Bought a 2012 from a young guy here it only had 3800 km's on her but was bogging down sputtering and cutting off when the engine heated up. He said he couldn't figure it out. Had the machine for 4 hours once i bought it and took the fuel pump apart I didn't even remove the lines off the top of the pump just removed the top with everything still attached just pulled it up out of its mount off the frame to get to the fuel filter. It was clogged bad thing sat for a few years in his shed before he sold it to me. Anyway with current world situation due to covid I couldn't get a replacement filter shipped to where I live anytime soon so i pulled the filter off ran an air compressor and blew out what i could actually shot the air down into the o ring on the filter directly into it then I actually threw the thing in a bowl with some blue dawn dish liquid and soaked it then using a soft old toothbrush i brushed it off and blew it out more with the air compressor again and let it dry out it worked perfectly filter is now like brand new and the bikes been running like a clock now for a whole month and a half. Got me out of a bind and I am able to enjoy the machine out on the trails. No more bogging sputtering and cutting off or stopping to let her cool down. Ive ran her for 4 to 5 hour long trips. I got a very good deal on the bike considering that was all that was wrong with it a real steal.

How do you remove the 2 bolts that hold the petcock in place?

08 rancher 420 replace fuel pump, now wont start, i do hear and feel the vibration of the pump for 3 or 4 seconds , but no fuel comes out of the lines, i bench tested the pump, it works fine only on the vehicle it does not even with the power on it, any ideas??

@@mjmcomputers thank u so much for replying, YES fuel from tank to pump is there, again i bench test the pump, works fine, but not on the vehicle, power is also there,comes on for abt 2,3 seconds...i dont think the relay bcs IT IS getting power...

I don't believe in 10 yrs I've ever left a negative comment on any video, but there's always a 1st , I guess. I could have really used some guidance on this issue but I couldn't see how you took off the selector switch in the 1st video. I couldn't see how you reinstalled it in this video. Most of the time elapsed waiting for you to think of how to talk are ideas you wanted to portray. I did find out where and what the fuel bowl which you say the pump is in but still don't know how to remove it. I know you didn't even do it but you spent a lot of time talking about it. I did see the switch valve and tube that was eroded away but have no clue what it connects to or how to reinstall it. Maybe you need to think out your video production , add narration when you know what you want to say w/out all the pauses and changes of thought. It would be nice to have access to the views of what you actually remove & replace. Or , it just isn't a productive use of time & effort. Sorry about the negativity. I do appreciate you sharing even though I hoped for a more complete picture. God bless and nothing meant personal.

What symptoms/problems did it have to prompt that specific repair? I heard you say you checked for fuel flow on the petcock line before removing the whole fuel pump but what was the initial problem(s) that made you start on it? I got a 07 Honda 420 FI that ran perfect one day and the next, out of nowhere immediately shuts off when given ANY throttle at all, but will start and idle like a sewing machine. I'm thinking clogged filter under fuel pump starving it of fuel or the IACV because I don't know exactly what it does but it is electrical and attached to the throttle body. Which to me seems like a reasonable assumption for it to have taken a shit and not permit flow of either the fuel or air and consequently, acceleration. Does anyone have any solutions???

Mine has started doing the same thing as yours. Starts and idles great for a while, but cuts off if given any throttle. Also cuts off after about 2 minutes if left idling. Did you ever figure out what was causing your problem? Thanks for any information that you may provide.

I have an 8mm socket on it and it free spins like there’s a nut inside the tank I need to grip onto but I see in your video the tank has threads for the bolts??? 🤨

It’s a bit molded into the tank if I recall correctly. Hopefully it didn’t strip out.

Yes it all drained when I removed the petcock.

When my rancher warms up it begins to jump, bog down or backfire and act like it’s running out of gas, I don’t think it’s a cooling problem because the fan works fine and no lights come on. Could it be a clogged petcock valve?

could be , or filter screen in tank. You can try removing the hose and checking fuel flow.

Man, it sure snds like that piston is slapping around in there... Maybe it's the audio, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear the skirt was broken.

thanks for the video! Stupidly...I took the hoses off the fuel pump a few months back and just now am replacing the same thing. Could you possibly tell me where the vent hose goes? I have the fuel tank to pump hose right...and the pump to injector right...no idea where the other hose goes from pump to???? Anybody help?

If I recall it goes up towards the top of the tank? But I could be totally wrong there.

Hi I have a trx 420, the bike dont start i check the fuel line and it have presure so i check the inyector and i can see that it have in one pin volt but in the second pin dont have signal somebody know have i need to check next ??? Help me

Were u worried about the parts of the old petcock (the long tube) still lying in the tank ?

About to take on this project on 250 recon. I can see some of the old petcock in the tank but didn’t want to miss a piece and cause a problem. Thanks for the video.

I think most pieces came out when I drained the tank. There’s a filter screen on the petcock so should cause an issues if any pieces are left.

Gonna have something to do with clogged or obstructed fuel lines/fuel filters/fuel injector, or stuck/dirty possibly malfunctioning Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). Check all that stuff first cause its easy and cheap. And obviously check spark plug and air filter etc. as well as make sure fuel is clean, new and 90 oct. or higher.

I got a gas leak above the gas valve it could be the fuel line
