST. The innitial tones should be deep and dull. It’s easier to brighten and saturate skin tones than to add shadows later because of the transparency of darker pigments like burnt umber, ultramarine, viridian, burnt sienna, (all blues are not opaque) while putting saturated hues is easy with cadmiums and qinacridones, etc.
