I wanted to comment and tell you thank you for showing us how to take apart the valve cartridge and replace the seals instead of replacing the entire cartridge because not all of them are available at the home improvement stores and this save me so much time and money not having to call a plumber or wait on a new part to come in the mail I didn’t even know the cartridges came apart till I seen you video. This made you clip much better then the others I watched thank you very much

I had a delta shower faucet leaking and was able to fix it by watching this video. The cartridge cost 75 $ but at Canadian Tire the springs were about 5$. It put in 2 springs and faucet stopped leaking. Thanks a lot for this video. It was very helpful.

Great instructions! I fixed my dripping shower head in under an hour. A 4.99 pack of new springs and washers did the trick. Without finding a how to guide I probably would have replaced the whole internal unit.

You are awesome! Your short video covered so much little details about quick fixes with seal and springs and about lifetime warranty. I watched the video from Delta company and they don't even tell you those stuff. I guess they don't want you to know so they don't have to send you a free replacement parts when they could sell it to you. Thanks again!

Hello Tan, You're welcome! I believe they tell it to you when you make the purchase, but if you give them a call they should be able to help you out. I know many hardware stores sell them, but some will give them to you if you ask about warranty. Delta is a good manufacturer. They have been around for decades. Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al

Thank you for your info & help! It saved m a lot of money & being on a fixed income, it was a blessing. All I suggest is for women or older ppl to use "Blaster PB" & to shut the water off before you start. It was great that you showed how to replace the spring in the cartridge. I had some Delta parts & it did the trick! I'm so happy not to see my faucet dripping! I'm sure it took me longer than most but I'm happy I did it myself! Thank you so very much!

Hello Thesoundofamerica; If there are no valves on the faucet and on most bath and shower faucets there isn't; You have to turn the main water off to the house. This will shut-off both the hot and the cold and you will be able to work on the faucet with no worries of water. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al

Nice. This video shows a squeaky clean shiny new valve interior and all new parts. Usually you will be trying to pull a valve that's been in place for 20 years. The allen screw will be buried under a layer of water deposits, the big nut will be frozen in place by mineral deposits, and the inside of the brass valve body will be full of corrosion that prevents a good seal with the new cartridge. in the real world, be prepared to use a lot of corrosion buster chemicals and acidic cleaners like CLR to get the thing apart. I usually end up using a slide hammer to pull the cartridge out, and I use large and small flexible polishing balls to polish the inside of the valve body before inserting the cartridge. Also note that aftermarket cartridges not made by Delta will often cause water hammer. Hey the job can be done, but usually not as easily as shown here.

+Gary Keene As you probably are aware of, everything depends on water quality. I have had difficulty with some faucets while others came apart as if they were new. I just went through this nightmare. The water at the job site is loaded with minerals, looks kinda like clam chowder. The shower head had been dripping on the faucet for 20+ years. Long story short, the faucet body twisted apart. Had to replace the whole thing. Took the valve body back to the shop. Had to put it in a vice and use a pipe wrench to get it apart. The cartridge came out in pieces. Not doing one of these again.

If your brass collar is hard to loosen, spray some WD-40 on the threads & let sit for 10 minutes. If the cartridge is stuck in the valve body, use a small paintbrush & CLR (calcium, lime, rust remover product) to "paint" the inside of the valve body. My cartridge was so stuck in the body that it broke in half when I tried to pull it out.

@LittleRedHen123 Hello; Usually there is a shut-off in your house or apartment that will turn the water off to the dwelling. If not you will have to go the street, but I would say there is one somewhere inside the building that will turn the water off to the entire place. Most shower and bath faucets do not have seperate shut-offs for them; so I usually have to turn the water off to the building. Best of luck and thanks for commenting!!! Al

Hello there; It usually is just a matter of pushing it directly into the faucet body. Sometimes it take a bit of force. If the o-rings are lubricated it should go in for you. Take a flashlight and make sure the inside of the faucet is clear of anything; perhaps a piece of o-ring from the old cartridge. Try forcing it in as best you can. It may require some bigger muscle to help you out, but normally it does not. You will probably save a few hundred dollars by diy. Best of luck! Al

hello Dom; That can be the most difficult part of the job at times. I will sometimes use a torque head bit if I have stripped the inside of the screw. I will also add penetrating oil to the screw and let it sit for a few hours. Makes all the difference in the world. Before you hit the sack, turn your water off and turn your handle up to 12 oclock position and let the oil sit in there like that. Will help a lot. Hello Mssub; If you take a straight ( flat ) screw driver and work it on either side of the cartridge you should be able to pry it out being careful not to damage the body of the valve. Sometimes a bit of pulling with a pair of pliers works as well. It should work for you. Try the screwdriver first. Let me know how you got along! Best of luck! Al

Hello Steven; Getting the screw out can be a task. If you turn the water off to the house and turn the handle so that the screw is at 12:00 o"clock you can place a drop of penetrating oil there. Let it set for sometime. This will make it much easier. Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the repair! Al

@ultimouomo11 Hello there; You must be talking about the set screw in the handle. The screw is stainless steel. It is very hard to drill / not to say it can't be.If you have not stripped the screw with the allen wrench; take some penetrating oil or nut and bolt loosener and give the screw a spray. If I was going to do it;I would shut the water off in the night before bedtime and turn the handle so that the screw is straight up and let it soak overnight. The screw should come out in the morning.

Hello Mushki12345; Going out on a limb here! It could be possible that the new cartridge you bought is defective. It doesn't happen that often, but it does happen. It is also possible that you could have picked up a piece of dirt that would cause the faucet to leak as well! These are about the only 2 things that would cause the faucet to leak! You could possibly remove it and check for some sediment in the cartridge itself! Thanks for commenting and I hope your repair goes well! Al

@Thejaxful Hello; That brass ring is usually the biggest task in repairing this faucet. I would try some CLR or some product like this and apply it several times before trying to remove it again. When removing the ring you must be careful that you do not turn it into an egg shape. Take a wrench and apply pressure around the ring. You may have to try the wrench in perhaps 8 to 10 positons applying pressure each time and hopefully the ring will move for you. Tks 4 commenting and G.L. Al

@Rombizio Hello Rom; If water is coming out of your spout; it is the cartridge that is causing it, if your faucet is shut off. The reason it does not come out of your shower head is your divertor does not have any pressure on it to keep it in place to force the water to your shower head. Repairing or replacing the cartridge will stop the dripping at your spout. Thanks for commenting and good luck with your repair!!! Al

Hello TEHZEEB75; Glad it worked out for you! The springs and washers are all you usually need to repair the leak. Many people do not want to tackle the leak from this angle; so they go with the new cartridge. I believe Delta cartridges are guaranteed for life as well. Worth a call to their number to see if one is covered anyway! Glad the video helped you out! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your weekend! Al

Hey Scott; very strange! Check the surface where the rubber washers make contact with the stainless steel surface just to make sure there is no mineral build up. Delta alos make s a few different size springs; so check to see if the new ones are the same size as the old ones you took out. keep me informed. Al

Hello karma tibet; The handle is held on with an allen screw on the backside of the handle. If you reach around the handle you will find a small hole where a stainless steel set screw is located. This is how the handle is removed. You will need a 1/8th allen wrench and turn the wrench counterclockwise. Once you have backed the set screw off the handle should come off. Occasionally it gives a little battle, but most times it comes off without a fight. Tks 4 commenting and enjoy your day! Al
