I had a Wagoneer that ate water pumps until someone pointed out that one of the washers was bigger than the other. I never thought such a little bit of weight would throw it off balance, but I replaced all 4 with identical ones and that was the last water pump I ever put on it. It is crazy how much energy you have at that point of rotation. I'm glad you got it back home, I'm really looking forward to seeing that thing done (and my truck would love to get a front bumper that rugged). Another great video, guys! 👍👍

Water pumps are a real pain! They made so many variations that getting the right one is a miracle! Add to the fact that the factories tend to use up old parts after they changed specifications. I had a 1968 impala with a 327 engine that had factory parts from 3 different year models!

I just removed and disassembled a Transfer Case on a Cub Cadet Volunteer EFI 20HP 2011 Model Year. And let me tell you, Cub Cadet doesnt even offer a Parts Diagram for the Serial Number Range on this machine. Which when i ordered parts, it uses parts off 3 different Models. And it was so frustrating to rebuild that TC simply because of the Hybrid Engineering lol.

Great video!! You're right about it possibly being a defective waterpump. When I was 16 back in the early 80's I had a 69 Camaro SS that was my daily driver that I built to race. I couldn't afford a 2nd vehicle. I had a waterpump that had started leaking a few days before I had a big streetrace that a guy was trailering his car in from out of town. The day before the race I changed the waterpump & did some other maintenance plus a few performance mods to hopefully get little more HP out of it. I cranked it & let it warm up. When it was warm I gave it a couple of throttle wacks when all of a sudden I hear this horrendous sound of something breaking & metal crashing into each other plus water spraying everywhere!! I killed it & got out to inspect the carnage. The front end of the waterpump broke & sent that part of the pump plus the fanblade through my radiator!😢😢 Needless to say, but I wasn't able make the race. I also ended up losing the block over this. A few days later we had a freak ice storm that lasted for a week which was very unusual for where I lived in E.Tx. From my stupidity & sub-zero temps I didn't make sure all of the water was drained from the block. I thought that there wasn't enough water left in the block to do any damage. I couldn't have been more wrong. Like I said from my stupidity plus my age,laziness how cold it was the block was cracked so bad there was no way to salvage it. A few months later I sold the car to the 2nd owner of the car because at the age of 16 I couldn't afford to replace the block & have all of the machine work done to the new block that I'd done on the original block. To this day I wish I'd never sold that car!! I thought no problem I'll just buy another one one day. Little did I know what my future had in store for me at the time. I've nearly died 6 times, got married, we had twin boys that were born extremely premature & weighed 1lb.11oz. & 1lb.10z. They are an absolute example of miracles & blessings. They have had their lists of health issues due to being born so premature. Unfortunately at the age of 26 the smaller of the twins passed away after a sudden illness on 11/2/22. I still hold out hope for one day replacing that Camaro mainly because of how much he & I love that peticular year & how much we talked about one day building another one. One thing I've learned is no matter how bad you think you have it there is always someone somewhere that has it worse than you so you need to count your blessings & focus on them & try not to focus on the negative things in your life. I'm sorry this comment was so long & all over the place, but Robby & crew I want to thank you for the awesome family friendly content you put out each week!! You have no idea how much you help with your positive content to someone who may be struggling at the time!! Again, thank you & keep up the amazing work!!

Hi Robby 👋. Water pump - I did a similar problem. I put a 460 into my 1978 f150 and I didn't want to buy a new fan clutch for it. ( Old one is off a 400m ). So I drilled out the center hole to fit the fan clutch to fit the water pump. Drove it 40 miles to exhaust shop. Next morning he started it and the fan went into the radiator. Those fan pieces I think must be perfect fit ☺️ Enjoying and laughing all the way 🎉😂

In the beginning of the video you reminded me why I hated owning Ford’s. Buying 2 of everything is just what you have to do if you don’t want to keep going back and forth between the parts store and where you happen to break down. Ford rarely used the same parts from one month to the next so it was always such a pain trying to get the right one.
@mrfunnylookinhayes9088 Жыл бұрын
Most of the time that's what you have to do with an GM vehicle.
@R.Sole88109 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you have to do similar with a suprising amount of different brands, yes, even the "bombproof" Toyota.
@Springfield-1903 Жыл бұрын
@@mrfunnylookinhayes9088 You’re funny. You can take a crankshaft out of just about any SBC and put it in just about any other SBC. GM is known to use the same parts for many years and in many different models even from cars to their trucks. The best thing ford has going for them is that they’re super safe (because they’re always broke down somewhere it’s hard to get into an accident with them).
@dustymojave Жыл бұрын
Like my friend's Chevy Malibu with "which V6 is it?" If you got the right oil filter, then you got the wrong air filter. If you got the right air filter, you got the wrong throttle body. If you got that right, you got the wrong starter. If you got that right, you got the wrong water pump. And I changed them ALL because they ALL failed. I came to the conclusion that's why Chevy parts are cheaper than for other brands. They need to be replaced more often. Worst 2 vehicles I've ever had to operate were a square body C30 tow truck that needed to be towed by the Ford tow truck quite often. And an S10 that had failures like master cylinder as I approached a red light at 55mph, and the trans input bearing that failed so it was difficult to get it into gear, the bedsides that were cracking a handwidth behind the cab, even though it had never carried a load, and the fold down back seat that still had the factory plastic on it and tore out of the inside of the cab when my 4 year old sat on it. All with less than 8500 miles when we parted company. Or then there was my customer's brand new last year squarebody 4x4 crew cab 454 that went into limp home mode every time it left the home neighborhood until it limped home into the Lemon Law. Or my aunt's new class A motorhome on a GM chassis with 454 that blew the new engine before it got from Burbank to Palm Springs. Should I keep going about Chevies?

1:06 ... I changed a U-Joint starting in the Parts Store Parking lot, and finished up in in the K-Mart parking lot once! (1974 Chev pickup at Rear Dif) .. I could still drive but was 2 hours from home and could not get over 10MPH :) ) I got the u-Joint just as the Parts Store closed, three bolts came out fine, but one broke off flush.! :( ... Not only that!! BUT the U-Joint did not fit (It was one with two different diameters) It didn't fit :( .... but luckily I was able to reuse two caps off the old one, and didn't lose any needle bearings! :) ! I put it all together with three bolts (you know, the kind with those Flat metal hoops), K-Mart was still open next door, I got a long 1/4" X 2 1/2" flathead bolt and nut (actually a pack of 5), two 1/4" drill bits, and the cheapest drill they had .... then I drove slowly looking for an outlet ... I parked on the store sidewalk by the outlet (I didn't buy an extension cord) .. drilled out the broken bolt and put the K-Mart bolt and nut in! .. Not only made it home? It lasted till I sold the truck 3 years later :)

When you get off the mountain with king fred you have to take off the water pump and do the gaskets behind the timing cover. You also should do the oil pan gasket wile your doing that because the oil pan gasket prices they sell to accommodate the missing pan gasket always leak.

This is a common theme with after market parts sadly. I deal with ford parts on my truck all the time and the new Motorcraft parts are awesome because a lot of components are the same throughout the years so you can get a updated cam profile for a 1998 F-150 and it works great. Tho with all after market parts a lot arent necessarily OEM approved, so they arent made exactly the right way, or they were made to fit multiple models thus have a different shape and more than the original part.
