I have a spider that has separated from the cone on my JL Audio 10W3V3 subwoofer. It is actually quite easy to repair, and super cheap!

I blew one of my 10w3v3-4’s a couple of days ago. Found your vid and got the epoxy from Home Depot for $7. Followed your instructions and gave it an hour before I tested the sub. THEY ARE BACK TO LIFE!!! You saved me $190. I added an accubass a couple of weeks back and I must’ve had the settings a bit too high. Distortion….. Thank you so much for this vid. You are the best!!!!!

Cool thanks for the info. Had one given to me under the impression it was blown. Was only going to use for mock up. Still had 4 ohms so looked closer and same problem 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

just had this happen to me today with this exact sub. it was 10 years old, guess i gave it too much sauce. also glue breaks down over the years so who knows

Same sub 10-11 years. Guess that's the avg life span of the glue they use... I'm going to put some "Mighty Seal" (with a very small paint brush) over the dried glue/epoxy for additional support, and seal, plus a bit of flexibility as well that I can imagine would hurt...

Also that subwoofer wasn’t blown the cone separated from the spider, if it was blown you’d know it cause majority of the time the subwoofer doesn’t put out any sound due to the voice coil being fried.

It sounded blown, and I was going to send it to JL for repair, then noticed the spider had separated, so I tried this. It’s been fine since then!

The wires ate terminal leads and the yellow part. Is called the spider

Good vid bro my alpine bassline 12" did the same thing it looks like someone in the past used some type of glue/epoxy already how should I remove it w/o making a mess??

Yes it does and that's because my wire disconnected and sent too much power to one speaker

Does anyone know if a 12 inch kicker blows if it looks like Tint and he took a knife and sliced it right where the material meets the metal ring that goes around the entire speaker? A car audio installation shop just showed me one of my kickers and it had a perfect slice on the edge of the middle ring and they told me that that’s how it blew out. I called bullshit on that it looked like it was slashed with a knife. Any opinion here is greatly appreciated because I feel like I’m being scammed. Thank you for reading and then hopefully giving me some input. Thank you.

Well done :) I have a similar problem but the cone has losen from the yellow spider a little... It's a " new" sub but they do not make them anymore. I played too hard. Any recommendation what glue to use?! Many thx

I used 5 minute epoxy

@@CliffsHowTo Ok epoxy on the yellow spider, shouldn't that be soft and flexible than becoming stiff!? Just wonder...thx for the reply
@CliffsHowTo7 ай бұрын
@@crazyzeus83 I mean, if it’s on an inner or outer edge, you could try it. If it’s on a surface that flexes, then that won’t work, you’re right. Maybe get the spider replaced? There are places that do speaker repair. I’m sure that’s cheaper than a new speaker. Either that, or contact JL Audio and see if they’ll repair it. They’ll charge for it, but again, it’s cheaper than a new speaker.

Thanks for the vid, just happened to mine. My sub is mounted backwards in a box and it's difficult to access the front of the speaker. Do you think of I flue it without Appling pressure to the front like you did it will hold?
@CliffsHowTo Жыл бұрын
I think you’d need to hold it as the glue sets, or it won’t get a good bond.

Epoxy was the better choice I don’t think super glue would last very long.

I did use epoxy.

Can a blown sub still produce deep bass and shake the room and overall sound good? Or will it just sound awful and be unable to produce those deep frequencies
@CliffsHowTo Жыл бұрын
It will sound like garbage if blown.
@robertcaravan26636 ай бұрын
It does still produce the bass, but you will be able to hear that blown noise from a mile away
@nickskaterguy Жыл бұрын
Mine did this for one day and than totally stopped making noise at all... Would this still be the solution for me?

I would say the voice coil probably went, if it’s not doing anything…

Is there a reason you went with gorilla glue epoxy over other brand ?

Good video.. But I couldn't help but notice the random shot gun shells and bullets by the speaker.. Lmao.. If speaker blows again, do you have another video where you shoot the sub in the backyard? Lmao

That’s the collection of random rounds I found in/under the seats and carpet of the Jeep I purchased about a year ago!

This speaker has been in the central florida heat, in the trunk of a black car, for YEARS! I’m surprised it’s lasted as long as it has, under those conditions. I bought it used probably over 10 years ago. And this is the only issue I’ve ever had with JL speakers. I have JL 10W3s in all my cars. I’m a happy customer!
@CliffsHowTo9 ай бұрын
And it’s been 2 years since this repair, and it’s still pumping out bass!!
