Don! You rock man! I took my MS180 apart today and rebuilt it thanks to you! My brother in law broke it about 2 years ago by putting straight gas in it and trying to run it with the chain brake on. I bought an MS170 as a replacement and kept the MS180 as a later project. Well..again thanks to you I gained the confidence to tear it apart and rebuilt it today. I am stoked. Thanks again...I'll pass the word around on FB for folks to subscribe to your channel!

Picked up a Stihl 023 from a garage sale for $10. Have been a bit scared myself of the inner workings of a chainsaw, but these rebuild videos are brilliant. Mine needed new piston and rings, and a reseal on the crankcase. Completely stripped if down, cleaned it, and it's great! Thanks for these great info sessions!

Donyboy, thanks for the videos. You saved me after I trashed my new 250 with no lubrication in the fuel mix. What a douche!. I was so pissed and after finding out they were not going to cover it on the warranty, I mobilized and found a repair kit for $ 60 on Ebay, and then found YOU with the awsome videos which breathed new life that otherwise was a total disaster. Thanks for the education.

Thanks for this great tutorial. It is very detailed, great for beginners such as myself who fear the inside of these saws. I usually take my chainsaw to be tuned and cleaned, but since seeing your video I was able to dive into the challenge and even went further with the winter clean before storage. It looks new again and runs like a top.

your video is a great repair video, I just finished my friend Sthil MS250 saw following your instructions, I am not a novice but the step by step instructions helped me turn a dead saw for 130 dollars in to a brand new running saw and saved my friend 200 bucks from buying a new one. Great tutorial, next will be my Husqvarna 51 saw I have had for 17 years.

Stihl says to rotate the sprocket one full Revolution to ensure the worm gear arm drops into the notch in the sprocket, otherwise you will not be able to get the sprocket washer and E clip on the end of the crankshaft. I always put a little white lithium into the slot for the E clip to make its installation a little easier and future removal a lot easier. I also did not notice you putting some white lithium grease on the worm gear and sprocket bearing, but I could have missed it.

Ok. Re-checked the gap and adjusted it. Checked all the wires to make sure they were connected properly. I get a little stronger pulse but nowhere near making me want to let go of it. I even tried a new spark plug. The wiring seems to be correct - I get no pulse with the switch in the OFF position. Don't know what else to do except replace the coil. The saw was really dirty inside - like the operator cut too far and the chain went into the dirt. They might not have been careful using it.

when the iler goes in u have to line up the hole in it to the hole inside, sometimes the oil line in the tank kinks and it stops the oil from flowing, u could try that first

If the sprocket E clip does not snap into position when you install it - replace it. Otherwise it may come off when you are cutting and you will loose it and the sprocket washer. I also with a little white lithium grease on the slot on the end of the crank to help in removing the E clip inthe future.

Donyboy thanks for the videos , they were very helpful to me. I did a rebuild on an ms 250 that was given to me. the saw runs great. although i do have a problem with the oiler. oil seems to be bubbling out of the tank vent , the hole just below the muffler, very little oil coming out of the oil galley for bar. i removed the oiler and cleaned it. still not working properly. could the oiler be in backward. or just worn out any thoughts would be much appreciated. thanks again

I have the same saw. Took it apart, cleaned it and reassembled it. It has gas, seems to have compression and it has spark but it won't start. I have a hunch the coil is weak. I unscrewed the plug and grounded it to me, so to speak, while I pulled the cord. I felt a little pulse of electricity but not enough to make me want to let go of the plug. Should it be strong enough for me to get a really good jolt?

Excellent job i'm glad you showed that little notch in the clutch I was checking a saw out and when i went ti put it back on , it kept shutting off. As if the load was too much I took it back apart and noticed that oiler was not in the notch and it was binding the clutch a little. Dony tell me I've not had much trouble over the years adjusting the high and low needle, but please let me know after you have adjusted them how do you adjust your idle screw?
@harryohschmidt12478 жыл бұрын
+foreverwood1963 When you have your high and low speed set at what you feel is fine... turn in your idle screw until chain rotates quickly.... then back off till it doesn't rotate. Saw should idle steady and no chain rotation.

hi Donny boy i have the exact same saw , i rebuilt it several years ago with the aid of your videos , thanks ! but now its developed a new problem that i cant figure out. it starts right up and runs great for about eight seconds then dies like the kill switch is on , i checked to make sure its not the coil. has good spark .could it be the impulse line or the fuel tank vent.what else is there to check

Unbelievable series. Nice job. My gas hole is chipped, and the cap won't stay on. It leaks all over the place, and the saw is unusable because of it. Have any clever ideas? Or will I have to do a complete take down and replace the plastic engine block ?

unfortunately you'll have to replace the tank

Any chance you have a video that shows how to clean out the oil pump? I have a 250 and this season it is not oiling nearly enough. I took off the bar, and cleaned everything, emptied out the oil case, replaced it, still not enough oil coming out. I think there might be some junk down in the pump, don't know how to get at it. Thanks.

have you had many problems with the plastic wearing out or braking where the bar studs go on stihl and husky products?
@MrGillespieable8 жыл бұрын
dony...your channel is the bomb! ever any problems with the bar oilers on the stihl 250 / 251? they really are skimpy with the amount of oil they put out. Im trying to thin the oil but not a hudge difference. wish they would put out more bar oil. bar gets pretty hot sometimes. love your channel! thank you for being a great filmmaker.
@harryohschmidt12478 жыл бұрын
+Steven Gillespie Use bar oil from Stihl dealer. Get a "pick set" from Princess Auto to clean grooves and oil holes in bar. Clean sawdust away from lube holes with brushes and picks when cover is off. Also see if your bar has the lube hole for the sprocket gear for chain. If so Stihl sells grease in a blue tube for this. Any questions go to a Stihl dealer with saw. Also oil screw on bottom of chainsaw does not move much.. so try full open...Manual says oil should fly off bar when you hold to a stump for example. Got a Manual for saw? If not download one PDF. Few more tips... Put a dab of grease on the bearing when you sharpen chain. The clutch bearing. Always flip bar after sharping chain. Do not have chain to tight. If you use your saw a real lot... as a woodcutter.. run with high test gas. Saw will run cooler! My stihl is a Farm Boss 290.

If the sprocket E clip does not snap into position when you install it - replace it. Otherwise it may come off when you are cutting and you will loose it and the sprocket washer. I also with a little white lithium grease on the slot on the end of the crank to help in removing the E clip inthe future.
