Thank you Stacy, this was a very helpful video. You learn something new everyday. Shame on those people who went out and just wanted to replace the shutters.

Thanks for making this video. I have the same kind of shutters and was told I would have to buy new ones for over $300 for a small kitchen window. So, I ordered the parts for $10 and fixed them myself. I would have never found the parts without your video. Thanks again!

The blow dryer is a brilliant help! We had many broken tilt bars just like in the video. I was going to order online and spend more than $100, but called Hunter Douglas first. I'm so glad I did! I was able to get the replacement parts (plastic pieces for inside the tilt bar) from Hunter Douglas customer service FREE of charge and mailed to me within 3 days! This review is June 2020 and they had them available. Ask to see the replacement parts list, with pics. The rep emailed it to me and I found the part/size I needed, emailed back, and received in the mail in a couple of days!

Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I've been trying to figure out the parts I needed to repair my shutters for months now, and you are right, there is nothing else out there for this particular model of vinyl shutter. This showed me exactly what I needed to know!

Thanks for posting this video! It totally helped to know to place the slider bar into the louvers before sliding them into the tilt bar - had tried to do it the other way and didn't come out right, which is what prompted my search for video help. Should have done that first! :) I didn't need the hair dryer, though (maybe because it is a warm day) and was able to put the long bit of the T into the slot in the louver first and with my finger just carefully bent the short bit of the T in and with a little pressure they went in easily and faster than having to heat them.

Thank you for this. Very helpful. How do you slide the bar off the blinds. Only a few of my blades are broken and not the whole bar?

Some lift bars do not have a channel to guide its placement into position. Instead, my lift bar has holes for the small pin (bought from Shutter Direct as indicated in the video). The old pins must be drilled out first (make sure you use a very small drill bit so as not to enlarge the hole) and then the pins slide in. I have not done the full installation but I suspect warming the pin first, placing the pin (per the video) in the louvre and finally setting the pin into the lift bar will probably be the preferred sequence of installation. Hope this helps.

Great idea and information. I had a company come out and replace these tilt rod pieces in the past on my west facing window that gets lots of heat and breaks these things down. Also, I’ve put tinting on the window to reduce some of the UV rays on them.

You can get these parts from the shutter manufacturer Skandiawf.com. They will need to know if you have 2 1/2, 3 1/2, or 4 1/2" louvers. We fix these all the time without heat.

I cut mine of with a hacksaw. And then super glue back on. Looks like new if you make a good clean cut.

Fill a cup with boiling water and put the bottom of the rod in for about 20 seconds. This makes it very easy to come off.
@ernestojuarez92964 жыл бұрын
Sorry i dont understand your trying to force them in through the slot vertically on the shutter by melting them with a blower? Doesnt make sense. Did you try inserting them horizontally into the slot first and then twisting them vertically? Unless im missing something I think you are over complicating the installation process. That’s why if you notice the clips have a hole in them to aid in the twisting process as the plastic gives a bit in this area as you twist them back vertically.

Actually she has the best explanation and solution for repairs I have seen to date. It's a struggle to find the parts online unless you look specifically for Hunter Douglas Hunter Douglas Tilt Rod Repair parts. Other than that yes companies will try to charge you hundreds rather than a few bucks and short endeavor. Heating up the plastic just slightly actually is a great idea as the integrity of the plastic is actually better than when bent cold. Instructions from the MFG on these are to put the long side in first, then to force the other side in but heating them is just brilliant and works way better. It was done the right way by Stacey.
